Willo of Whiteley Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Russell Martin left on horrific terms with the board and players. He doesn’t like the board and the board doesn’t like him. It won’t happen. It’s the same reason Gary O’Neill won’t be our manager, as soon as there is a single mistake or one defeat the fans will be in uproar, and there’s no coming back from that.
Saint Billy Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I've seen dogs eat their own vomit but SR are taking this a stage further if they reappoint RM. Do they not fekin realise that he is responsible for a lot of the shit we are in now, and if this happens they are eating it. 3
rallyboy Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I don't know what the dislike of Martin is all about, he interviews incredibly well, his job conversion stats are right up there, it's just the managing that exposes him. Anyway, I'm not buying those rumours, they smack of lazy headlines and clickbait - if he came back and lost two games the owners would be royally fucked and finished, an insane gamble. Carrick sounds more plausible. Please. 2

Those wankers are why we are in the position we are and if they want Martin back he's definitely the wrong choice because this set of gutless, pathetic, weak minded tossers are poison and wanting their mate back really does say it all. They want their 4 days a week off back again. 1

OldNick Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Listening to the Solent phone in a debate, I listened to some of our fans, OMG what are they on, as for the one who went off on one and said MLT lol. Prutton came on and was saying how wonderful RM is and would be, I was disappointed that none of the people in the studio didnt pull hm up and tell him how the majority of fns thought about him. Itwas like when Hoddle was going to return, real vitriol. If they even consider Oneill for a second they really are not Saints/football people with any understanding of having an Ex Skate at the club and the jibes of Agent Oneill 1
jasonbenali Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) The cynic in me thinks you drop Martin's name into the frame through 'insiders', mention that Eckert also an option and then when you appoint someone that you've never heard of but you believe will be yet another coaching masterstroke the fans will go, well, at least it's not one of them... (edit - couldn't remember how to spell Eckert as had never heard of him...) Edited 4 hours ago by jasonbenali 2
beatlesaint Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Guys, Spors does not like posession football, he likes the high press. We have spent close on £50 million in the summer on players designed for high press NOT RM's tappy tappy shite. There is no way Spors is choosing RM, they/he may be incompetent but they do stop short of lunacy !

I find him one of the most obnoxious & arrogant managers around. Turns out the same drivel over and over again, was doing so at Rangers recently "must be braver" bollocks. Never any accountability that maybe his keep ball plan doesnt work and quick to throw people under the bus. 5

AlexLaw76 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago He'd rather lose playing his way, than adapt. Except, we did adapt as we tailed off in the Championship season (then shifted back to his madness) 2

Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago RM in advanced talks according to the press. I sincerely hope this is BS. If he comes back then that'll be the final straw for me. 1 1

As far as shortlisted candidates go I'm hearing whispers from a lot of people I trust about Heiner Backhaus, manager of Eintracht Braunschweig. Braunschweig are currently 15th in Bundesliga 2. They have won 3 of their first 11 games but they have been unlucky in a lot of those and their -10 goal difference doesn't reflect the amount of possession they have had in games. Backhaus likes a high-intensity, pressing game. He's got a recent promotion on his CV as he got Alemmania Achen out of the third tier, and he also kept them up. At 43 he's a younger manager, so he's still making his way in the game but has got a lot of potential and is under the radar at the moment. ...is probably what Johannes Spors is thinking. kitch Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I know the logical side of everything says the RM rumours are just lazy journos, but this club's been such a dumpster fire in recent years, I'm still getting anxious there's an element of truth in it. I'd be fucking LIVID. I think Sports Republic would probably go down as our worst ever owners if they were to do that, and we've had Rupert Lowe. 4

I heard that too, but who at the club specifically? Dragan said in his big summer interview that he didn't want to fire him and would have given him more time. Spors didn't join until after Martin had left. So in terms of people in positions of enough power at the club to influence the selection of a new manager, that can only really mean Parsons or Rasmus. Rasmus's focus is on Goztepe now he's unlikely to be a key decision-maker, and if it's just Parsons then that is very different to 'the whole board hate him', particularly if Dragan thinks Parsons is also a bit shit, which surely he must do by now.

I think you and I have got the same club contact - as I was hearing his name over the weekend. I follow German second division football very closely and I'm fairly sure I saw his team lose 5-0 to FC Magdeburg at home. They were very unlucky and on another day it might have been only a 4-5 defeat or, with a wee bit of luck, maybe they might have stumbled to 5-5. Someone with that kind of nous and ability would be ideal for Stoke away on a Tuesday night. My main concern is his age. At 43 he's presumably too old for us.....? 1 2
Sarnia Cherie Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Lots of unlucky, might, only, doesn't fill me with any hope. Saints have existed on those 3 words for years now. It's depressing.
Saintsfanuk Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) How is Martin returning even a rumour, must be Martin himself getting his name about. Spors in the man responsible for appointing he has already failed with Still he's not going to ruin himself further by appointing a failed manager again. Imagine he gets appointed and we lose a few games straight away, it'll be absolutely toxic. I reckon he would get a period of 2 minutes until the insane passing backwards and having the players lose it on the edge of the box again would just get booed. We would also have to sack him if he got us up as he is a complete failure at that level as already proved. Edited 2 hours ago by Saintsfanuk 1
imadirtyurchin Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago What the club needs is an appointment that doesn’t immediately divide and antagonise an already angry fanbase. What the fans need is a managerial appointment that isn’t so ideologically wedded to pedestrian, propaganda football that is riddled with errors and conceding goals and can actually get results. No one cares about winning the possession league. What I need is never to have to suffer Martin-ball at my club ever again. I’d rather watch my nails grow. 3

Eire Saint Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Divisive from the off, would be a crazy appointment. Impossible to build positivity and get the fans back behind the team when so many of us hate his style of play.

The point is that Alfie was saying that ‘the board’ don’t like Martin and wouldn’t reappoint him, but if that’s not Dragan (who said he wanted to keep him), not Spors (who wasn’t there), not Parsons (who is focused on commercials) and not Rasmus (who is focused on Goztepe), then who is left that Alfie is suggesting would block an RM return?

Lord Duckhunter Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Guys at the end of the day it’s our club. “Southampton till I die”, not conditional on who is in the hot seat. I won’t be happy but I’ll give him a reasonable amount of time to start winning before calling for his head. About 15 mins into his spell is reasonable, if we’re not 2 up by then, the Lego headed cock will be getting some clog from me .. Edited 1 hour ago by Lord Duckhunter 1
