Not MLG, he admitted he guessed despite being the clubs FM researcher. He confirmed he used media reports and guessed using the club accounts to work out back from. No wonder not many people react to his twitter posts.

Only rumour I've heard is that the professionalism within the new recruitment set-up means there are less rumours.

Any danger of a rumour?

There’s a chance there’s few to no rumours is because there’s not a lot of transfer business going on. Why? There’s not a lot of call for players coming from the 2nd worst team in EPL history and even if there is, we’ve over-priced the players that are available. And with no sales (yet), any purchases/loans are delayed. Maybe.

Just to keep things ticking over then: have we done Shea Charles to Leeds from a week ago, from some shite Leeds site who got it from seven throwaway words with no sources in the Daily Mail?

https://www.leedsunited.news/transfers/leeds-united-are-now-considering-surprise-raid-to-sign-15m-southampton-midfielder-that-pep-guardiola-loves/

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14792559/Premier-League-clubs-Newcastle-Magpies-Champions-League.html

Or the subsequent 'actually he'd be more likely to go to Rangers', in the opinion of a random journalist, with absolutely nothing to back it up?

https://www.leedsunited.news/transfers/look-away-daniel-farke-as-leeds-united-midfield-target-told-hes-now-more-likely-to-sign-for-rangers/

Pretty weak stuff isn't it. But it's all I've got.

HMRC usually have the final say.

Apart from Andrew Watson, and Master Bates when he has read newsnow.co.uk, there is a dearth of genuine ITKs on here these days.

All the proven ones (Guan, kbilly etc) no longer post here and you can see why.

Poku and Aarons, both mentioned on here a few times as players that we should be interested in seem to be off to Rangers.

Ipswich have enquired about Marc Guiu and Divin Mubama from City as Delap's replacement

As for us, the only noise is about Onuachu and the fact Trabzonspor have agreed terms with the player (how true that is I don't know), but don't want to pay the £4.2m we want for him. No surprises there.

New opta power rankings for league strength just dropped.

So signing players from the French league would probably be good for the championship

I notice that Bryan Mbeumo joined Brentford (then in the Championship) in 2019 from French Ligue 2 side Troyes. He  scored 15 goals in 42 league games for Brentford that year and one in the play-offs. I wonder what the reaction would be on here if Saints signed a striker from Ligue 2?

Mbeumo was 19 (just) when he signed for Brentford too. I'd like to think anyone of that age scoring 15 goals in their first season would be regarded pretty well.

So looks like Russell Martin has gone from managing in the top division in the world, to one that doesn't even rank in the top 30.

I suppose it depends who is making the signings, the manager or the transfer committee team.

Cant see anything going wrong if it’s the latter in charge still, see Orsic, Onuachu, Brereton-Diaz and Sulemana as recent examples. 🤣

We have a new Technical Director who gives the impression of not being a tit, and has a pretty good reputation. He has spent a number of months trying to improve things. Hopefully we will continue to sell for high prices and do much better on the recruitment. A few more Fernandes & Rambo type deals rather than some of the oddballs Sports Republic seem to unearth.

I'm well aware that the proof of the pudding is in the eating of course

Yep, 15 goals in your teens would lead to a long queue of interested clubs, Brentford would have plenty of competition for his signature.

Jordan Thomas for Cheltenham who is early 20s just scored 8 goals from wide areas in his first FT professional season and lots of interested clubs including Millwall, Boro and others apparently.

Expect him to do well there.

Then.

Celtic will still do better though: better manager and players.

I asked Grok who the best poster was and this it seems @The9 has a new fanboy !!

It’s tough to pin down a single "best" poster on the SaintsWeb forum, as it depends on what you value—insightful analysis, humor, or consistent engagement. Based on discussions from related sources, one poster, The9, has been highlighted for their ability to research and analyze issues intelligently, with posts that are clear and compelling enough to make others wish they’d written them.

Probably initial concern followed by huge delight when they performed as well as Mbeumo.

Sure they nearly sold him in 2022 back to France as he didn't really perform as he has been doing this season.

Wow, the Championship in sixth place. UEFA should start letting us second-tierers into the Conference League instead of the 7th placed Prem team to make it fairer ;)

The 'the only thing holding up his transfer' is the same thing that's been holding it up for what feels like many transfer windows.

They won't give us what we want, they'll haggle, refuse to budge, we'll refuse to budge, then they'll take him on loan at the 11th hour.

Certainly the dullest transfer saga in many years.

Beggars can’t be choosers; and quite frankly as much as we aren’t in a facial position to get rid of him on the cheap, why waste everyone’s time when he isn’t wanted and takes up a vast amount of wages?

Get rid now, take this down as a lesson, and a huge loss - one that we’re already aware of - and move on.

I’ve always presumed that to be ITK you have to be one of two things, either working in or very close to the club or very close friends with an insider.

Bearing in mind the churn of club staff, it surely means that most such contacts will have limited lifespans.

Don't think it's unreasonable for us to ask them to pay 5m euros for someone who scored 17 goals in 25 appearances for them 2 years ago.

Indeed. I had a really good source a couple of years ago but sadly they've now left. I had itk glory for such a fleeting period.

Ings has two goals in the last two years and isn't fit. Have you learned nothing from Lallana this season?

He hasn't had playing time due to non-selection, but hasn't been injured/unavailable for much time at all since he left us for Villa.

Totally different scenario to Lallana IMO (although would be question marks over whether he could do Sat/Tues) - definitely a player who would be a class above in the Championship.

He's 33 and very obviously has fitness issues. Even if he doesn't, saying he's fully fit, has two goals in two years and can't get in the team even after Antonio's car accident is hardly a ringing endorsement.

He hasn't been a class above anything for years and if he hadn't been here before nobody would be advocating for his signature.

It used to be we'd attract players with the prospect of playing PL with us, to then move onto better things.

Now we attract players with the knowledge that we churn through so many managers, that one of them is bound to like the player, and they can move on to better things. 🙂
