MK Dons away I think it was.

Didn’t we lose that match ? I think Adkins may have been on the touchline, but the team and preparation had been by Dean Wilkins

I was partially correct:

You'd rather be investing in football, in the playing squad. So there will be up and down moments.

"My ask, simply sitting here, is to stay behind the manager because if we do want to keep the same face, managing the football club, we've got to stay behind that person through ups and downs"

The clear implication being that he was removed because the fans had all turned on him.

He was removed because he was pathetic, poor at communications, poor at coaching and a poor tactician.

According to the words of the chief exec that is not the case.

Had a dream where we hired Ralph, AA assisted downs with a through ball down the middle, downs ran onto it to slot in low hard shot across goal (good run, strength, and finish)... And then Ralph ran down the line in front of Jones celebrating before telling himself to calm down. Then woke up.... Knew it was too good to be true. But at least I was smiling about saints for a brief moment at least 🤣😢

Key point with all this, is that martin was an arrogant egotistical bell end for a fair portion of his time with Saints... Ralph got smashed 9-0 twice, had fair few other bad beats along the way, and some of his best football was played behind closed doors (and away from the fans) due to COVID... Yet a fairly large proportion of the fanbase would happily take him back. The same cannot be said for Martin, and he delivered us a Wembley final win...

That's true. Personality and liability of managers goes a long way. It's not solely performance.

It is amusing the fans baying for managers who have been sacked multiple times elsewhere for failing. Any manager we go for is a massive risk.

Im just gratefult that there was no social media, with people with the loudest voices but perhaps not the most intelligent at our board when Lawrie was our manager. They were very strong against tremendous provocation to keep him, the rest is history

Nearly all managers have failed elsewhere and have been sacked.

Honestly the argument for Tonda seems to be he's never failed or been sacked therefore he never will fail or be sacked.

May as well give the job to Lallana, or even Stephens and player-manager.

why not, eh!

Any new updates from the SFC nudge unit telling us how refreshed and determined everyone is, you know, with TE at the wheel?

Has any of the local journos reminded us of the tactical changes he made with the brilliant wins against championship heavyweight QPR and Sheff Weds?

Has Oriel been wheeled out to subtly tell us what it was like playing for Barcelona, to immediately shift to how impressed he is by TE?

Southampton interim manager Tonda Eckert's main tactical change has been introducing a clear, disciplined pressing structure and a focus on cohesive attacking movements, which has reportedly re-energised the squad.

Under previous manager Will Still, a criticism was a lack of focus on what substitutes should do, and a generally low mood. Eckert, by contrast, has implemented a simpler, more direct approach that emphasizes:

Renewed energy and collective standards: Eckert has re-established collective standards and improved morale in a squad that had lost direction.

Detailed positioning: He has reportedly given specific instructions, particularly to central midfielders, which has allowed wide players like Tom Fellows and Ryan Manning to get into more attacking positions.

Less in-match disruption: Some observers have noted that Eckert makes fewer disruptive changes during matches, which may provide more consistency.

My worry with Gerrard , Carrick etc is it wouldn't be a squad thats necessarily suited them and I can't see much business being done in Jan , I went to the Preston game and to Sheff Wednesday and I thought Tonda showed an understanding of our squad , I'd add the caveat that it was against weak opposition but the shape of the the back 5 looked so much better , THB and Jack splitting way higher and wider , getting fellows into the starting 11 running at players ( roerslev is solid enough but not a wing back for me) . There a few people around me slagging Azaz but I thought it was the first time he looked like the playmaker he was at Boro , he did lose the ball a few times but he was going for the higher risk forward passes , I'd be happy for Tonda to stay for the rest of the season

I guess you mean QPR away?

That was awful, we've had loads of bad performances this year and that was another one of them, one of the worst for me. We didn't win that through any sort of tactical masterclass, we won that through luck and a bit of bodies thrown on the line at the end. But let's be frank, we should not be hanging on against QPR in the final stages of the game given the stature and value of our squad. Our lack of game management was simply horrific.

Sheffield Wednesday are a credit to their fans by how much effort they play with each game, lots of heart in that small squad - but they are so, so poor. They'll struggle in L1 with their current squad, let's not kid ourselves.

The acid test is the next 3. Charlton, Leicester and Millwall I think. It shouldn't be the acid test for Tonda though as we should have used this break to appoint an actual, you know, real life manager, but there we are.

I didn't see the the QPR game TBF, I went to the last Will Still game and the Wednesday at home last week and just recalling what I saw of the system under Eckert

Some good research, and fine that his short career to date has some relative success to it, and that in time he might make a good manager/head coach.

But question is whether he’s ready for the step up in a toxic club atmosphere. Doubt it myself, and not selecting him now is probably in his best interest long term. And ours.

I agree i have my doubts about the step up to soon, thus i mention someone like Rose who he has worked under before. But his work so far has been impressive and maybe he thinks he is ready?

He has already stepped up in a toxic atmosphere, and won 2 games back to back....not seen that in a long time! He been here for months immersed in this toxic place, so has a great insite on what the shite is realy about.

He has progressed the u21 and young players seem to be developing well under his coaching. Maybe Masterbates can give more insite into his coach abilities?

Does he want the top job or is he happy to go back to the u21 and continue his steady progression as a young coach? I too would hate to loose him.

To be fair the u21s were also doing well under Simon Rusk, it's not really an indication of how well you can adapt to managing a first XI squad (big difference to just being a coach)

Personally, I thought they were both shite.

If we had appointed an actual real life manager and failed the acid test would we have to sack them?

I don't know why, or why not.  That's why I asked.  why would fan advice make our next manager more or less likely to be LGBT+? Is it a reference to a particular manager? (Or lallana?)
