ALWAYS_SFC Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 The whistle went for another split-second earlier offence. Nothing to do with Jrod. There was no offence, that is the point even the taters could see nothing on replay
Micky Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of there, in fact very proud of them all, played really really well, just didn't get the breaks. Fans sounded awesome as well - well done.
IronCitySaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Very frustrating night. Saints were by far the better team but lack of ability to put the ball in the net is really going to hurt us. Seems strange to say it when we played one of the most famous teams in Europe in their own stadium, but Saints really should have won that game. Inter had one shot on goal and that was all they needed. It was a lesson in finishing.
Mattio Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 gutted, should have scored at least 3 chances in the 2nd half but good performance at least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
saintadam Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Hard to accept that result. Inter was **** and we outplayed them for great parts of the game. Would have loved seeing redmond today, think that would make the difference for us..

sfc1976 Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Pretty ridiculous result. J Rod has more rust than a barbecue set in January.
Saint_Tony Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Massive missed opportunity, a draw would have been fine. We really need 2 wins to make sure of qualification, group is very tight now. If we do qualify, a new striker has to be top of the January shopping list Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
saintadam Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 U gotta hate Italian teams. World champions in time-wasting and winning free kicks..
sotonjoe Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Might have won if we hadn't started an out of form jay rod over an in form Austin. Given the game was there for the taking, that is an awful result and a real kick in the teeth for the travelling fans. Very ****ed off.
SuperSAINT Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 It feels like losing a home game to a jammy away team. We've come along way to be disappointed we didn't beat Inter. Need to start taking these damn chances.
Lukee Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Really frustrating game but impossible to ignore positives, absolutely controlled the game against a strong team. So many chances that on another night would've gone in, didn't take our chances but a few decisions didn't go our way too. Romeu immense, defense so solid and Boufal looks decent. Not short of chances, just short of goals.
Saint86 Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 We are of course all disappointing. But we need to all except that this is part of the club and the players learning, growing and developing. They showed respect to a team that in England we'd have comfortably beaten 3-0, just because of reputation. We will still get out of the group. No worries on that. Inter probably wont. Meanwhile the players did us proud and did enough to win. Some very suspect and biased reffing and some unlucky shot taking and good keeping. For me, James Ward Prowse was superb tonight. Really starting to develop into a central midfielder with great passing, technique and creativity. Mcqueen was not out of his depth, boufal showed some nice touches... even yoshida had a good game (
BotleySaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 U gotta hate Italian teams. World champions in time-wasting and winning free kicks.. This. They played all the tricks.
Joneth Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 I'm not going to moan about that performance, apart from the middle 20 minutes of the 2nd half we were superb. We created so many chances, on another day we could have had 4 or 5. Gutting to not get anything from it but still brilliant to see the level we are at nowadays.
DT Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Jay Rod must be amazing in training. Or have a body double Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
austsaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Smash and grab job by the locals. How many chances did we have that on another night would have resulted in a comfortable win. We look to be short of a good striker; Romeu excellent but had too much to do with Hojbjerg having a poor game and JWP neat and tidy but nothing more. Both full backs heavily involved and it was good to see Boufal up and running. A cruel defeat.
Jimmy_D Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Utterly battered them. How we lost that will remain one of football's great mysteries.
Mallagroth Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 (edited) That's Europe cup games for ya. Our weakness is finishing we all know that, its been done to death. 1 shot on target and one goal by Inter. We brought our game, yes we've been better and more incisive but that's not to say we didn't play well. 1 shot on target and 1 goal, that will happen to us a few more times this season, because the nature of what we have which is great technical players but overall our finishing isn't our strong point. Shame we couldn't capitalise on being the better team but that's the rub when you play the world class teams. Look at English clubs record at San Siro, it isn't an unexpected result but chalk it as a missed opportunity. Mc Queen well impressed, looks like he's been doing it forever, made the right forward moves at the right moments, covered defensively when he needed too. Think Targett needs to be a little concerned. Van Dijk sounds gutted. Hojberg killed himself in first half and should have been replaced earlier but that's just my opinon and i'm obviously nowhere near as qualified as Puel to make that call. qwertyell Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Three blanks in our last four games, in spite of creating the majority of chances. The lack of real quality up front is hurting us. Long has reverted to the garbage level he's played most of his career at. Rodriguez is a sad shadow of the player he was two years ago. Austin's not fit enough to complete one let alone three games in a week. It's a shame. Our general play is pretty good. Nice to see Boufal get on. He looked miles off the pace, but at least he's an option now. Hey ho... Sent from my VF-895N using Tapatalk
verlaine1979 Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Only saw one replay of the JRod header, but it definitely sounded like the whistle went so early it was for something happening elsewhere in the box. Pretty dispiriting result - played well without really carving them open and then got suckered by an irritatingly good finish that put the technique of our strikers into sharp relief. In a way it felt like Inter were England and we were the Eastern European minnow that plays well for 90 minutes of a Wembley qualifier and then gets done by one moment of quality.
Bewildered Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Disappointing as we had enough chances we would have humiliated them with better finishing.
St Marco Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 I thought we played very well in periods and didn't deserve to lose at all. We created a lot of chances but as seems to be our problem we can't stick them away. Or they fall to players who imo are pretty bad at shooting overall. I think the club can be proud of their performance and showed one of the giants of football we can actually play. That said I think we really lack a creative central attacking midfielder. Someone who can create a killer pass and score some goals. Jwp shouldn't be near the first team. The corner at the end is in-forgivable. If that was anyone else they would have been slated. When we have just come close to scoring from a few corners/balls into the box why oh ****ing why did you decide to short corner, run all the way with the ball across the pitch and then pass it back to Martina....That is up there with the most stupidest things we have ever done. Add to that he could be partially blamed for their goal by not tracking their guy back. Back to the positives and I thought Sam and Romeu played very well. Romeu has come on loads this season and it's great to see. Yoshida and VVD did pretty good and limited how many shots they had. Jay Rod looks to have lost a lot of pace though which is sad to see.
dronskisaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Proud of the team and the support - outplayed Inter at the San Siro and lost to their only shot on target. Sure it didn't run for us tonight but we have the class to push on and win the home games. We are good
James Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Should never have started with JRod. Disallowed goal aside he was dreadful. Too many changes from Puel for me when we likely lose to City in any event. Good performance and should have won but a lot of what ifs given our best striker started on the bench. Still, nothing the manager can do about all those missed chances. Onto the next!
geoffnut Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Missed chances again and again, same old story.

