£40M for a teenager is excellent. Bags of potential, but still enough time in his career to screw it up like many other young English talents.

To be honest, am ok with this. It's how we re-invest the fee that is now going to define our season.

Good luck to the lad, hope it works out for him. The fee seems reasonable, especially if there’s a sell on clause, he’s still got a lot to prove in order to justify it. Hopefully a modest chunk of it can go towards a decent creative midfielder.
 

On a separate note, I think we can put to bed the discussion as to whether a young player is better off at a club like Saints or Chelsea. Jimmy Jay Morgan was last seen on loan at Gillingham.

Really quite ambivalent about him going.  Huge potential but still very much a work in progress and hasn't shone dor Saints in some time.

I actually think, right now, Robinson looks the better prospect.

That being said, I'd rather have Dibling than the useless twats BbD, archer or armstrong in that position.

We benefited financially from his return from Chelsea, and also in watching him in the first half of last season.

it reflects well on the club, and it's development of youngsters, to see another talent move on.

That said, it's disappointing that his development couldn't continue with us at a higher level, before moving on to an even bigger destination.

I hope he achieves his potential for his sake (not for Everton's) and while we lose another prospect, at this moment in time I'm happier with the pure profit... so long as we invest it in the first team. Money in the bank does nobody a favour... except SR of course, and that would just confirm what we mostly all already think of them.

Thanks Tyler, one of the only bright spots in a shit season. Huge gamble from Everton but that's not our problem.

Feels a bit like Theo Walcott to Arsenal. Went too early and never achieved his full potential. He made it as a decent footballer, but with better handling and attention to key aspects of his game like shooting, he might have been world class.

Walcott was 16, had played half a season of Championship football and was competing with Henry, Pires and Wiltord for a place.

Dibling is 19, has a full season at the top level and only needs to oust Dwight McNeil from the team. I think he’ll do okay.

However, that is a load of money for a player, who apart from a brief spell last season has done very little.

Don't think this is one of them, though - many fans ambivalent about it, probably because he had a purple patch of 2 or 3 games and has been bang average since. Towards the end of the season he was getting touted at 25m, so have to be happy with the deal.

I think he'll do ok, probably make a similar impact at Everton as Walcott did.

I am really not surprised at all if this is true. I said at the time i didn't believe he would leave Saints because i have a friend who is close to the Dibling family and everything he had heard had suggested he didn't want to leave. I have no idea what happened to change this? Bad advice? Saints wanting to sell? I have no idea but i do fear TD may just disappear and become one of those youngsters that never broke through.

Yes that was the story I saw in a couple of places.

If its not working out for the lad I really dont know what happens now unless Everton decide to send him out on loan and he comes back down south in January. But this isnt like last time with Chelsea, Everton have paid serious money for the boy, they'll be no contract torn up this time around.

If its true the people giving him advice are not acting in his best interests whatsoever.
