Keeping Chaplow

Great news if true, was one of the best players on the park last week at Oldham, was suprised to see him benched today, but it's comforting to know we now have 3 excellent central midfielders. And Wotton. :-)

It was his worst game for us last week against Oldham, he gave the ball away constantly for the first hour of the match.

Would be delighted if we got him permanently come January.

Agree, he was terrible in the first half but picked it up a lot about 15 minutes into the second half. He just needs confidence I think, reading his programme notes before the Oldham game it seems he's been through the mill a bit over the last year or so with disagreements with the manager, being left out of the team and being told he's not wanted at Preston. Got to knock any player really.

He's been a victim in a crap managers bid to play the big man like his Daddy.......so a Ferguson has finally done something good for us !!

Richard Chaplow is hardly the cultured midfield play-maker many on here were asking for a while ago, but what he clearly lacks in technical ability he makes up for in good old fashioned guts and determination.

Any lower league team needs players like this who are prepared to do the 'ugly things' so that our better players (such as Lallana) can do their stuff.

Watch how many runs into the box he makes that dont get spotted, a bit like Guly in his first game, thats the difference with better players, that unfortunately Deano and Spiderman for some reason dont do enough of yet.

Well spotted.........that's why he is better than Spiderman !

He is different from Spiderman. We need players who offer something different and keep the opposition guessing. If we mix it up a bit we will not be so predictable. This was one of our problems last year and AP didn't appear to know how to change the system.

Funny how people see games differently. I thought he was a great little worker. My MOTM that day was Morgan, and a lot of people said he was poor too. Interesting.

Him and Barnard are perhaps the hardest working players in our team. Keeping Chaplow will be great.

Good news this, he isn't the most technically gifted but has more about him then Hammond with a similar workrate. It also strengthens us in CM which we have been crying out for since the start of last season.

Would idealy like to see him in the center with Morgan and drop Hammond. Or even play Chaplow in the holding role and allow release Morgs from the leash.

Do hope this is true. Always liked Chaplow, will be delighted if he is as good as signed up.

agree with that Colin, he got very mixed reviews when on loan to us before, but his feud with Ferguson might be a solution to everyone's problem. Obviously, DF wants to see the back of him, and he would be a valubale addition to the squad.

Only a third way through the season and we've had more than enough injury problems already.

Wotton is getting on a bit and when he is on the pitch it is like giving the opposition an extra player.

rubbish. When he comes on he has as much energy and enthusiasm as a 21 yr old, gets into the right positions and stuck in, protecting back 4. He may lack finesse and quality on the ball, play a long ball or give the ball away more than I would like, but it not an extra player for opposition

This match highlighted how much we need to keep him, or at least bring someone else in, as Schneiderlin was awful. Hammond did an excellent job trying to run the midfield on his own but once Chapters came on we were far better.

Lets not forget all those great performances from Morgan over the last year. Some players have dips in form but he will impress again

Exactly and this will give him a chance to be rested to find his form/ give him a kick up the backside knowing that he has to work for his place in the side

they have not signed anything...what if they are are actually saying they have agreed a fee for us to keep him for good and he will remain on loan till jan

that is what i was asking

Thats what I'd like to know too. I would hate it to be that we keep him until Jan only for Preston to want him back playing at his best for them again. Thats why I hate loans.

Yeah sure, I just mean that without him we wouldn't have been able to shake up CM to such good effect.

I'd have Chaplow on the bench over Wotton any day. I wonder if Wotton enjoys the ironic attention that he gets when he comes on? When he came he was billed as a set piece specialist. I have seen no evidence of this at all. Also i'd start with Chaplow and Hammond against D&R

Competition for places is essential which is exactly what we've needed in the middle. Maybe we need someone to keep Lambert on his toes

Chaplow is exactly what we need in this league, a solid hard working box to box midfielder. Not the worlds most technically gifted player, but can certainly stick his foot in when needed. If Hammond can get back to his previous form we will have some nice midfield options.

I think it's Schneiderlin that needs to sort out his form. Hope his eye hasn't been turned by playing for France...

I think he plays well in the position he is obviously being asked to play. He is easily the most technically gifted CM we have, by a long long way.

I don't get the reason everyone slags off his attacking play, it is obvious to me he has clear instructions from Adkins.

I entirely agree but he had a good season in the Prem before he was injured.

Chaplow has talent, he hasn't just lost it in a few bad years at Preston.

Give the guy a few months, some regular football in a nice settled environment, lots of wins, and we could probably have the best box to box midfielder in the league. I still believe he's championship standard at his best.

On that Logic, perfect for our brief.
