I cannot wait - a striker who is quick, tall and can score with both feet, we've not had one of those for god knows how long.

Of course he will take some time to get up to speed in matches but as he does i suspect he will still be better than our other forwards, will be interesting to see his link up play.

Whilst I would love to see him on the bench tonight, i guess its more likely we see him in the last scottish outpost in england, St Marys.

According to trip advisor the 15th best thing to do in Preston is visit Preston train station. 3 places below it is a visit to Deepdale. Is this because train spotting in Preston is more fun than watching soccerball?

If you’re at a loose end before the game why not visit Preston bus station? The 27th most popular thing to do one above  Beer Brothers Brewery,

It's the quickest way out of the shit hole ;)

We’re expecting the new Thierry Henry by the looks of it, why do I think he’ll be more like Colin Henry?

Wednesday - 3100 Friday night on sky

Plymouth - 1600 sold out 12.30ko on sky

Sunderland - 1800 - 12.30 ko on sky

Boro - 2000

Stoke - 1500 - Tuesday night on sky

Hull - 2100

Preston - 1600 - Wednesday night on sky

Over 3300 miles

That’s a pretty ridiculous run in terms of travel. 3 of the next 5 are inside the M25, plus Coventry and Huddersfield.

Lots of tough trips and those numbers are even more impressive when you consider only two of the games were Saturday 3pm with the rest on sky.

3055 already sold out for Millwall, we'll easily sell out Watford and QPR as well.

Anyone know if you can buy tickets and pick them up in Preston? Mate is thinking of coming…

You'd like to think common sense they'd just let fans pay on the day with so many empty seats, worth giving Preston a call.

I do know if you buy a ticket and it doesn't arrive they can arrange for you to collect a duplicate at the away ground as I've done it already this season, hopefully they can sort something out.

Grateful if somebody could clarify the Sky Sports coverage tomorrow night. Normally I watch on NowTV, will this be possible this time?

Yep, it's showing up on the Now TV app as being available...

Preston Presser.....

  • No change to our preparation, even if after a last minute winner
  • players had an extra spring in their step.
  • Watch the game back and the lads can see how relentless they were in the last 30 mins
  • there will be changes in the next 2 games, for sure. Some enforced, som due to learning from the last 3 game week
  • It will be an interesting game. will be a good game
  • We chose to enjoy saturday in the moment, but our focus was immediately on the next game
  • many hours spend watching the hull game, both good and bad, to help the players as much as possible
  • we really enjoy it as staff
  • preston will be a different challenge, they play a different style
  • preparation for Preston started a week or 2 ago, it is a relentless league
  • we were really frustrated with 7 points from 9 and determined to go better
  • we will asses some of the players, a couple were carrying injuries so 3 games in a week may not be possible for all of them
  • this may be an opportunity for some of the players on the edges and it is on them to take it
  • we have had a consistent 11 to be fair, but the guys who came off the bench of Sat made a huge impact. More  so when watching the game back
  • consistency in the line up has made a difference but the fixture schedule, with international break hits all teams
  • we have a brilliant squad, and some of them have a chance to step up
  • KwP can literally play anywhere (bar CB), he could probably play No.10. He is having a huge impact at RB, and we will discuss with him for preston on where to play him
  • may tweak the shape. If we do, the players will be comfortable
  • KwP has been outstanding, and we have adapted the set up for him, he has a great understanding with Adam Armstrong and Will Smallbone
  • Adam Armstrong is the 2nd top scorer in the league yet he is personally really frustrated with how his season has gone as he expects to be much better
  • Adam has great attention to detail, his work rate is amazing, works so hard forward and back. His favourite role is No.9 but he just gives everything
  • We are constantly tweaking how to get the best out of him. he give great feedback to staff and challenges staff - amazing example to the team
  • We want the wide players to gamble more at the far post and not stick wide
  • we have not scored no where near the number of goals we should. we have huge talent in the final 3rd and the wingers should be scoring more
  • Fraser scored a great example by getting into the middle of the box, and the ball can find them
  • Sometimes the players can be too unselfish at times. It will come, as we should be scoring more goals
  • Kamaldeen, KwP and Carlos are all very frustrated, with Che and Adam, as they are very dangerous players. They are close and we will see this improve
  • Preston are a very athletic team and will get the ball forward more quickly than Hull and they are a very good side
  • Their management team are well drilled and we should be excited. The players who get opportunities need to take them and force their way into the team