Saint Benali Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 For me, James Ward Prowse was superb tonight. Really starting to develop into a central midfielder with great passing, technique and creativity. ( I thought the opposite to be fair. Always passed to the sides or backwards. When we had everyone forward and we were by the penalty box he lumped it all the way back to the half way line. And let's not even mention that corner if you can call it that. Shows it is a game of opinions really.

mrfahaji Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 I'm sat in the san siro trying to remind myself that before the game I said that the result wasn't the be all and end all, but having dominated the first half (felt like Inter barely touched the ball first 40 mins), im feeling absolutely gutted that we haven't been able to celebrate a goal. Not scoring when we had chances gave them a chance to figure out a game plan at HT, and in fairness to them, they got it right.Close down the full backs and force us back inside, and we ran out of ideas. Seems that it works better for us NOT to play well first half!

woodsaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 That is a really poor Inter team and they still beat us. It wasn't a good performance from us but they are that bad we still created a number of clear chances. So wasteful but movement in the final third was too slow aswell. Sad to say but JRod is nowhere near good enough anymore. Martina is not europa league standard either.

Greenridge Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 There was no offence, that is the point even the taters could see nothing on replay It was for Austin's shirt pulling. Jenas missed it too so probably a good job he's commentator not a ref.

doddisalegend Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Pelle and Mane would have scored tonight. nah to close to Christmas both of them only liked scoring between August-September and April-May in a saints shirt....
OttawaSaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Pelle and Mane would have scored tonight. Liverpool didn't qualify and Chinese teams aren't allowed. Hope that helps you.
simo Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Anyone else suspicious of the fact José has played no Europa league football?
VectisSaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Good performance except in front of goal, though the Inter keeper made some great saves. Shame we got to play them when they decided they needed a result, that was not the Inter that played in the previous two group games, they weren't brilliant but they were much better organised and had a determination to at least not lose. One piece of finishing quality was all they needed (it was ever thus in Italy). Still, as far as qualification goes it doesn't matter. We should get 6 points from our 2 home games and that will be enough, but will need to get something in Prague to win the group (which has to be the aim). Back to full strength in 2 weeks should see us get the points at SMS.
OttawaSaint Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 The European competition really brings the best (worst) out of our resident trolls, all vying to become the biggest most compete bellend on the forum...
Disco Stu Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 1-0 down, deep into extra time. We win a corner. A free cross into the box. We have Ward-Prowse, a fanastic crosser of the ball. We have Virgil Van Dijk, Charlie Austin, Maya Yoshida, Oriol Romeu all in the box ready to attack the ball. What do we do? Play a short ball, quickly lose it so everybody has to run back and Inter hold it up in our corner. Unnacceptable.
Saints foreva Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 The better side lost but at the end of the day you have to take your chances. We are so ****ing frustrating in front of goal. VVD didn't have the best of games, at fault for the goal - he's switched off. If he's tight then he has a good chance of blocking that shot and then misses an absolute sitter. Not seen Rod's goal back but didn't see much wrong with it, thought overall the referee was a ****. Inter got so many soft fouls and we got **** all. I'd really like to see us play our strongest side against them at St. Mary's, this group is wide open now and being eliminated from such a poor group would be a massive disappointment.
Micky Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Pelle and Mane would have scored tonight. So might've Davies, Channon, Keegan, Beattie or Lambert but they don't play for us anymore either. Move on ffs, support the lads who put a damn good shift in for the team tonight.

hackedoff Posted 20 October, 2016 Posted 20 October, 2016 Gutted, should have won that, need to learn from the experience. Need learn from selling our two top goalscorers from last season and not replacing suitably.
