SuperSAINT Posted 18 June, 2019 Posted 18 June, 2019 Liverpool will not be making a move for either Alex McCarthy or Dorukhan Tokoz – both of whom have been reported as being potential transfer targets for Jurgen Klopp this week. Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was an admirer of the Guildford-born custodian who has been capped once by England in the second half of a 3-0 friendly win over USA in November 2018 but the ECHO understands his name has not been discussed by the current management team. the saint in winchester Posted 18 June, 2019 Posted 18 June, 2019 Just kiddin' Ja ... merely suggesting Liverpool were actually going to move for Forster instead! They won't.

We much have enjoyed the Tommy “Fourpast” experience so much that we thought we would have 2 of the buggers clogging up the roster.
ErwinK1961 Posted 24 June, 2019 Posted 24 June, 2019 How strange. I broke the news about Forster being the best keeper in training a long time ago and the echo have said the same. Not sure how they knew that, so assuming they picked it up from here. Adam Leitch has mentioned it on the Total Saints Pod on a few occasions.
St Chalet Posted 24 June, 2019 Posted 24 June, 2019 "Saints were handed out a 3-0 beating in which Forster could have done very little to prevent from happening." Apart from catch the ball?
doggface Posted 24 June, 2019 Posted 24 June, 2019 Am I the only one who feels McCarthy has been a bit hard done by? Only standout player in a **** side for the half-season he played in 17/18. Would have been relegated without him. Form dropped off a bit 18/19 granted, but still did ok.... I would have 20 players out the door before him.
stevy777_x Posted 24 June, 2019 Posted 24 June, 2019 "Saints were handed out a 3-0 beating in which Forster could have done very little to prevent from happening." Apart from catch the ball? He could have done better for 2 of West ham s goals. Don’t know what game the echo were watching.

He's a high value asset.

To an extent I agree but nobody will buy Fraser who, as the echo article confirms, is our highest paid player. As Fraser appears to be staying he has to have a function which makes Mccarthy the fall guy. If prefer Mccarthy as number 2 all day long but we can't justify him, Fraser, Gunn and about 5 other pro keepers.

Mr Saints Posted 24 January, 2020 Posted 24 January, 2020 No coincidence our form has improved since he came back in. Very solid keeper.
bpsaint Posted Friday at 12:39 Posted Friday at 12:39 Player of the season 2017-18 when his form guided us to survival, and of course his short run of appearances when Baz got injured very likely helped us get promoted in 2024, particularly with an important save late in the final against Leeds. Wasn't his fault we gave him a 2 year extension and can’t blame him for taking it, even when we could see he wasn’t the keeper we needed. For those couple of important runs of form in this clubs history he gets my thanks and best wishes with the rest of his career. 18
East Kent Saint Posted Friday at 18:34 Posted Friday at 18:34 Like Forster he had a few good runs in the team but then somehow lost form . Might of been playing out from the back nonsense but he didn't regain that good form 1
Toadhall Saint Posted Friday at 19:16 Posted Friday at 19:16 All the best Alex - thanks for everything. 2
waterlooville saint Posted Friday at 19:45 Posted Friday at 19:45 Thanks for everything you’ve done for the club, good luck for the future 3

Thought it was a mistake to extend his contract a couple of seasons back. Still, ten years service is a good stretch; seemed like an ok bloke and did well in the play offs to help clinch promotion under Martin. 1
SNSUN Posted yesterday at 01:55 Posted yesterday at 01:55 Thanks Alex. Does he get a testimonial or is that something that doesn't happen anymore?
Oldandtired Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I thought he was one of the better shot stoppers we had. His downfall, IMHO, was the introduction of the new sport of Extreme Fannying Around In Your Own Penalty Area Thereby Allowing Other Teams To Come And Steal The Ball....to be played at all costs and in every situation. That he definitely wasn't good at. 8
Whitey Grandad Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago 10 hours ago, SNSUN said: Thanks Alex. Does he get a testimonial or is that something that doesn't happen anymore? He joined us in 2016 so he's been with us for ten seasons which used to be one of the criteria for a testimonial. They were seen as a partial reward for missing out on sign-on fees and suchlike.
kitch Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Some good moments in his time with us over the years but he rode our wage bill too long for me to be properly sentimental. Good luck to him. 1
St Chalet Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Overall a solid stint at the club. One of those blokes who was not a great number one and probably too good (expensive) to be a number two. If he hadn't have come in for Baz in 2024 we'd have never have gone up. 2
Lighthouse Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago As much as I’d like to be nice, I can’t help but feel that the number of PL appearances he made was a pretty tragic indicator of how poorly we’ve recruited goalkeepers over the years. Gunn and Bazunu aren’t PL players and he only got on the pitch at all because of Forster’s personal issues. Giving him a new contract two years ago really just showed how rudderless our recruitment was after Wilcox left. Still, on the upside he was once PotS and helped keep us up in 2018, so we can always be grateful for that. Good luck in the future Alex. 4
SylvianSylvian Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago What were big Fraser's personal issues? Always wondered why his form plummeted
Colinjb Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 6 minutes ago, suewhistle said: FF's personal issues were... personal. Quite. Cannot blame people for the curiosity though. How he could plummet in form so massively was just appalling. As for Alex McCarthy. His return to the team after Baz's injury in 2024 was critical to our promotion through the play-offs. He outlasted so many players in his position, can only respect that.