In the context of the question posed, they are frustrated not to have scored more individually and as a team. They see the video's back and aware they need to be in different positions. Ryan Fraser was used as a good example of arriving in the right area in the box for that type of ball

Thanks. I agree with Martin it's been disappointing that we haven't scored more and I do expect more from some players. Sulemana, Alcaraz and Adams in particular.

It’s what Southampton FC Foundation is trying to do too.  Thanks for your support.

And if you think that the mental well-being of saints fans is not an issue try this:

Mate, I am a huge advocate of mental health. That men should talk about what they are feeling, allow themselves to feel vulnerability, and checking in with people around you. What you wrote however was a bunch of unsolicited, self congratulatory drivel.

As for the match, these are sort of the games you need to winning if you want automatic promotion. Against a decent team, but one that is not one of the big well resources teams. I would be okay with a point however if we play well.

Martin’s press conference suggests a couple of players will get their chance tomorrow and it’s down to them to take their chance.
Hopefully KWP stays on the right, he’s the best in the league at that position. It’s risky but I’d like to see Meghoma given a chance at LB.
Maybe this is Charles’ chance to start in the holding role.

Id play Bree personally and move kwp over

But it seems as though Martin doesn’t fancy him at all

Personally I’d rather play KWP right back and fill a hole at left back. Don’t see the logic of weakening two positions rather than one.

I see where you're coming from but IMO KWP is extremely effective on the left as well as the right. The way he can cut in and out would compliment Sully very well.

Reading between the lines from his presser I think Charlie may be given a rest but brought back for Birmingham. The same might be said of Stu.

What I think I got ( unspoken and only by inference) from the presser was that we lacked mental stamina second half v Rotherham and he wants fresh and fit minds in there to prevent a recurrence v Brum. Resting two of the mf who have been travelling and on international duty makes a certain kind of sense in that context. But it also means not necessarily picking our “ best” 11 to start v PNE. Of course I’m mind reading and may be totally wrong but it feels like a RM move.

If I’m right, there may be one change (or two) to the midfield starters - and obviously the replacement for RM.

Personally I’d keep KWP at RB and just introduce a specialist FB at LB- which for me is Bree not Holgate. Shuffling KWP to RB so he can go on those mazy runs and cut in is all well and good but on that side we have KS who is not as disciplined in defending the space as AA is on the right side to cover for those KWP runs. That’s makes it more expensive risk playing him at LB and I don’t see it worth doing.

Id further task Bree on mainly sitting in with KS on that LH side so he does NOT need to show anything attacking apart from ensuring that the LB position is tight and basically just give the ball to KS and clean up if / when KS loses possession. It’s a big responsibility but it removes need for Bree to consider himself a modern footballing playmaker full back  ( which I feel RM does consider himself to a degree) and more a trad conventional row z defender.

Might be wrong and he might go for continuity in the hope of resting players later second half if we doing well. That’s the beauty of football though, we can’t ever tell 100% what team he’s gonna put out and it gives us something to talk about!😇

The absolute priority is Win or worst case draw v PNE.

The performance they deliver v Brum, especially 2nd half is only a luxury consideration if we get this first result. I’ve just been trying to think a move or two ahead about it in context of the PNE match like in chess about it that’s all.

Thats fair. In my opinion though KWP isn’t as effective going forward as a LB, so we lose attacking threat from both sides if he moves there. Keep him RB and we still have that threat on his side.

More or less agree with that. Effective as he is at LB it is still unsettling for him and the players around him to keep chopping and changing. It's not all about individual ability it's equally important or even more so to have effective partnerships with the players around him.

At some point soon we will smash a side, can see it happening away from home, against a team willing to give up possession of the ball.... it could be tonight, but probably not until we have a number 9 to believe in.

Nah, we rarely make enough chances, more likely to get smashed again ourselves
