Just saying we had 2 strikers last season and one of those played 18 games in 3 years

We had AA for half a season, Larin for half a season, Stewart and Archer. 2 might be enough but we were stronger last season up top. Larin is great but we are putting a lot of eggs in the Mubama basket right now.

Yeah if we had a young up and coming striker in the youth team then it would be more understandable but we let the likely candidate leave on loan in Oyekunle. Larin and Mubama leaves us thin on the ground up top. This is a key promotion season. Same as GK position... thin.

Is the u21 player who scored 2 goals against everton u21 not a striker. Princewil U.......

Long looked woeful when I saw him. No where near good enough. Maybe a run in the side would increase his confidence, but I really don't want to find out.

We scored five on Saturday, where did they all come from?

Yep, 6'4. Played and scored in a preseason game I think. Probably locked in for that 3rd spot for an emergency, but lets hope it doesn't get to that.

guys on the last day of the window here are some class comments on last season's windows 😉

There is a reason we have a guy paid to make these calls.

Larin

  • “Absolute shite… older, slower version of Downs.” -Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd
  •  “looks fucking shit from all angles… hasn’t done anything anywhere. Bravo Spors.” - CBFry

Scienza —

  • “Non-entities with no track record, next summer’s deadwood.” Badger

Not sure that's entirely fair. Pretty much everyone said similar about Larin and he surprised us all.

...but to be fair, he is unsuitable to play that lone role and he offered pretty much fuck all for the majority of the season. I guess he's better than nothing, but a very expensive last resort

I don’t recall saying that about Scienza specifically. Clearly misplaced if I did.

Can't blame Archer for going out on loan, if an esteemed manager like Will Still calls, you just have to go.

Is he ready to step up though? Half a season on loan at Salford this year, no goals. I'm happy to be proven wrong. Maybe we see this season as one where the youth team do step up a bit. After all we have an academy and currently the only first teamers that recently came through it are Bragg and Akachukwu (although we signed Akachukwu from Ireland when he was 17). Leaving ourselves a bit thin squad wise does mean relying on the youth a bit more which for a club our size isn't a bad thing.

I have said our first team is good. It is good enough to get promoted in fact. I'm purely talking about squad depth. Injuries happen, suspensions happen, players go out of form.

you cant predict when injuries will happen, but let's say we get 50% of the games out of Larin until the January window opens, that means we would need to get ten games from Mubama. Is that a "lot of eggs"? Perhaps.

A one in three scoring record is probably about the norm, so we need three and a bit goals from those ten games from Mubama. Sounds possible. Perhaps if we want to win the league we need one or two more...

Don't worry about the striker conundrum. DD will decide this really is his home, fuck up every defence from Portsmouth to Preston, score 30 goals by Christmas, win us the league title with an overhead from the half way line and then we'll sell him to the morons at Chelsea for £150m. That's  not happening is it.

Unless we get someone late today, at least we have shown this year in January that we can utilise the winter window well. There will be also some comfort that because we have shifted a lot of deadwood, we will have room to do some business. We hope Larin and Peretz stay injury free of course until then!

As it stands, I'd say it's not a poor window, given the quality we have so far retained. Just a shame we haven't brought in someone who enables us not to have to play Stephens at all, again.

But even though it's not a poor window, it will be a lot worse if Jander does go as he is brilliant in my view. Thought he made noises about moving on some time ago?

And if the club was keen on making a sure-fire promotion team, this isn't it.

(cue Jamie Vardy joining)

In past windows we'd be so desperate to buy anyone that we'd go down our wishlist until we got into the Sulemanas and Onuachus before paying well over the odds for them, almost never playing them and being stuck loaning them out to try and get some of their wages off the books. I'd rather we didn't do that any more even if we're a bit light at the start of the season.

It's a slightly above average window. We are clearly weaker in some areas and I think it was a bit of an unnecessary PR own goal to suggest that we would be as strong or stronger than last year. Having said that, keeping Jander and Scienza and signing Peretz and Larin are massive positives. We have some excellent players but lacking in some depth in places and so far the jury is out on Dobbin-particularly for the money. I'm not sure the rhetoric about winning the league matches the actions totally. I'll go 6.5-7 out of 10.

