If we were to sign Wanyama and Osvaldo then a European shot might not be so far fetched.

Osvaldo is deffo champs league quality and Wanyama looks pretty tasty too.

To think only 4 years ago we in league 1, on -10 and were contemplating the end of SFC and whether we'd still support a new club in the Wessex league.

NC saw the potential and now we are talking about Wanyama and Osvaldo.....what an amazing ride.

think we could play something like this - or at least have the option to go between this and a 4-2-3-1. Would def give us some more options!

-------------Boruc-------------

Clyne--Lovren--Forren--Shaw

----------Wanyama------------

----Schneiderlin--Cork--------

Ramierez--------------Lallana

-----Lambert/Rodriguez------

I'm not sure it would. It's not as if Schneiderlin struggles to get forward when he's playing behind three, and that team would rely far too much on the full backs for width. Besides, Wanyama is a more offensive player than Cork any day.

Ramirez and Lallana are not wide players.

indeed but has to be reasonably substantial money when they no longer take bets. I don't know for sure but you have to be some sort of idiot to bet on transfers with no real knowledge of what is happneing.

As has been said Wanyama can play CB, width provided by Clyne and Shaw playing Wingback roles, Wanyama could push on into midfield when we attack. I would also envisage Lallana playing further forward (in the hole) although Ramirez would also be an option.

He'd be a waste at centre-back. I have a guy in my amateur team, he's big, strong, quick and a decent footballer. He can run games from midfield. He's played centre-back a few times and he does a job yes but his influence is diminished.

IF Wanyama has qualities like Viera or Yaya Toure I don't think we want him sitting at the back, we want him bullying midfielders, starting counter attacks and winning headers. IF he's as good as some people make out he'll be a key centre-mid for us.

People are bending over backwards to keep Cork in the team, aren't they?

This is a lineup with 6/7 defensive minded players....(depending of which category you put Schneiderlin in, for me more of a defensive player though)

Cant see it work out imho.

word! I reckon wanyama + morgan pressing in centre midfield would be murders, there ain't a midfield in the prem that would be comfortable against them two

Very much this!

If all is completed and Wanyama signs, a potential pairing of Morgan and Wanyama as is hoped, could become something of a formidable proposition against ANYONE.

Southampton on the verge of signing Wanyama

By ODINDO AYIEKO and AGENCIES

Posted on Friday, June 21st, 2013 at 12:58 pm

Southampton have agreed a Sh 1.3 billion (£10million) fee with Celtic for Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama but the player says he is yet to agree personal terms with the English club which will make him the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League.

Wanyama, who is on holiday until July 10, says he has not been contacted by Southampton but alluded to the fact that the club has severally tried to get his signature.

“I am on holiday, I am only hearing this from the media but I can say the deal is far from being complete. Yes, my club has agreed terms with Southampton, but I will also have to agree to terms before I consider myself a Saint,” said Wanyama who was recently installed as captain of Kenya national football team.

Frankly can't see Cork, Wanyama and Morgan in the same team - IMO MP wants the two CMS to be proper box-to-box types that can switch between defense and attack the way the successful German sides do. From being all the rage, the specialisation between DM and CM and AM appears to be falling out of fashion.

Unsure if Cork provides enough in an attacking sense to fit this spec. A player like Wanyama also provides some power and direct running which we haven't had since Viafara's poor man's version in the NPC. Apart from Clyne and Shaw, we sorely missing that option, especially in the middle of the park where it's much more dangerous, committing opponents to create space for others on both sides.

I think Corky's defensive skills are top-notch, so Wanyama will have to be something special to trump them. But if he can, it might mean that we can take a few more risks with our furthest advanced CM. Davis inclusion has been a compromise, a commitment to maintaining shape and organisation. If Wanyama and for that matter, Lovren make us stronger, perhaps we won't need as much as defensive redundancy in other areas of the pitch.

Cannot see us lining up with 6/7 defensive minded players - we really did struggle for goals and find it hard to create openings at the end of the season. In terms of transfer priorities, would have started with a winger and striker before turning our attention to another CM (of course, we may have done and nothing stops us being opportunistic if a good player whatever the position comes available).

Still if Wanyama can provide some burst, it will be a start in that direction...

What gave you that impression?

Call it gut feeling but there are too many other clubs names being mentioned in dispatches and he is basically saying that nothing is agreed... Which I interpret to mean... Get a move on Arsene... These stuffy oinks from the South Coast are serious!

I often believe the timescale is about 5 days once you have agreed a fee with a club, I do get the impression players cut their holidays short to sort out the final details plus do the medical.

Not in this case seemingly...

So that's not a 'no' then Vic? Glad he knows our nickname too!
