You're right, we would sell, we would reduce spending and there would be lay offs.

The future plans for the club rely on us going up and going up this season. We won't be able to compete at the business end of the Championship and years of mediocrity in the second tier would be a distinct possibility.

I'm not talking 2009 but I mean we would be in big trouble as to our future proof planning of being a solid mid-table PL club. It's all up in the air if we don't get promotion. So I'm led to believe.

Fine, then yeah, if we don't go up we don't have as much chance of getting promoted next year as we'll have less money.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were confirming something so bleeding obvious, and dressing it up as being ITK.

Alex McCarthy

"staggering" - Kopp
"fantastic" - Adkins

Played in top six levels of English football by 22.
England full and Under-21 international, with first suggestions of England international potential a decade ago.
Replaced another England international in a Premier League side.
Southampton player of the season in the Premier League.
Resiliant, making returns to the side replacing Forster, Gunn and Bazunu in the Premier League.

Where wages aren't an issue (and who knows what McCarthy would accept if given a longer term contract), you could do an awful lot worse.

That’s not true our planning now takes into consideration all potentials. We have a plan in place if we don’t get promoted this season.

Can't see McCarthy going this window, no one is going to match the wages he's on here and in the summer he'll earn a bonus signing on fee for whoever he signs for anyway.

Could agree a no fee sale, and the buying club offer him a decent signing on fee to counter act the wage.

no chance we get a fee. Doubt we have been looking for one. It's the wages that are are killer to any move. Doubt his next club ain't paying him as much as we are currently. Perhaps we could pay the difference for the last 6 months of his contract. He'll no doubt have a loyalty bonus coming his way if he sees out the contract too, so he wont be pushing for a move.

See West Ham linked to Kalvin Phillips (apologies if mentioned earlier, only looked at last 2 pages)

If it happens, hopefully that involves a buy either now or the summer… Downes must be thinking WTF and if we go up hopefully gives us a better chance of getting him.

Yeah they would have Soucek, Alvarez, JWP and Phillips as their CM's. Downes won't get a look in.

Fantastic news, would absolutely love to keep him. Quality player.

Most of the Ipswich squad were in League 1 a year ago and are still young, hence the low wages due to existing contracts. Things will change once the vultures start circulating and players start expecting to be paid the ‘true’ wealth.

Taken from Reddit, this is apparently the total wages paid per club.

To goes to show what an amazing job Ipswich are doing.

$$$$BROGA ALERT$$$$

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13051042/armando-broja-chelsea-willing-to-sell-striker-for-50m-with-fulham-and-wolves-interested-in-albanian

He is in the shop window!

would you still want him?

50 mil ??? Last week 35mil this week. Seems Chelsea want rid!

Chelsea have reduced the price of Armando Broja.

The Blues wanted £50million for the Albanian striker.

However, they have reportedly knocked off £15million and will accept £35million.

The deal for any potential suitors is a loan until the end of the campaign with an obligation to buy in the summer.

We are prob not in the convo with PL teams interested , but with Poch still interested in KWP, would you want to swap  BRO for KWP? Loan Broga to buy next year for 20-30 mil when we go back up?

Broja has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €20m, and the article below argues Chelsea asking price is too high.

https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2024/01/chelsea-transfer-news-openda-gimenez-and-six-forwards-better-value-than-rip-off-broja

Prior to his knee injury, Broja impressed on loan at Southampton in the 2021/22 season, hitting nine goals in 38 matches in all competitions. He has 2 in 17 appearances for Chelsea.

I don't remember being hugely impressed, he was better than what we had, which was not hard that season, but 9 in 38 is hardly setting the world alight.  £5m player at best.  Football carries on being stupid though at premier league level.

I was impressed by him - and I'd pay more than £5m, although he is never coming here. It's worth remembering that he was only 20 at the time. Shearer scored 4 league goals in 36 top flight games for us when he was the same age.

I like him Broja. He has pace, power and ability on the ball. Not too many strikers have those attributes.

