I don't think David Gold is doing anything nowadays unfortunately. If he's lucky enough to be getting stiff, it's likely due to the rigor mortis.

We seem unanimous against the signing of Holgate. Has that ever happened before on this forum 😅

I think there was widespread agreement about Carillo. In fact only two people at the club wanted it, the Clown manager and Ross Wilson.

These days £20m buys a decent Championship player and £30m buys someone fairly decent from Austria or Belgium. JWP has been playing PL football for a decade and is one of the worlds best free kick takers. He also counts towards the quota of home grown players and is always fit.

If Wan Bissaka is £50m, Maguire is £80m and Rice is over £100m then JWP is easily worth £40m.

Man Utd Tax and lets not forget how badly they have been run (idiots in their Transfer committee)

Will not edit but yes I got the dead david not the short david 😉

Easy error, Gold was frequently seen as the nice one in the West Ham organised crime pornographers partnership, Sullivan not so much.  A sad loss.

As others have said, he's worth £40m in today's market, surely?

Tinpot Hammers wanting discounted rates for prime talent. Laughable.

Then there would have been an offer of £40m. The market says he's currently worth £30m. To us, the board think he's worth £40m.

Thought i'd do a summary of our transfer dealings so far (sorry 😋) and consider it against the parachute payments and likely financial imapct vs the wage prem situation.

Sales so far (wages are assumed savings compared to prem levels)

Salisu = £15M and assume £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Orsic = £3M and assume £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Moi = Assume £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Theo = Assume £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Diallo = Assume a nominal £2M fee and £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Willy and Liz = assume £50k/w (2.6M/year) between them.

Assumed transfer subtotal =  £20M

Assumed wage saving per year =  £15.6M

We know Lavia is going to go for minimum £45M and assume £50k/w (2.6M/year)

Assumed transfer subtotal =  £65M

Assumed wage saving per year =  £18.2M

Likely we see sales of multiple players from the following bracket:

Bednarek - £10M?

DCC - £7M?

Lyanco - _£7M?

ABK - £20M?

Aribo - £5M?

Onuachu - Nominal load fee and wages (assume £50k/w or 2.6M/year)

Adams - 10M?

Djenpo - £7M

Lets assume we bank about another £35M from that lot - Say Adams, Bednarek, DCC, Lyanco, and about £15M in wage savings - including Onuachu).

Assumed transfer subtotal =  £100M

Assumed wage saving per year =  £33.2M

We'll also bank circa £50M in parachute payments in the first year, plus there is the new championship TV deal for which we seem to be quite popular.

So in total, yearly savings of around £185M, spend to date of £12M, which totals out as CIRCA £170M for the year currently. Obviously this ignores balancing the wage bill longer term vs the reducing parachute payments.

Note, this also excludes a relegation wage clause being in most of our players' contracts, whereas i guess(?) i could probably knock off another 20% of remaining wages and still be conservative on that front? Although against this we will have outstanding transfer payments on previous buys i guess.

I can't remember what the predicted shortfall was in predicted as part of relegation? But i would imagine that with the Lavia sale (and assuming medium success in shifting some of the bloat as above) that we should be in a fairly solid spot?

The two other possible sales are JWP  for at least £35M and £100K per week (5.2M/year), and Tino, for whom i guess we'd bank £15M-20M plus wages. But i think the above highlights that we probably do only need to make one major sale from a financial perspective?

So in total, yearly savings of around £230M, spend to date of £12M, which totals out as +£208M for the year currently.

Good summary S86, but no way they are selling Livramento for £15-20m, not on Wilcox's watch.

You have to consider the installments we owe selling clubs for the likes of Orsic, DCC, Onuachu etc.

We will probably still be paying out more to those clubs than we will recoup from the sales because the likes of Orsic, DCC are being sold at a loss and Onuachu will be a substantial loss or a loan.

Don't disagree, but offset somewhat by the fact we'll have relegation wage clauses in our other players and i also have no idea how those are structured. Onuachu was a mental buy at £18M sadly. But DCC was only £8M(?) so cant see that we'll lose badly on him?

Will be interesting to see what happens at centre back, if we say now we have ABK, Bednarek, Stephens and Lyanco with Charles able to cover and Awe on the way.

Pretty obvious ABK will go if a suitable bid comes in and assume we will try to find someone to take Lyanco even if on loan.

Bednarek and Stephens seem likely to stay, Charles/Awe would be 4th/5th choice so would leave a space for one signing to really compete for a starting spot with JB and JS.

Haven't really been any strong links in this position and I guess we need to ship out ABK and/or Lyanco before there is really a space for anyone else, but will be interesting to see if we opt for a young player like Edwards or go with more experience like Holgate - especially as we have a young keeper and rookie #6 in Charles.

I thought we wanted £50m ?

I think it was reported somewhere in the last week that in the negotiation that Saints made clear that £40m in guaranteed money was a non-negotiable and then asked for add-ons to push the price up towards the £50m valuation.

If LFC put across an offer of £45m where £40m of it is guaranteed, I think we’ll accept and let him have his move.

The tweet only makes sense if the offer is £40m with a further £10m in add ons, judging by him saying it "meets our expectations".

Either way, wouldn't mind this being done ASAP.

Actually, unless it means that we're getting the £40m ourselves. Not including the 20% of the £50m fee which would go to City.

Thought City could buy him next summer for £40m. In which case, providing there isn't a VVD sulk around the corner, might as well keep him to help us get promotion, which outweighs the £now. (Especially if it stops him going to Liverpool).

I have no idea what is being discussed here, but am a little concerned about a 'Bluey' and whether she 'got 18 lollies'.

We're not past the watershed yet!

Not wanting to muddy the waters further, but it's actually 'Muffin' wanting the 18 lollies.

And yes, she got them. 😄

A player is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for him, which I believe will be around £40-50m when all add ons are included.

Not a great fee, I thought £8m was cheap when we bought him but we have somehow managed to only get half of that back.

How Does Player Amortisation Work?

Player amortisation enables the club from splitting the cost of the operation on several years to come, based on the length of the contract.

So let’s say that ‘Club A’ signed a ‘Player X’ for a total sum of £50m and offered him a five-year contract, the transfer fee will be divided into five installments for accounting purposes. So the balance sheet of the first year will show that ‘Club A’ spent £10m in transfer fees on ‘Player X’, in the particular year.

Quite a low fee. Must be pretty desperate to get rid?

Assume he had sizeable wages. It’s mad he was nearly signing for Liverpool for a big fee a couple of years ago when they had a CB crisis. Now he’s worth €5m.

It was 8€m I think, so after amortisation it probably appeases our balance sheets, although I do prefer the more normal style of accounting

We lost €3m overall, but considering we’ve saved wages etc and he seemed pretty incompatible with RMs tactics im not too worried

So won’t show as much of a loss on our accounts but still not a great investment. Felt like a bargain price, as did Orsic. Alongside Onuachu some really poor buys.

A €3m loan fee for a player like that for a season is not unheard of and not an enormous loss really. I’m just glad he’s gone personally, I’ll always remember him for getting completely mugged off by a struggling League 2 striker (and the bizarre attempts to defend his actions by a few).

One day his tombstone shall read, "Here lies Duje Caleta Car. So good they brought back Bednarek."

Selling him for £40M makes little sense tbh. Keep him and we get promoted and then still get to sell him for a minimum of £30M next summer...
