And yet again we find that a laughing emoji is a useful fallback when your stupidity has been clearly exposed.

I was going to try and compose a clear, evidenced post explaining how I actually applaud the original decision made by the Trump administration to ban bump stocks, that Biden supported the ban at the time despite his opposition to Trump in general, and that the SC ruling is thanks to Trump's own hand-picked judges and out of the hands of the current administration altogether.

But I realise now it would be completely futile, so I'm not going to bother.

In answer to the question in the thread title - this right here is what's wrong with America. People this stupid are allowed to vote, and own machine guns.

I am always bemused by the people claiming the Second Amendment cannot be challenged, the Eighteenth Amendment was repealed.

Yep, knew it. Anything good done by Trump = not done by Trump. Anything bad done by Biden, stitch up and lies by Trump. You guys are so childish and blind it is unreal.

The lunatic vote to throw out the ban on machine guns (that's what bump stocks turn semi-automatics into) was 6-3.

All 6 fascists on the Supreme Court voted to allow machine guns in the hands of mass killers: 3 were appointed by your hero Trump, with other 3 appointed by other Republicans.

The 3 sane ones who voted, sadly in vain, to uphold the ban were appointed by Democrats: 2 were appointed by Obama (Biden was his Vice President at that time), and the other by Biden himself.

So who exactly is childish and blind?

Old and past being president yes, senile no. Absolutely incredible that he's put up for a second term. He had a chance to put the boot into Trump last night but was just too decrepit to do so . The bit where his sentence tailed off and Trump said that he didn't know what he'd said and that Biden didn't know either, summed it up. He was an embarrassment, and having him in the running is pretty much giving Trump a free pass.

There wasn't anyone credible enough to get the ball rolling and start a campaign to remove him. If there was, it's very hard to successfully remove an incumbent since he's still functioning.... and political suicide if you were to fail. Way too late for that now anyway, we'll just keep sweating until November.

I don't buy that. The USA has a population of 340m people. Amongst that lot there'll be a democrat more able than Biden.

I'd be more able than Biden and so would you. Unfortunately no politician with their eye on 2028 wanted to risk it.

That's a sad state of affairs - essentially allowing Trump another term in this climate for personal ambition in 2028.

Honestly to me it's more on the people around him not being willing to have the tough conversation with him.

Blimey... just watched the US 'debate'... surely Biden isn't fit to continue after that? Not a partisan view, rather just showing concern for someone's welfare and who clearly isn't fit for the job.

Gavin Newsom?

Only seen a few interviews with him but has come across really well.

We can all see how much energy, focus and resilience it takes to run a relentless campaign. It takes a cumulative toll on everyone involved. The thought of Biden deteriorating more isn't pleasant. If he's currently fatigued, god knows what they'll do to prop him up.

No shortage of others with their eye on the job. But, as mentioned above, the timing, the optics of a change mid stream, the polls all count. Behind that, they will look at their own careers and want to pick the best time. And then there's all the in-fighting and maneuvering to pick a replacement. That's a key reason Biden was up again. Not necessarily the best, but the one they could agree on.

That's going to take time and look ugly, handing even more to the Republicans.

Officers respond to a domestic, arrest a suspect, handcuff him, body search him, and sit him in the back of their patrol car. Then, as one Policeman walks back to the patrol car.......an acorn drops on it's roof;

3 and a half years later and they still can't decide which court to put Donny in for interfering with the election result.  That is what's wrong with America.

Most of his acts of incitement are now moot as he was apparently acting in his official capacity in claiming fraud, and most of the evidence against him is ruled out as it is communications created by him acting as President. So much for an independent Judiciary.

Florida about to be battered by the worst storm in 100 years. A few people refusing to leave as god will keep them safe. Climate change being blamed for the storm, can they just ask god to sort it for them?

They haven't yet realised that the USA is a God-less country.

Trump such a cunt - sending in National Guard to LA with no consultation. Just a dangerous showman who always needs to have an enemy. Foreign Office should issue warnings not to visit this shithole country

Don't look at the economy or the Epstein files, look over there at the National Guard!

Or at the Ukraine war where Putin has run rings around him nor his inevitable very public falling out with Musk. Easier to energise his ‘base’ as a Hail Mary ahead of the mid-terms on immigration, but I’ve a feeling the country will fight back further against him and LA is just the start. Could be an angry summer over there.

Taking aim and deliberately shooting journalists with rubber bullets, handcuffing film crews to stop them working, arresting the accredited media and detaining them without charge, violently targeting reporters so that what is happening cannot be shown.

Is this China? North Korea? Russia?

No, welcome to America 2025, land of the free.

Gavin Newsom, the California governor, isn't holding his words. Now calling the Trump government what it is  - Authoritarian.

'In an address to Californians on Tuesday night, California Governor Gavin Newsom blasted Trump’s use of military force as a “brazen abuse of power”.

“That’s when the downward spiral began. He doubled down on his dangerous National Guard deployment by fanning the flames even harder, and the president – he did it on purpose,” Newsom said.

Newsom, who has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s deployment of troops against his wishes, said the president had unleashed a “military dragnet” targeting “dishwashers, gardeners, day labourers and seamstresses” rather than violent criminals.

“That’s just weakness – weakness masquerading as strength. Donald Trump’s government isn’t protecting our communities, they’re traumatising communities, and that seems to be the entire point,” Newsom said. “California will keep fighting.”

“If some of us can be snatched off the streets without a warrant, based only on suspicion or skin colour, then none of us are safe,” he added.

“Authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able to defend themselves. But they do not stop there.”

I was in Pacific Palisades and Malibu a couple of weeks ago. Newsom and Bass did a better job of "Fanning the flames" than Trump ever has. Trump warned them of the fire threat years ago. Sad to see the homes burnt to the ground, yet to be rebuilt and talking to those living in rented accomodation, while they wait for their homes to be rebuilt in 3-4 years time. These two morons are trying their best to turn a former paradise into a third world shithole. Go to Mexico and see what's coming for California if these two remain in power. Luckily New York and San Francisco are pulling back. They had to. Homeless drug addicts shooting up and shitting on the streets and refusing shelter so they can continue to use drugs? No wonder Trump got voted in.
