Clasie - Official: Feyenoord on Loan

for me...

Another season loan for him.

A sad reflection of our recent transfer dealings. So that's Boufal, Claise and Carillo on loan. And FF to follow too. That's a lot of £££ fluttering away.

Clasie was Koeman signing so different from other 2 and he had decent pedigree unlike Carillo who someone deserves the sack for on that decision alone....let alone extending the windsock's deal after his performance that season

Yes he did well at start and when he came back but look who was in front of him and how many shots he had to face....stupid decision that extension but goes along with 99% of decisions made last 2 years.

Agreed, I think most people were encouraged and hopeful about Clasie, it just didn't work out (though I guess you can always be disappointed when the professional scouts don't get it right). Everyone was unsure and underwhelmed at best for Carillo, and totally bemused by Forster's new contract.

If we gambled on making much money from players leaving, it's not worked.

The ‘black box’ was never a great analogy seeing as a black box contains the flight data that’s useful for understanding the reasons why a plane crashed or exploded.

Saying that, opening the black box now might explain why the transfers over the last few years have been well under par!

Is it really? Are we really any worse than any other club? Happy to be corrected, so please do point me in the direction of a club that gets 100% on all their transfers?

I think the point is the black box was supposed to make us some what better, not the same as most other teams when it came to transfers. If it’s not providing an advantage it’s not a benefit.

He’s been a crap signing. Couldn’t hack the physicality of the league and typically looked spent after 60 mins. Always thought that he seemed to hide from receiving the ball as well, and not sure he had a forceful enough personality to make his mark on the team - maybe something to do with being homesick. Shame, once again, that we can’t get rid on a permanent deal. One of a number of squad dross.

to be completely honest the signings the last two years have, in the main, been nothing short of dreadful. At times last season we had four or five players who were at one point our record signing on the bench or not even in the squad. Even the ones that were like Hoedt, Redmond, Hojberg haven't really got anywhere near the levels expected of them.

In Carillo you'd struggle to find a worst signing by any club ever taking into account the circumstances that he was a record signing, signed at a time when we were desperate for goals yet he couldn't get in the team ahead of three strikers who only scored 14 goals between them all season. then the hopeless manager who signed him was sacked only a few weeks later. One assist has cost us nearly £20m plus wages.

It's all very well to say other clubs make mistakes as well and don't get everyone spot but other clubs haven't spent the years before that congratulating themselves on how fantastic they are in the transfer market, telling everyone who will listen how brilliantly they plan for everything arrogantly positioning ourselves as superior to everyone else in the way we do things. only for that to be spectacularly blown apart in 3-4 transfers windows.

We currently have over £40m of "talent" out on loan, including two players who were recording signings, with likely more to follow, after few years of very good signings we've had two years of poor ones in addition to the fact that we've consistently failed to address significant weaknesses in our squad. Lets not pull any punches, our transfer business over the last two years has been nothing short of dreadful both in the players we've signed and the ones we haven't.

The SFC Black Box is not named from the black box on an aircraft (which is orange anyway). Black box is a science, computing or engineering term for a device or system which can be viewed in terms of its inputs and outputs without any knowledge of its internal workings. Its implementation is "opaque" (black).

It's hard to argue that since the inception of the black box the club hasn't, in general, signed talent with value above and beyond other clubs. Financially, it has indisputably been a benefit.

Thats spot on.

If you go through the squad list it just looks so average and dull across all positions aside from GK and first choice full backs. It used to be vibrant and full of quality, especially in the first XI.

If Elyounoussi doesn't flourish then our attacking options are quite frankly dreadful and we will be bang in trouble as there aren't enough goals in the side - going back to when we sold Pelle and Mane without replacing their output at all.

How are we going into yet another season with Long (utterly ****e) and Austin (non league fitness) as the go to striker options?

We all know that come October we will have recalled Long to the lineup after Austin gets injured and Gabbi floats out of form.

All whilst its entirely possible our highest paid player will be our 3rd choice GK, who we will struggle to shift for the next 4 years!

Nail. Head.

This window feels more positive so far though (in terms of incomings)...really hope they meet expectations.

Couldn’t agree more. Kreuger is just as capable for letting the old fool p iss away that much money. Will take a few years to undo the stupid errors and sheer quantity wasted. The worst two are the Carrillo signing and Forster’s extension, which is a 4 year millstone around the neck. Appalling to still think Les is employed by the club. In most industries, you’d be sacked for that at a very senior level and hauled in front of shareholders or another form of scrutiny to explain yourself.

For me our scouting and transfer dealing took a dip as soon as Paul Mitchell left to follow Poch to Spurs

Paul Mitchell = Black Box

amen. The use of the term black box has made me cringe almost as much as the #WeMarchOn and the bra kit.

That's what Voetbal International are reporting. The last details to be sorted tomorrow.

sort of good news - shame he hasn't been sold - I've never rated him and never thought he was good enough with or without the ball. He's simply not big enough, strong enough, fast enough or fit enough. Without those facets you have to be some ball player. He aint. A very poor signing. Bet we could have signed Dembele that summer too.

