He's the perfect centre forward for this setup, fluid wide players and a mobile 10 - then this guy up top giving us that focal point. We look so fluid and it's built around how he holds the ball and moves the CB's around.

Kudos to the scouts and coaches for identifying exactly the profile of player we needed to compliment the rest of our squad. He wasn't the sexiest name when we got him, but he is everything we needed.

Top scorer in the championship, £30million please. No-one will pay what it would take for us to consider it given his age. More likely to go for Lankshear.

The combination of the sort of fee we'd ask for and the fact he turns 32 before the season ends makes me not worry about this too much (at the moment at least!)

Thought he made an interesting comment in the post-match interview about how he feels that the way the club has treated his family and taken care of things off the pitch has a lot to do with how he feels about his football right now and why he's in such good form

Is this the best form you've ever been in during your career?
Yeah, it's one of the best and I think it has to do with the team of players around me and the staff, they make me feel at home. Just off the pitch, the club has looked after me and my family so well. I think that is the most important thing for me because it means I am just able to perform and show exactly who I am on the pitch.

He’s been better than we could ever have hoped. Proper centre forward who as others have said is ideal for how we play. Yes a lot of people were underwhelmed when we signed him as there was nothing really to suggest he was going to be anything more than a squad player but he’s been superb. Just got to hope he stays fit as he is so important to how we play

I liked him from his first touch scoring against Watford - but I definitely had him down as just a good physical fit for us, to allow other players to play off him. He has got so much more to his game than I ever realised, he constantly does things that I didn’t know he could do.

I think it's fair enough given he hadn't shown this form previously and up until signing him we had a crap record if signing strikers. Absolute fair play to the club though unearthing a diamond.

Potentially the best start ever for a Saints forward?

One every other game, from now to the end of the season, would get him to Lambert's championship total.

But happy for him to stick with one per game and hit 46

Not sure on that. Didn’t he take one last season ? Leicester in the cup possibly. He scored but I think it was placed, rather than powered. Give me a Stewart, Lambert, MLT to blast it every time.

Has a bit of everything ,  but what’s the most impressive is he seems to have real instinct to take balls early whilst being accurate with it , he’s actually a  real fox in the box to go with his power and pace . As I said in my last post coukd see him outscoring lambert the way it’s going with azaz and scienza we have a scary attack

Yes, can't wait to see the Canadian Carillo firing them in against Watford on Saturday. 

 

He took about ten minutes against Watford to blow the Carillo comparison apart. And a few games into the season any Saganowski doubts are also dismissed.

Great thing is the type of goals and his contribution. Gets on the end of things, some headers, some great skill (Millwall and yesterday), pace (away v Wrexham last season), neat footwork (Ipswich), and a opportunists goal yesterday as well.

Just hope we can keep him fit.

Not really. Cyle Larin has been a great signing but if anyone is suggesting that our transfer logic in the striking department since then has left us with equal or better than the end of last season, they’re making things up.

I'm shocked he hasn't played at the really top level much in the past.  He's got everything a No.9 needs, he's quick, good in the air, can hold the ball up well, scores tap ins and long range efforts with both feet.  Lets hope he stays fit and firing for the season because if he does I think we'll go up.

Yeah, among many others I was worried he'd be a disaster but he proved me wrong with his very first touch in a Saints shirt and he's just got better and better. A real bonus signing to say the least.

What's "hilarious" about stating a fact that a player's performances were mediocre at best at their previous clubs..? Surely, being significantly underwhelmed at the signing was the most logical stance to take... Unless you're taking hindsight into account of course...?

On the flip side, I don't recall anyone predicting that Larin would become an overnight goal machine either...

I don’t remember how many others goals he got but at the start of the 86/87 season Colin Clarke scored two hatricks in his first 9 games on his debut v QPR and then v Newcastle shortly after joining from Bournemouth.
