sideways is generous, it was backwards as Wellington was a few yards behind him. So typical of the cowardly way Ward-Prowse has always played. Could have taken a touch and unleashed a worldy himself, could have whipped it to the far post, could have made a slide rule pass into the box. Nahh not James 'Mr Safe' Ward -Prowse, nothing entered his brain other than there's a safe pass to my left. For all the stick Edozie is getting, he at least ran at people and tried to make something happen. Today's problem was not leaving Azaz on. Might have got away with changing Larin and Scienza, we lost some cohesion in our attack but were still in control, as soon as Azaz went off the front 4 played as if they'd never seen each other before.

Its almost as though the players dont fit in as a team. We have someone buying players and someone trying to fit them into two different styles of play we have each game.

Well that was disappointing.

I have a horrible feeling the FA is going to ban Tonda for a long time

Given the current form and decision making it might turn out to be a greater punishment for Saints if he's let off.

Literally any player on our team could have rolled it 5 yards to Wellington. The fact he “set up the goal” doesn’t indicate he had a good or a bad game.

One football site made JWP man of the match. If anyone else has passed it (it was way longer than 5 yards) sideways to Welington would they have been accused of playing crab football?
Both Downes and JWP had good games today. We didn’t lose because of them. What did Azaz do today? Plenty of others deserve some stick.

I think the biggest concern has to be not going up this year with the parachute payments ending, then what? Are any of our best players still going to be as Sms? I think not, we'll end up with 10 unknowns on poor wages and Stephens as captain, doesn't bear thinking about 👀😯

Dont start thinking about this stuff yet. Youre naturally and understandably disappointed by today's result but we'll  up and around the play offs places come the end of the season so dont worry just yet.

Tonda needs to deal with the game situation being played out in front him rather than to refer to his spreadsheet plans for those coming in the future. Why change things when only 1-0 ahead and pushing for a 2nd goal? Going 3 at the back at the end was pretty much waving the white flag and throwing in the towel.

We seem to apply this in the majority of our games. No reason why they could have lasted until around the 70th minute mark. Just hands the impetus and momentum to the opposition. I could understand taking your best players off when three up, but not only one nil up.

I can understand Larin coming off earlier in this game to be fair, he's started every league game so far and we simply can't keep flogging him for 46 games without his level dropping and potentially him getting crocked. And he wasn't having his best game today anyway. We HAVE to find another alternative to him up front at least some of the time without such a big drop off in effectiveness. It's mad that an unproven Mubama currently seems our only alternative and he can't seem to hold the ball up, but we are where we are and I think Tonda needs to work more in training with him and the rest of the side to find a way for him to be more effective. It may seem counter-intuitive when he's not doing great, but we may need to actually start him for a couple of games to allow him to settle more.

I agree Scienza should have stayed on longer though as he was at last impacting the game and looking like he would force the vital 2nd goal.

Absolutely stinking performance. Complete lack of composure and bottle against a clearly inferior but up for it side. Got to be better than that.

Biggest concern for me is our subs made us far worse. Edozie demonstrated why nobody wants him, Mubama had trampolines strapped to his boots, Dobbin made that one chance for himself but really should’ve passed.

Tonda has got a hell of a lot to do, 2 really tough home games coming

Tonda saying he is happy with squad and all have a part to play in this season. Went very quiet when asked about subs and was there a quality drop in fwd line when he did this.

If Larin was never doing 90, In some ways we’d of been better off  starting with Mubama & bringing Larin on. We didn’t particularly need an outlet or someone to hold it up  in the first 60 mins, but did in the last quarter. Latin didn’t exactly do much, so chances are we’d have been 1 up anyway (especially after Prowse magical assist for Wellington’s tap in). We’ve got a bloke who can not hold the ball up, & doesn’t seem to have the physicality to battle away alone, and chuck him on to play that role. Look at the goal he did score, Azaz plays him in with a cute ball, he shows decent movement & bang, it’s in the net. Fuck me, we’re playing him in a role totally unsuited  for him, and then the supply lines come from Dobbin, and fucking Edozy. How would Dom Ballard or others on the forum wish list have played in those circumstances….Horses for courses, surely we don’t need a big man up top to relieve pressure and get us up the pitch as we hang in against fucking Lincoln. We should have passed them to death & kept the ball that way, or left Larkin on.

Trouble is, Mubama had a worse half an hour than Larin. We needed a similar player to Stewart coming in. If we wanted so much to bring in Mubama we should have at the expense of Dobbin, who can in no way replace Azaz either.

What actually is Dobbin, a #10, a winger, false striker (in all senses), a bird, a plane, a type of chain garden centre?

The only fact I know is that it’s the worst £9m I’ve seen spent and this from the morons who bought Damion Downs for not that much less. In fact, Downs was the worst outfield player I’ve ever seen in a Saints shirt but if it wasn’t for Dobbin’s PNE spell, I’d be saying he’s no better than Downs.

