As for stats they are misleading, that team and until last night we havent utilised his assets. Perhaps now IJ is going to use his strengths and the naysayers will perhaps go away. Archer or TP? I would have him all day long He’s scored two headers, which is a fairly tepid return for a striker who’s 9ft 4in, and tapped in a couple of rebounds off the keeper/post. The fact that people are actually bigging up a striker with four goals by April, one ahead of Jan Bednarek, just shows how ridiculously low saints fans expectations have fallen. If I’m wrong then we’ll be entertaining bids from other PL clubs in summer, possibly from those just promoted, however I suspect I’m not and we won’t be. 1 1

Thise tap ins were a bit more than that, we havent anybody else who gets near to rebounds. He was quicker to the ball at Ipswich and the ball coming back off the post against Wolves took quick reaction.Yes he has scored with 2 headrers, but even you will admit to the case we havent played to those strengths and not got the ball into the box to let him get more. 6
Lord Duckhunter Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I’m not convinced he’ll be that good in the championship. Whilst it’s true the defending is a different level in the premier league, it’s more physical lower down and players are more used to playing against big lumps. For me, keeping him will depend on a few factors. The style the new manager wants to play, the alternatives available to us, and the offers we get for him, being the main 3. 2

How many actual minutes has he played to score those four goals? I wager it's not many which is a point you continually ignore.
Fabrice29 Posted April 3 Posted April 3 13 minutes ago, saintant said: How many actual minutes has he played to score those four goals? Which is 200 minutes more than Mara got last season, who scored 3 goals and I don't remember people arguing he should have been given a whole season in the Championship playing to his qualities. 1

Reckon he's played more like the nine games (and not all them either). Fact is, you need a striker and we've only got Archer, previously AA, and a non-playing Stewart - so TP needs to play. 1
CB Fry Posted April 3 Posted April 3 If you take his goals-to-minutes ratio and use a fairly standard coefficient calculation considering standard of opposition across his career then it is a very reasonable assumption that in next years Championship season Tall Paul can and will score 57 goals. 1 1

Like I said, we’ll see what summer brings. He could probably do alright in the Championship but then again so should Archer and Armstrong. I think the £25-30m other PL clubs will pay for a 15+ goal a season striker could be better spent elsewhere.

He's basically fucked after 60 odd minutes.
suewhistle Posted April 3 Posted April 3 He used to be, but I think he's actually got fitter. Maybe that's what has led him to getting more minutes recently, unless it's purely Juric's desperation!

UpweySaint Posted April 4 Posted April 4 The palace goal was a good finish and his height causes problems but he remains a technically limited footballer. If we set up to play to his strengths he could be important next season. My gut feeling is this won’t happen - I can’t say I’m too fussed though. Either we plan with him or plan without him, so long as there is a workable plan. Either way I’m pleased to see him get a few goals this season. He seems to have a good attitude and he was becoming a bit of a punch line despite impressive numbers in admittedly lesser leagues. 2

S-Clarke Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Thank goodness, feels one of the longest sagas. He was a weird player, some uncharacteristic moments of skill in some games, but if we're honest he was a truly horrendous footballer and will almost certainly not be missed. 2 1
coalman Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago There were rare occasions he looked unplayable and truly unsettled opponents. Those were few and far between. English football was never going to be a match for the panickiest of panic signings at the end of the Jones era.
spyinthesky Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Tall Paul + Marcelo Carillo + Augustin Delgado Put them all together and you wouldn't come up with a decent player. 1

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago 2 hours ago, Turkish said: All of Paul’s goals here for us to enjoy don’t be sad it’s over be glad it happened A couple of powerful headers with decent centre forward positioning, one decent poachers goal and one where he looked too knackered to do anything other than stop running, but it hit off him anyway. A panic buy to support a manager who was already rambling towards the exit. That was followed by systems that were never a fit, long spells out of the side and random appearances when managers had gone through every other option. In those he often wheezed and puffed after 20 minutes. Having said that, in at least one wheezing, puffing game he did keep it going and looked better for a while, before it finally took its toll. When he did appear, managers really didn't set up to take advantage of his strengths. A poor signing for all concerned, with only his bank balance, and agent, having done well out of it.

CB Fry Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago 2 hours ago, Turkish said: All of Paul’s goals here for us to enjoy don’t be sad it’s over be glad it happened That video is only one minute long and he's scored four goals. In a standard Prem season there is 3,320 minutes. So if you extrapolate that correctly how many goals should he have scored? Really makes you think.
