Even the easy victories were pretty tedious, even when we banged a few in,the 28 passes between the back 4 & keeper that preceded it were draining. I’ve seen 3 promotions from the 2nd tier & that was far and away the most boring. Even this great unbeaten run of Lego’s was boring on the whole. Contrast that with last seasons end of season run, different gravy that was. It was a lot more fun than the season that followed. 3

Don't you remember 5-3 Huddersfield, 4-4 Norwich, 5-0 Swansea plus getting smashed by Sunderland and Leicester by 5ers! I'm no Martin fan , an utter disaster in the Prem , way too dogmatic and egotistical, but there is a lot of revisionism on here regarding him. Imo the Championship season was fun and I have great memories of that season. I think he'd be decent at a big club like Leicester down in L1. Did I say all of his games were boring??? - I didn't Most of his games were boring and that isn't revisionist - it's an opinion many people aired at the time. He also succeeded in getting us to 4th in the championship with a top 3 squad - again many people said as much at the time. Let's not be revisionist about it he achieved the minimum and a lot of the football was tedious, especially in the famous unbeaten run, but there were some brilliant moments too. 7

Exactly ...season before 23/24 , 25pts....season after 23/24, 12 points....that's tedium in my book. I couldn't give a shite what style we play , I just like Saints winning games personally...makes my weekend a whole lot better.

They will dominate a lot of games which is when his football is more effective. He may even have a chance of performing will in the Championship if they get a bit of momentum. Longer term it fucks up the club though. The likes of THB and manning for us have taken ages to recover from what they were 'taught' under Martin. I'd never want to be go back to football like that again. RM will do well, probably top 2. A lot of teams play this possession football now with 800 passes and relying on gaps and mistakes by opponents to get through defence. It means you dont need to find decent creative players and just consistent players in certain positions. Lot lot of boring football these days and in Europe plus we will see it during World Cup. Even Burnley fans complain all season when they got promoted.
SaintsBarry74 Posted Thursday at 20:26 Posted Thursday at 20:26 Best that could come from this is that he takes Bazunu with him. We nearly bottled promotion in that two-horse-race of a season were it not for Baz' injury. 1
Chez Posted yesterday at 13:17 Posted yesterday at 13:17 (edited) Now is the time for us to make a half decent offer for Olabade Aluko and include Baz as part of the deal. Edited yesterday at 13:17 by Chez

Mustang Saint Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Just had a quick look on the foxes forum, don't think I've ever seem a thread wanting the manager out before he's even been announced, started it a week ago 🤣

AlexLaw76 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago They will finish top 2 fairly comfortably, and play some good football along the way given they will have a much better squad than about 22 other teams

If he can get them onboard to play in league one or offload (but who will want them). They were a disgrace last season some of their players. Also they are in financial world of shite and the wages above do not help. I listen to the 2nd Tier podcast it is really worth a listen and they do not have much confidence in them bouncing back. But of course they will not be talking about them anymore! It will be a fascinating watch for sure. 👍

AlexLaw76 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Right, RM bingo Love the players They are incredibly brave They trained like beasts in the week I'd rather lose my way than compromise my beliefs We need to be incredibly humble and suffer together
TheAlehouseBrawlers Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I think he'll do alright there, similar to how he did for us in the promotion season. Surely he must have learnt and moved on from us and Rangers and moved on from the dull, pointless passing for the sake of it......? Even if he hasn't Leicester should have too much for L1 sides. But you can't ignore the long unbeaten run and he got us up. You also can't ignore, despite all that, some tedious football, losing LC first round at Gillingham in a shocking performance, thrashed at Sunderland and so poor home to Leicester soon after. Superb first halves away at Swansea and Cardiff then shockers after the break. Then later in the season the home games against Hull, Millwall and Stoke were shockingly bad and the away at Blackburn and...of course...Leicester again were as bad as it got. Maybe they should quickly ditch him if he gets them promoted. 1

chivvy Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) Good luck to him. He has to rebuild his reputation and by going Leicester he can do that as big fish. He has to learn that you can't pass your way to success and sometimes it has to go direct quicker. You can't knock him for getting us promoted. Great day out at wembley. He right royally fucked up in the prem trying to play to much tippy happy football but he wasn't given the best squad. Think he was very naive. But I wish him luck now. . I'd like to be positive, but you just don't know how it will turn out. He will work on that scar tissue, and will have a decent team spirit. But the club will be looking to offload players, and plenty will be looking to go anyway. You've got the talent to overcome other teams, both following and in spite of his tactics. But it depends who you have left. He has improved the standings of clubs, although in spells and often without achieving final goal. Against teams that set up a certain way, RussBall is great to watch. It's just all those other teams, who set up to defend or press. Having control of games can be nice. But the endless reset after every move, when you could be dominating is frustrating. Getting in Will Smallbone might not look like a marquee signing, but will make a difference. Edit: And although his press conferences have no bearing on the game you've just seen, you can always ignore them. He's been like that since he was a player. Edited 6 hours ago by Holmes_and_Watson
