Gotta love the guy. I think this deal is well deserved and although he might not be used as much, his experience will still be useful.

As others have said, well deserved.

He got better and fitter as the season progressed. He wins virtually every header- A Beast

He is a leader, a winner and is still bang up for it. For people who say we should not look at older players, just take a look at Jaidi.

We need to find a Jimmy Case for a couple of years.

I particularly liked this comment from Jaidi:

"I don't know what is happening, there is something strange going on in my mind because I am already thinking about next season, and how we are going to achieve promotion to the Premier League. I haven't even started my holidays yet and I am thinking about next season already and I think that is the same for all the players, we want to get going already.

What a nice interview, very refreshing. Class from him and the club. Good work indeed.

Agree with that. Pardew had some very good things to say about him and his family when he joined us. There was a delay for some reason--something about a work permit I believe.

Also love his comments about the whole pitch invasion thing for the last game and the fans in general.

Have just upgraded my reaction to a

Really Good Decision

Yep, I think the fans have helped this season and we are part of the buzz around the place. Plus his comments about looking forward to next season are significant. I saw him in the first pre-season friendly at Thun and the coaching staff kept him on the pitch at the end doing sprints. Obviously he's getting older and slower (I can sympathise..) but I don't think he'll start next season in bad shape.

He's awesome in the air, but I fear his increasing lack of pace will be cruelly exposed in some championship games. Imagine him up against some other club's Forte.

Still a one year extension makes sense as long as we do bring on another CB who does have pace.

I assume though that the managment will pick according to the situation. I'm not sure every club in the championship possess super fast forwards.

No, but one of the big differences between the various divisions is pace. Your average Prem striker is faster than your average NPC, who is faster than L1 etc. I do think that every NPC club wil have at least one forward with real pace. Jaidi's experience often puts him in the right place to make up for pace, but sometimes we rely too much on Fonte sweeping up after him.

Remember those quotes about the academy scouting for youngsters with pace and strength as the main criteria, because you can teach the other aspects of football.

But as I said , a 1 year contract ...fine, as long as we do bring on a long term replacement with speed,

Most Saints fans will welcome the new one year deal awarded to Rahdi Jaidi this week but this could have ramifications to other squad members, althouth Jaidi had a decent season in League One and obviously still has the hunger and desire to keep playin, Saints clearly had issues in the central defensive positions (Clearly judging by how few goals we let in. WTF?).

Most Saints supporters I have spoken to whilst appreciative of Jaidi's efforts recognised that if we are to tighten up at the back we really need to sign a truly Championship class central defender to play alongside Fonte (who is saying that we won't?), in fairness to Jaidi and with all respect to him, he will be 36 in August and last season he felt the pace at times and had to be rested, not to mention niggling injuries which are a hazard at that age, Jaidi did well to start 2/3's of the total league games last term, but in truth thats about his maximum given the number of games Saints will play. (Pretty blooming obvious he will play less next season - but thats not a reason not to sign him)

This means that Saints either have to rely on what they have or still sign someone as first choice.

Taking the option of relying on what we have, that doesnt look that viable at this moment in time, to be blunt Dan Seaborne didnt look comfortable in League one (Seaborne played in a lot of clean sheet games and never really got the run around apart from by CMS at Pboro) and the step up to the Championship might just be a step too far for him, Aaron Martin looks to have promise, but clearly last season Nigel Adkins did not rate him and this showed in the number of games Martin got under him, either Adkins is going to take a great big leap of faith with Martin or we have to go out and buy someone. (Clearly Adkins thought that in a season where you need to go up playing Martin, combined total of about 6 pro football matches was too big a risk. I would say martin is clearly a 4th choice at the moment.)

But if we do that we will be top heavy on central defenders, I cannot see the Chairman letting Adkins have the luxury of five centre halves on the books, that being the case at least one will have to go, but will it be Martin who would be the simple option being out of contract, or will we look to try and get at least part of our money back on Seaborne, personally I would go for the latter. (Or, as would be the best situation, Martin goes on loan and we get someone else in to play with Fonte.)

My personal view on this contract is we have perhaps let sentiment get in the way of being pragmatic, whilst Jaidi did do a job for Saints, at his age i cannot see him being up to the pressures of the Championship, he was caught out for pace at times in League One (Even though he is slow I can't remember many of these?) and like many of his co defenders was prone to the odd individual error or two as was shown at Brighton & Walsall (All defenders make mistakes, you don't mention all the headers he won - over 90% surely) a good option for cover perhaps (And Im sure thats why he has been kept), but if we are looking to press on, not the man for the job (Yet people wanted us to sign Darren Moore for the Champ a few years ago), I hope Im proved wrong, but this deal will start to show Saints intent for next season, either we are going to be satisfied with what we have already got for next year at the back or this is the start of a rebuilding programme that will see new signings but will spell the end of their Saints careers for Martin & Seaborne or possibly both. (Again, Martin clearly needs to be loaned out, not necessarily let go)

Some poor stuff in this article.

Seems to have been written by an old time fan who simply hasn't come to terms with the fact that we have people with brains instead of Ego's at the top now.

That could be a good article IF written at the END of the Transfer & Loan windows assuming we sign nobody else. But right now just looks sad. All it needed was a single "We hope that we sign a more permananet first choice CB" or that "We hope that the Management actually believes Seaborne & Martin are ready" but no, doom and gloom stylee

Clearly they ain't on the bus. Who runs that site?

Oh