Personally I think that Wood or Abbott will be the bold name in the RCB position, but otherwise this seems to be where we are. JWP and Abbot can both cover for Bree if Roerslev heads off to a late deadline league.

We against expectation signed Peretz and Larin, and kept Scienza and Jander. That feels like a win - even if the depth isn't quite what we got used to last year.

When that first 11 is fit and firing we'll give any team in the division a tough game. Tonda and the medical staff did really well with rotation and keeping the team healthy. We're out of the EFL Cup so hopefully that will help too.

i figure Matsuki or JWP could also play the 10 in a pinch.

And let's hope Mubama is really impressing in training. He very well could be.

I'd start a sack of lard ahead of Stephens. More mobile, albeit slightly less vocal.

Any chance this time they can ‘gently close’ the window tonight ?

Clearly weaker but jury is still out. Ok.

Surely the stronger than last year comment will be judged by results? And therefore jury is still out for all and nothing is clear?

I don't think folks are suggesting we should spunk £20m on a striker just that we are asking for trouble if we go into the season with just 2 senior specialist strikers.

Rumour on the Forest forum is that Zach Abbott will sign a new contract there before coming here and we will not have the option to buy. Gutted if true especially if he turns out to be really good. They're protecting their asset I guess. Even so we need a CB. Plus still nothing stopping us trying to buy him next summer if he's a hit.

Wakey wakey! 🙂

Yawn. If you don't like transfer window rating comments I suggest you ignore them. I tried to point out to you yesterday that a forum is for expressing opinions and passing comments. If you aren't up for that then I wouldn't bother. If I gave the window a 9 or a 10 you said yourself you wouldn't be commenting.

Yeah, he has had a couple of bad games to start the season, but the piling on seems unnecessary.

This thread would be completely pointless, and empty, if everyone just waited and judged players on future results though. Maybe a transfer window thread isn’t for you?

How many more times, it's not hate it is an opinion based on his tendency to drop howlers costing goals not just this season but ever since he's been here. All players will make mistakes but, for me, he makes far too many and often under little or no pressure.

Pretty crap window, no?

Only two of the big hitters gone. (Shea, THB... Ok, put Stewart in there too.)

Alternatives signed in all positions and some on loan guys from last year joining full time.. (Schlotterbeck, Abbott, JWP, Mubama, Dobbin, Peretz, Larin)

Considering not going up could have been far more damaging. I am as things stand; satisfied.

Overall i'm happy with the transfer window considering all factors after the way our last season ended. I honestly thought we would lose 6/7 players but we have actually kept our best players and got rid of dead wood. We have lost THB and a midfielder who wasn't even a starter and replaced both. JWP is a huge plus in my view and the new defender had an impressive debut at the weekend.

If i was being fussy i would like another striker and CB, but overall happy with our squad

I do agree, but not going up this season is catastrophic, and every big hitter will be gone.

So it’s a risk, IMO, to not have given the squad a bit more depth.

3rd choice striker in a one striker team is a pretty tough sell, unless it is an u21 player.

I would argue that aside from the relegated PL sides. We are a match for anything in the league.

We have to go up of course to maintain it. We all know it.

It's possible to think he's a good squad player but not captain material or a certain starter without it being down to hate.

Isn't part of the issue that we have to compete with the relegated teams (and overturn a 4 point deficit over the season)? If automatics is the aim as stated then in my opinion you'd be looking at one or two more to really give us that depth and quality.

Many were clamouring for Stewart to come back. Yet again he’s not in the Swansea squad tonight. Too early for DM but personally I think he’ll be better over the course of the season and more reliable than Ross may have been

Problem is people are trigger happy for the slightest mistake. It was the same with Redmond, JWP at times, and irritatingly now Bragg.

We'll need every squad player as the season progresses. Pointless slagging them off. We expect loyalty but don't give it to some players.

I get the feeling that the new defender is already in some people's sights.

33 games last season for Swindon and Salford, and 5 goals in 4 games this season including a hat trick, so he must have something about him.
