Adams probably wants a "fresh start" somewhere but I don't see him as a "down tools", or shop window type.    He's always looked at his best when supporting a main striker with his strength and hold up play - Danny Ings being the obvious example.   Has scored impressive goals in the Prem - two against Man City come readily to mind, but as you suggest, long goal droughts have inevitably followed.    Given the system Martin employs and the lack of a main striker at the Club since Ings, Adams was always going to struggle for goals and consistency, though in a different set up at Championship or even lower Prem level he still has something to offer.

Agree with this. Can't say I've noticed that he's trying any less than previous seasons.

It's obvious we need to bring in another striker given the news about Ross. Hopefully Ings is top of our list.

Given this news on Stewart, I think I've changed my mind on ings now. Fine to get him in to supplement what we have but we can't really be relying on him as a regular striker. I suppose if we get this goalscoring winger in that it might be OK but otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

According to Tanswell we are after a right winger and another player on loan (guessing a striker).

I'd still like to see us bring in a left back as well but think the top end of the pitch is more important.

Bree, KWP and Meghoma all can play left back so can Johnson if we get him.

How many transfer windows is that now that we've failed to appoint an accomplished and/or prolific striker? Surely the powers-that-be won't cock up yet another window in that regard...?

We need another 9/10 transfer window

The reality is we DO NOT have a war chest for January and even IF we did we would have to sell first to stay within financial fair play rules!

For those with short memories we were fed crap at the end of last season when all these stories appeared saying we were financially sound and did not have to sell any of our players. The complete opposite was true and the cost of relegation was huge, we had gambled with the likes of Tall Paul, we had gambled with that nut job Nathan Jones, the club lost millions and was still paying Ralph!!

We have taken more risks with Sully, Stewart and Alcaraz...........Stewart we all know has now backfired and the other two I personally think have been woeful although i still hold hope they might come good.

The reality is we need someone to come in for Che to get rid of his wages and a small transfer fee that will allow us to pay a decent loan fee for some out of favour striker.

I still think we need a winger/ AM that can actually score and assist!

I imagine we are looking at a loan. Maybe £1m or so in wages. I’m not persuaded we are so broke that such a cost is beyond us.

Shame about the news about Stewart...

Ings, Miovski or Ben Bereton Diaz

One of the above will do + a attacking creative wide player 👏

Bereton Diaz on loan is a good shout.

Edit - Just seen he hasn't scored this season though.

Was a big risk buying Stewart. Mean recovery time for elite basketball players with the injury is 10 months and around a fifth don't return at all, the others tend to have reduced performance even if they make it back. Might be a better performance prognosis for footballers, but who knows?

With one Scottish striker likely leaving during the window and another out injured for the forseeable, I'd look to another to bring us some much needed goals.

Lawrence Shankland - 15 goals for Hearts this season and scored for Scotland too. Been linked with Rangers and a few other clubs. A better option than Miovski who we've been linked with. 28 which might put some off but it wouldnt cost us too much. Plus, our record of signings from the Scottish premier hasnt been too shabby

Fantasy signings in Jan - strengthen the spine. Ronnie Edwards, Jordan James, Bojan Miovski. Bosh.

I do hope the club has one eye on next season as a Championship team should the worst happen and we don’t go up this season. This league would be weaker next season and, if we don’t go up, we need to smash it.

Johnson of whufc im not sure would go from their bench to our bench here. Especially seeing whats happened to Holgate.
Rather we put Meghoma on the bench if that’s the case.

Having said that we are just one more injury away from not having a specialist fb. If Bree is bad injured and something happens to kwp or Manning Boxing Day it’s play Meg or Holgate …and that starts to look less strong- though I personally would be ok letting Meg out in a few matches now.
We used to play JWP at FB in extremis but it weakened us overall.

PS. Cannot recall but have we played 3 centre backs this season? In absence if real fb’s that may be an in pitch tactical necessity. Pushing either RM or KWP Into the MF ( assuming JB is injured).

What's going on with Small and Larios?

Larios is very injured and Small does not always start in Scotland (st mirren I think) so neither in level of form required

Well, Stephens has done a job for us at both right and left back in the Prem. He'd probably be more than capable at this level.

It would mean Simeu getting on the bench I imagine!

We need a Billy Sharp jan signing to spearhead our push

Larios is the great mystery. Last heard, he was injured (again) in September and was back in Spain recovering.

Noone has seen, nor heard about him publicly since.

Small is never going to be good enough. Ego far outweighs the talent there.

Simeu is a long way off featuring for anyone. Suffered a nasty achilles injury in the summer (just before a loan move away) that was set to keep him out for the majority of the season.

Shame about Larios - but I remember seeing him play for us and thinking he'd snap in half if someone tackled him. He did not look like he had the stature for English pro football, not sure he ever will.

He'll make a career for himself in the lower leagues in Spain I reckon.

Hoping he can take his chance here! would rather have mara vs che, he is young and very talented, much higher cieling if he can live up to his potential.

I've seen a few more positive signs from Mara lately but until he learns to use his body more/better then he'll never be effective as a lone striker, it's far too easy to get the ball off him at present.

Why would we get a loan of an afcon player ie Ahmed Diallo?
He’s obviously a talent fits all our criteria and all boxes ticked but he cannot play if he’s at Afcon .

Taking him in for three months stops AMO from getting any end of season chance to show what he’s got ( and Sam and Kameldeen maybe even Charlie gets sacrificed also if he joins btw) and all those are zero cost to Saints I might add. On a permanent is a different matter - he’s our type alright ( but why did we let Nathan go in which case as they have some attributes in common) but there’s no way we are affording to buy him in Jan.

I was hoping dropping down a division might help SM get a foothold in English football but so far he’s managed one goal, in the 96th minute, against a team 2-0 down, with ten men, who were mentally already halfway back up the A34. No reasonable offer refused IMO.

U need a new bulb, ya been very dark recently! 🤪

Mara has had bit parts, and done ok. You thought he was coming as the finished artical? We are buying potential, takes pateience. ALA Charlie, edozie, baz etc.

Sounds like exactly the sort of signing Saints would make given the balls up we had with Stewart.

Finished article? The guy has done absolutely naff all in 18 months. I would expect the players with genuine potential to be taking the p*ss in this league. The likes of Bazunu, THB and Charles will need patience to become PL players, either with us or elsewhere, but they’re at least doing it at this level. Mara is not in that category, his only goal was a non-event in a game that was already over and he can’t seem to force his way into a team badly needing a decent striker.

I just dont get how you can say he is talented  ? Done didly squat since he has been here!  Che has not been great but  he is a different class to Mara to be honest.
