In summary:

"What a fantastic football to come and work at. Fantastic set-up."

"Can see already in training, we have an honest group of players, of a good standard. What we need now is a few results."

"Alan Pardew and Wally Downes did well last year and won the JPT... not for me to comment on their departure, but they've done a lot of good things at this club and it's important we keep the things that are good, and improve on the areas that need improving."

"Morale is high, there is a good spirit there."

"Most important relationship at any club is between the chairman and manager. I'm excited about and we share a common goal of being successful and getting as high as possible in the league, but the first step is promotion from League 1."

"I'm a young hungry manager who wants to be the best he can be."

"It's difficult when you come in with a game so quickly, and we've had a good conversation with the players and I've started to build relationships with the players individually and on a team basis. We can't implement all the ideas we've got straight away, but we've got to win games and over a period of time, we'll introduce things the way I like to do things"

"I had 14 years at S****horpe and I'm very proud of what we did up there. Their fans were great with me, and I had great support from the staff and players, and it was just a shame we finished losing to Bristol after battering them."

Q: "Can you achieve promotion this season?"

NA: "That's the objective. That's what I've come here to do. I've come here from a Championship club and I want to get back there as quickly as possible. I want this team to be the best team in the division... We will be the best team in the division. It's as simple as that."

Q: "What about transfers? Can you bring in who you want?"

NA: "It's a much bigger setup here, there's far more resources and talent ID staff, and so we can fish in a bigger pond for players than I could at S****horpe. I've got a good relationship with the Chairman, but I'm the manager of the football club, simple as that." (Said with a wry smile coming across his face!)

"My expectation for tomorrow night is a win, and the players know that, simple as that. (He likes saying that it seems!) We've had 1 and a half good training sessions and a good meeting with the players. It's difficult to implement too many changes too quickly, but there's a lot of good things already at the club and we have to deal with the expectation and get a victory, and then recover and get another win at home on Saturday. There is expectation, but that's why we're in football, because we want to win things."

Q: "Do you want to bring in any new players?"

NA: "Good question. Important thing is to build a relationship with players already here. I need to make sure I've got a good handle on players already here. We've got a good side with good spirit, but we can improve the players who are already here, but also bring in one or two to make the group stronger. I've got my own ideas and I'm always looking at players."

"I'm aware of many players here already, and some I tried to sign at S****horpe. (Asked to reveal which, but denied to do so!) I've spoken to the medical staff so I know where they are in that respect.

"Dean Wilkins has been loyal to the club and has been very supportive since I've arrived and is an important member of the team.... Andy Crosby is a great guy to have around and will bring a lot of good things with me to Southampton and I'm delighted to have him here."

"We throw ourselves straight into things. I'm a positive person, and although I've only been here a short time, we've worked hard to establish things already. Things will improve as we understand the players more, but I'm confident we have a good group of players here."

Really good impression from him. Speaks well and is clear, no mumbling or sounding unsure.

Also I got the impression we can bring in 2 or 3 new faces if Adkins thinks we need them, and he seems pretty pro-active at identifying players etc.

Liked the bit when they asked about aims for the season and he just said, " We will be the best team in the league."

Just listened to it myself for the fifteen minutes that it was on.

Came across very well, seemed happy to answer questions honestly rather than the usual "politician style" of answer. Was very impressed with the quote " This is war out there and we need to win football matches, you need to use everything in your armoury against the opposition" In regards to the question over injuries...."Can you tell us any injury news?" He said not expect much as he like to keep these types of things to his chest. Psychology, I like it. You wouldn't show your hand in poker! Unless you're not very good!

Always liked the cut of Adkins gib, seems a bloke who can motivate 11 men on the pitch and talks a lot of sense which goes hand in hand, What he did at S****horpe on a bobbins budget says it all. Also get the impression that he ain't going to take no cobblers from the players in the first team squad.

Andy Crosby in the pictures looks a bit of an enforcer character. All good stuff so far now to see it all put into place.

Came across very well. I liked his last comment. "At the end of the day, it's war"

yeh, thought so too - nice rebuttal to the idea that he's just a mr. nice guy who risks being swallowed up by the job, the pressure, the 'superstars' at the club. always thought somewhat odd that Pards was loose-tongued when it came to discussing injuries.

What a difference now that he has had a couple of nights sleep. No more rambling, repetition and endless sentences. The guy is very personable and clearly knows what he is here to do. At the same time he doesn't intend to give anything away. He is clear, though, that the most important relationship is the one between him and the chairman.

I like him and hope that he will be very successful here.

I know these 'new manager' OS articles and interviews are designed to make fans impressed but, even with that in mind, I genuinely have a good vibe about Adkins. He somehow just feels the right sort of manager for our club. Not a very scientific assessment I know, but something is telling me this is the start of good times ahead....

He comes across really well, i love his enthusiasm, not just for football, but for managing us - you can see how much he wants to succeed in his eyes. That sort of passion and enthusiasm will transfer to the players and we're only going one way when that happens.

''We're going to be the best team in the league, simple as that'' - love it.

I know what you mean, but his interview seemed a lot more honest and he speaking from his mind rather than a pre-contrived club statement. It's impossible not to notice his passion for it.

Just watched it myself. Comes across as a genuine guy with a specific agenda that tallies with what NC and we want.