SR out!

Absolutely woeful performance from Saints bereft of ideas, synergy or passion against a Sunday league team playing a type of footballt hat has no right to be in the Championship and surely will not be come May. What was particularly disappointing was the complete lack of understanding between players, too often people caught ball watching on the back foot rather than anticipating the next pass or movement. Not a single player can hold their heads high tonight and say they did enough. On this showing Saints are a million miles away from being a team fit for promotion.

The mniute Wood came on for Matsuki one could sense we had thrown in the towel and the inevitability of a home goal that sure enough arrived shortly after. Sitting back on a one goal lead is soccer suicide especially against a team who's sole tactic was long balls into the box.

Oh my have we screwed up big time letting THB, Charles & Stuart leave without ensuring proper replacements.

I thought and hoped we'd seen the back of Calamity Jack when his left footed repalcement arrived but bugger me he's back in the team alongside his replacement! You couldn't make it up.

Eckert needs to do some serious soul searching before Tuesday night or his side will be in for a hammering.

He can’t because he owes his job and knows a stronger board and club would have and should have sacked him, but SR are pathetic.

taking Larin/Scenzia/Azaz off when we were in control and in the ascendancy was what killed it today.

None of the three was effective today, in fact they all played poorly by their normal standards. That combined with the need to rest them for Swansea was probably the reasons why they were hooked early. Eckert probably thought the subs couldn't do any worse. Sadly the malaise had spread right through the camp.

Well, there's that, but he also needs to work with and get the best out of these players, that is his job. There's no value in throwing the players under the bus by saying the squad's not up to it at this stage, only harm. Of course, he has got to back them to get better as the season progresses, which some of them may do to be fair. Not sure what some fans expect the manager to say.

Can't play as a lone striker. Not technical enough to play as a 10. Can't beat a man on the wings.

We sold Adam Armstrong and bought a lesser version at greater expense.

If Leo's shot had gone in rather than hit both posts and rebounded out to the keeper, I think we would have won comfortably but sitting back and allowing Lincoln to pump long balls into our box was always going to end badly at 1-0.

Unbelievably we have won our last two home games and drawn our last four away ones

Not bad after Tonda fucked the playoffs which must be in the back of the players minds

If Eckert can’t see that Mubama’s game isn’t looking after the ball on his own up the pitch then the manager is as shite as i think he is.

Said a little while back that when Mubama is playing our game needs to change a bit to play to his strengths (whatever they are).  But all we did today was lump it to him, with 2 blokes on him and nobody in a Saints shirt anywhere near him.  Not surprised he did fuck all.

Manning was good though.  Great sub to bring on when you’re defending a one goal lead!  He is to defending what Savile is to babysitting.

It’s Lincoln, primarily a league one side, beaten by Portsmouth,  against mega bucks premier league wannabes Southampton. These are precisely the teams we should be putting the opposition to the sword.

Draw away, win at home, get promoted. Simple innit...

Tonda thinks far too much about the opposition, he needs to concentrate 99% on us and how we can attack and win. This game typifies how Tonda is thinking this year for the players seem to be totally mystified when it comes to us playing OUR football…

In his pressers you can tell Tonda concerns himself too much with the opponent.

We appear to be doing very little work in training on our patterns and tactics unless it is playing as slowly as possible!

Really Tonda you need to up your game…

Yep exactly,  we've got 8 points from our last 4 games...ticking along nicely , disappointing not to hold on today and another day we go 2 nil up instead of hitting the inside of the post .

Disappointed we didn't bring in another Larin type striker after binning off, BBD, Downes, Archer and Stewart.

Hence finishing fourth that season behind Ipswich who did score a second, third and fourth against similar opponents. Martin’s Saints focused on the possession stats instead.

Players chose awful options today more than once four on four at 0-1 even before Tonda’s suicide subs.

That's what I was thinking. Tonda said we need to grind out these results bug we dont play like a team to grind out wins. I dong understand the subs there is no like for like replacement so a mis match of players and tactics if there is any.

I dont think with the players we have plus Tonda we aren't as good as people/pundits make out and. We play mid table football of safety first, hold and pass as much as possible and dont give the ball away even at tgd cost of attacking or breaking away.

Lincoln game was as bad as it gets poor ineffective football. Not a top 2 team in quality or coaching.

What is this obsession with going to three at the back? Two CBs who have spent the whole game working as a pair and covering each other suddenly find they've got a third colleague getting in their way and confusing them. Not to mention that it leaves us a man down somewhere else on the pitch.

I want a degree of honesty that says yes the guys that came in didn’t have their best game. I know they can do better. That move was in me. If he says that I think he gets some respect and a degree of trust when he says other things. Please don’t start bullshitting about how it didn’t impact the game