Pretty much, although Stuart Armstrong could also be a good addition. My issue is that we have lost Tadic and replaced him with Elyounoussi. That's fine, but after finishing 4th from bottom we need to be looking at improving our squad, not just maintaining the quality (and Elyounoussi is a risk as well - could be great, but we haven't definitely lost a creative player in Tadic).

Fantastic. Appreciate there are multiple meanings. The aircraft black box was a device for a semi comedic (interpretation will dictate your view) comment on how the date therein is used after a crash, which is kind of what the transfers have been the last two years when we didn’t have a high profile manager to help attract players or autocratic, some may say overly ambitious or crazy business leader telling players we were headed to the Champions League.

We had a core team that had come up through the leagues previously. These were good players, coming into their prime, and used to winning. We supplemented that with some quality buys that were similar mentality and the best of their current level (Jayrod, Clyne) for example. In short, a squad of players all on the up.

On the whole we ditched that strat the summer Poch left. And whilst Koeman built a squad of good players from what he knew, he somewhat plastered over the cracks - and we had the first signs of what was to come with peripheral signings.

Since the we have been in an epic downward spiral. I can't think of one signing in the past 5 windows that matches key players from the end of our 13/14 season. This squad is crying out for players like Morgan, Lallana, Clyne, Lambert, Jayrod, Fonte, Shaw, Wanyama etc in their saints primes. Our best players left are....?

I don't want to be negative, we are where we are, and this window in isolation appears goods. I'll always support players that try for the shirt, but our transfer policy post Poch/Mitchel has been an utter F'ing shambles

I coined it first (although glasgow took it to new levels of trollieness), but we had positive momentum (glasgow's "momentum curve"). Now we sadly have the opposite. And its harder to get it back than it is to lose it sadly.

I read recently that only 40% of Premiership transfers are “successful.” It didn’t define what “successful was though but you get the drift. Less than half work out the way you would like them to. We aren’t alone in buying duds.

Our best two seasons in modern history where plastering over the cracks?

The damage came the summer Koeman left when we ****ed about getting in a new manager and replaced (or in same cases didn't replace at all) badly a number of big players which shattered the spine of the team..

Do people really not understand how things work?? If you are a big club, you can afford the big transfers for people who have proven themselves. For everyone else, it is a risk. Most are adequate. Some are exceptional. Some don't work out. The price we pay comes with a risk attached. van Dijk is a classic case of this. No one was really prepared to pay £13m on what I presume must have been considered to be a risky purchase. We take that risk. We get the reward when a bigger club sees that it works. Its really not rocket science.

Then there is Guido. We shouldn't have backed the manager. He should have been sacked and we should have used the £20m to pay off his contract.

Even in the lower leagues we signed Trottman, Mellis, Dickson, Forte, Puncheon, De Ridder, Lee, Fox and Seaborne, who were... mixed, shall we say.

It's never been 100% sunshine and daises.

Absolutely not, but as Turkish has put brilliantly above...and what others have alluded to before, our hit rate is very, very, very low on successful additions over the last 2 years. That's not good enough when we’ve been selling our ‘best’ most windows, and it means we've been lumbered with a squad full of mediocre players on large wages which we cannot shift.

For a club that screamed out about how well run it is, this has been a cluster**** of shockingly poor squad and financial management over the last 2 years.

Redmond has done alright as a squad player, the problem is he has been relied upon too much because other players have been so poor. As a sub coming on to change things, he’s decent enough for a club our level.

Hoedt, Lemina and Hoj could yet come good if well managed, I’ll reserve judgement for now. Boufal just isn’t suited to the English game.

Agree that the sales of Fonte and Virgil, coupled with the Carrillo signing were an absolute mess and I haven’t a clue what was going through Les’ head.

Have to say signing Clasie always seemed like Koeman doing his mate a favour in helping him jump on the PL gravy train.

Nothing about Clasie suggested he would make it here. Easy call in hindsight though remember some of the dutch boys recommending we watch Clasie's performance against Sevilla in the EL as a showcase of his talents.

What stood out was a player who was tidy on the ball without being incisive and who wasn't particularly physically strong or up to speed even against slower, more technical opposition.

'Coined it first'? No, it was the Dalek that saw the dangers of complacency, the lack of decisiveness and the slide down the league, long before anyone else. Many have joined the party late and now claim to have seen it coming whilst lambasting the Dalek who was the only one calling it.

Les Reed believing his own hype and continuing to sell our best players and replace them with cheap alternatives because it worked for a couple of seasons under Koeman.

How he is still employed is beyond me.

Agreed everyone was excited by the acquisition of Boufal.

As for your last bit, I think at that time selling the club was more important to the owners than operating in a successful way. Carrillo, there is no excuse it was the last dice throw of the desperate.

I do think the fact we were being sold is often overlooked as a contributing factor as to why we strayed from the set of principles we were previously happy to tell anyone and everyone about.

I think Big Leslie is like Carillo, FF, Clasie and Boufal,

The club desperately want rid but we can't find any buyers.

Perhaps well see Les loaned out before the window closes?

I think the club expected him to do the decent thing and resign, probably underestimated his desire to squeeze us for every last penny.