My foreman just looked at it and said 'I didn't know Lineker wore glasses?'

Very impressed with what I saw and what I am hearing.

Before Pardew was appointed, I always thought Nigel looked like the kind of manager we should consider. I hope I'm proved right. I think Cortese and Nigel will have more empathy, with Nigel being a much better educated man than Pardew, who was a glazer before he became a footballer. He seems a very likeable, upbeat kind of guy - we need someone with that sort of character after all we've been through the last few years.

I liked the indications he gave that he will be looking to improve the squad but when pressed he would not say where, which I thought was very astute as to be specific could have undermined the confidence of some the present players. He knows he has to get the best out of what he has got and we know that the team can perform if they give their best on the day. Also liked his instant response to the question about what do you expect to achieve against MK Dons, and he was unequivical in saying he expects a win. Pardew was often much more defensive, as if getting his excuses ready even before a game started. No team can win every game, but I like a manager who goes into every game expecting to win.

:) I know what you mean, but Pardew was very intelligent and spoke a lot of sense until the pressure started to bite, which did not take that long.

Just watched it and was very impressed. He is obviously very proud to be our manager and you can the hunger he has to be a success here. As others have mentioned I liked the fact he said straight away that: he wants a win tomorrow night; he wants us to be the best team in the league; that it's war and he will use everything in the arsenal to win it; that he is sure he can improve the players; that it came across that he will be able to bring 2 or 3 new faces should he want to.

Also, having watched the Kelvin interview as well, it seems the players are happy to have him here and are all in a good frame of mind.

My forman is having an on site lesson with some Trainers we are having in NLP, to help us in Behavoural Safety. They are teaching him at the moment about Facial Mapping, to help rappor. He just, for a joke asked one of them to do a read on the video clip. I've done some of this myself, and he's just looking for a training aid, for a laugh. One thing that they noticed.

At one stage he is asked a question and answers

' Me and the Chairman have got a good relationship.......' he leans forward towards the questioner, so embraces the truth. then says '........I'm the manager of the football club, it's as simple as that'. Here he comes back to the neutral position, he shows chin raised, Brow lowered, a thing called the dimpler, and a slight embarrest smile, (wry some people would call it) This apparently indicates that there was a sticking point in the relationship, where he had to put his foot down on this specific topic, didn't want to but felt he had to, and felt uncomfortable and embarrased by it. And he stuck to his ground and got what he wanted.

Remember, this is just a bit of fun, and it's difficult on a computer screen, and we could be a million miles out but it seems him and Nicola have a great rapour at the moment, Nigel had to make sure Nicola knows who is controlling the team, and NC does.

Got a bit more out of it. look for the nose scratch, (denoting a big 'but' to a sentance), Head nod towards his left (good area) and target eyes (a little nervous, but want you to know this).

Without all the Facial Expression mumbo jumbo he seems really honest to me, very keen to get on, looking forward to working in a bigger environment with more toys to play with.

(Note the lack of a full stop on the final sentence... This indicates there is more BS to come.) ;)

Okies, Just had a listen...

Top bloke, I Really hope this works out. He talks sense, something I never thought AP did much. Loved the "This is War" comment and how he completely dismissed the "Any Injury News?" question. I like how he spoke of the players, he seems happy enough with the morale of the squad, so hopefully over the next few weeks he can start to implement the style he brought to S****horpe, because that I would actually look forward to go and watch every week. Something I can honestly say I didn't do under AP.

I was happy when we were linked with him, I was very happy when we appointed him, I am even more so now we have heard from the man himself. Hopefully, my upward trend in feelings towards him continue.

Sharp, to the point, and confident. I like it.

Nigel Adkins Red & White Army! COYS!!!!

I put the full stop in just for you.

No more BS I promise just because it is what you want. But there is a whole branch of Psychology devoted to it going back 30 years. there are some great studies done by some really clever blokes and everything.

Here's a bit of it. Don't think of a yellow tree. Whoo, spooky, I just made you do what I wanted. I made you think of a yellow tree.

I don't think you are being truthful though. Have you a secret you would like to share.

And I though we were the red stripe army now.

See, I can be a pedant as well. Are we friends now?

Couldn't have put it better. Very quick to respond to questions and seems very eloquent as well. I know media interaction isn't always considered a definite for a good manager, but it can only add to it. Veh impressed.

seriously, how much is Saintsplayer bringing into the club? Not much I suspect and given the job to bring the content can be done by one person, two comfortably on £25K each, on a Sony Z1 (£3K), MacBookPro (£1800) and FCP (£400), wouldn't the club be doing a whole lot more to engender good relations with its fans by offering the service for free?

I for one will never sign up given the amount of times I've heard complaints on here when people are trying to listen to a game.

I presume there's ads on the service??? Most online outfits are happy to offer content for free and make us suffer an ad or two, why can't Saints? Surely allowing us free access is a better way to engender good feeling within the club and as we progress and people from outside the city take interest, they too can take a look and say, hey look what's going on down at Southampton

I find it quite amazing how fickle the fanbase is a few weeks ago if anybody suggest that Pardew was not up to the job they would be met with a bit of abuse.

I never thought Pardew was the man for the job he was OK but not great .

I feel that Adkins could be very good but needs to be given time as the team still needs additions which Cortese/Pardew failed to get
