You said we wouldn’t be relying on Stephens and Wood, which means somebody will be replacing THB as most people would have assumed. The fact that we’re after this German fella implies that one of the other three is also likely to be off, most likely JQ who doesn’t seem to be in Tonda’s plans, even for cup games.

He was generally playing as an AM or more attacking CM during that time. Regardless, hes a good passer of the ball and would do well with the increased space of the championship and the movement of our attacking players. Edited 7 hours ago by Saint86 1
St Chalet Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I'd take JWP back in a heart beat. Good solid pro and would rotate nicely with Jander like Shea did. 13
Pilchards Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If we are getting JWP back then you feel it would have been done weeks ago. Why the last days of the transfer window? Desperation perhaps as we can’t get others in maybe?
2Morrow Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago West Ham have been trying with limiited success to sell a large 'bomb squad' of players (Alvarez, Todibo, Fullkrug,JWP). They are now accepting loans and more favourable (for the buyers) terms, which i imagine we could have been waiting for. JWP is in the last year of a chunky wage, I would guess we want a loan on subsidised wages ahead of signing him on a free next summer - or a free transfer now if JWP wants the security of a multi year deal

Jury out on Fellows and Dobbin (though early days on that.) Balanced out by the excellent signings of Azaz, Scienza, Jander, Peretz and Larin. Overall more hits than missing but certainly not a flawless record. Honestly no club has a flawless record. If you're getting more than 50% right then you're doing pretty well. Especially if your failures are the cheap gambles Edited 7 hours ago by Ex Lion Tamer 3

He's in the final year of his contract, no premier league interest and his wages will be too high for most championship clubs. Closer that deadline gets, the less West Ham will accept. It's happened to us often enough.

qwertyell Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Don't think much of a speculated return of Ward-Prowse. He can't replace Charles' physicality - so that would leave us weaker, shorn of attributes we don't have in the middle of the park. He's as slow and immobile in transition as Bragg, so that's not really addressing anything either. And he's not as good as Jander or Downes in their respective roles. For the wages he demands, he wouldn't be joining a championship club to be a bench player. So what does he bring to the first XI - and is it good enough to compensate for the shortcomings that are baked in? Not for me. 8
ally_uk Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago In all honesty I'd rather we move on from JWP. I'd rather we spend money on a younger destroyer / leader type absolute shit house of a defensive midfielder. We are crying our for a bit of grit and bollocks in this team. What's JWP done since leaving saints? Fuck all...... 8

Yep if we’re replacing Shea Charles we should be getting a player with similar attributes rather than a crab.
hypochondriac Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I see that Villa may be losing out on that other centre back. I assume that means they will now actually pay close to what we want for THB. I am over it now and just want them to pay so that it's agreed and we can move on. Need the top replacement in as well as we are damaged by not having him or his replacement in the team. 1

Do open play goals count double compared to free kicks? Doesn't matter if a goal is from open play or a Ward-Prowse free kick. 1 1

THB clearly being told by agent not to play, best to move it on sharpish

The longer it drags on the worse it is for us. It sounds like THB's head is already out the door.

That would be a sensible point if you could guarantee or engineer a free kick in JWP territory. It may not happen in 90 mins, whereas the ball is in open play in every game.

WealdSaint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I can't make my mind up about JWP. My twopenny worth, is that teams might think twice about scything Scienza down all the time, if we had him back taking the free kicks 8
LGTL Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Unfortunately, ex club captains is the market we’re shopping in when a vast number of our targets don’t actually want to sign for us. For obvious reasons.

Manning has been pretty effective at direct fk so unless prowsey is going to play lb, a small potential upgrade on free kicks isn't worth having a highly paid past his best crab in midfield 1

Saint Matty 76 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Can’t see JWP not happening now with all this noise from Blackmore/Alfie. Comparisons to Lallana/Romeu/Walcott are utter stupidity. Still a player who is close to his prime who loves the club, not going to do much better than that on a loan deal. Downes/Bragg - Jander/JWP would be extremely strong. We also saw he can do a good job in the #10 position if we need any more depth there. I’m all for it and think he’s being criminally underrated as a Championship option. 14
hypochondriac Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The flip side is we need characters who have some feeling for the club and who want to win. JWP will know he isn't as universally loved as the last time he was here and will need to demonstrate his worth through his performances. Plus he hasn't scored any free kicks at all since leaving so still the chance to break the prem record with us... 2