He scored some nice goals for us too. For a period he looked a top class Prem striker, causing defenders real problems. No doubt about it, his form tailed off towards the latter part of the season, and there was much debate on here as to whether his head was right. But I would say in his defence that the supply to him was non existent and we weren't playing well as a side, losing nine of the last twelve games.

It was a shame we could not sign him. We badly needed a striker during the season we were relegated. He won't be joining us now or in the summer.

Whilst he was 19/20 years old, in his first season at that level. It was a pretty impressive showing, and he was about far more than just the goals he scored. Admittedly he did fade towards the end of the season but that can be expected given his age.

His injury has probably set him back a fair bit. Would love him back here, but unless we go up there's zero chance of that happening.

These are just the estimated wages by capology based on last years financials while we were in the Prem. This is without applying the 40% wage reduction clause that all our contracts reportedly had. They will correct them when the financial report comes out.

It is also assuming that loan players are having their complete salary paid for - which is not true.

Essentially, this is an estimate of what our wage bill would have been had we lost all the players we did this summer (transfer and loan) but remained in the Premier League.

Leicester reportedly didn't have many reduction clauses as they had been playing in Europe, so their figures could be close, but likely still high.

Leeds had massive clauses (reportedly up to 60% for some). That was why they lost so many players to loans this summer, because players would only accept the relegation wage reduction clause if they could get a loan clause inserted upon relegation as well.

I'm fairly sure that the positions on the table will be accurate, but the difference in wages between us and the other recently relegated teams (like Norwich) won't be as vast as it is projected to be here.

Liel Abada mentioned for saints. ( Daily record and on X) 5ft 6 Israeli winger/forward plays for Celtic.
Been injured but just back. sScottish pfa young player of the year 2022 (wiki).

Possibly available to buy or loan - supposedly due to the pro Palestine stance of Celtic fans and him being conflicted by it. Think it’s probably rubbish and a bad excuse for both the pro or club to want to unload a player for - but 99% of rumours are rubbish - so make your own mind up.

Sounds great - buying an injured striker with Scottish connections has worked incredibly well this season.

Of course they can but Che knows he can leave for free at the end of the season anyway. Not sure he's exactly desperate for a move now when he can do what he wants in the summer.

Well, yes, but I think there will be that many more options for clubs in the summer so they may well see him for what he is - not very good. If he attracts interest now and gets a fee it would be good for us to help someone who can score goals. Lower Prem clubs might be desperate to get someone in, although doubt it will be Forest or Everton given recent FFP issues. Can't say it would be a disaster if he went. Still shudder at those open goal misses from one yard

They don’t. Our last published wages was about £113m. There is no way that has been reduced to £40m.

Our parachute payments this year are £41m, reducing to £34m next year and then to £16m in year 3.

To compare, a bog-standard Championship club - Preston - received (from all avenues/sources) something like £19m last season.....

If that has any relevance

Kalvin Phillips to Wet Spam agreed according to SSN. Loan with option to buy.

Reckon this makes Downes more likely to stay with us.

KUMB Forum seems quite happy to let Flynn Downes go as they now have an embarrassment of riches in midfield. £20m was the fee suggested on the basis it was the same price we requested for Nathan Tella last summer - a loanee that played a crucial part in promotion from the Championship.

Sure I read he’s costing West Ham about £10m for half a season. That’s bonkers if true.

They’ll probably want to get a top wage earner who doesn’t play much off their books.  Don’t know who that might be though.

Do you think there was any purchase price suggested when the loan first happened? I know there’s no obligation to buy at a set price like THB (well, not one that’s been made public anyway).
NB he cost WHU €10.65m and transfermkt value him currently at €8m. At either of those prices he is a must-buy imo.

Would I want Armando Broja?

A striker who had a purple spell of maybe eight games mid season scoring a grand total of six league goals, and who has since had a major knee injury, all for just £35m, for a team that is desperate to sell in order not to get penalised for financial fair play?

You know what, I’ll give it a miss. 😅
