Guessing all these top European clubs weren't interested in the end then. I thought someone said it would rival the fee we got for Van Dijk a month or so ago.

Says something when our two best outfield players from last season end up at Everton & West Ham. We obviously hold them in higher regard than most of the clubs in the world.

Pretty much how I see it after getting over my initial anger, he doesn’t really fit the system as much as I thought he would, and if he wants out I guess take the money and move on

The squad should be enough to be promoted imo, especially when viewed against other teams at this level

I ‘guess’ the sales keep the wolves from the door and allow us a last crack of the whip next year if the worst happens

Still disappointing of course but this is what relegation gets you… shows how disastrous our last two prem campaigns have been

Gone are the days we lose are best assets to champions league chasing clubs

He doesn't at all. He, Charles & Downes are all the same player essentially - obviously MF is a level above the latter 2. 

They want to play "the number 8" get on the ball and drive forward. We've been vunerable on the counter and that is because our CM's are all too high. 

For me, obviously without seeing them in the flesh, this German lad and Azaz, suit the system mucher greater than MF does.

I mean, second worst team in Prem history is probably a bit of a red flag for the top top clubs

After this sell though, there is absolutely no excuse for SR to not go out and bring in a top quality attacking player. Wether that is Sargent, Fellows, that russian geezer or another. 

We absolutely have £20m to go out and find a match winner and someone who'll take us up.

What if we have needed / decided that in order to be able to shift some players at the prices we can actually sell them at, ie. BBD, Edozie, Smallbone, Aribo and possibly one or two others, we needed funds in to make sure we get the 4 or 5 players we really wanted. 

Im disappointed MF has gone (wasn't actually bothered by TD!) BUT if we end up signing the likes of Azaz, Fellows, Sargent and one or two more, id say that ok!!

We can all judge properly in a few days time.

Leeds sold Summerville and Rutter for similar fees to Dibling/Fernandes and ended up steamrolling the division. And they 5 points from their first 3 games, just 1 more than us.

Not saying that we'll get 100 points but we know from last time that a slow start isn't necessarily all doom and gloom. The first time they went top was in November and it was around that time two years ago where we really started to get going.

I'd like us to get a couple of loan players in from Prem teams. No obligation to buy, just proven quality who will get guaranteed game time.

I don't think the Fernandes deal is too bad personally.

Doubled his value in a year. And judging by his performance last weekend his heart wasn't really in it, so take the money and reinvest 

This Caspar guy looks like a good replacement and with a high ceiling to grow into.

Just a shame Fernandes chose West Ham, they look doomed.

IMO that's what we need. Something like that to soften the blow and show we are serious about promotion .

Seen a lot of "Great, more unknown Bundesliga 2 unknowns" going around on X for Casper as if anyone had a clue who Matty was before he signed.

It's disappointing to lose him to West Ham but if he wants the move and we make a solid profit I don't see the issue provided we replace.

Johannes Spors is going to at least have the inside track on a few gems given his experience.

Fernandes has played but he hasnt quite been thereIMO. I do wonder if that twat of a Portugese manager has been putting him under pressure

Not shocked Fernandes is off. Didn’t expect Tyler to stay either, both are just too good for this level. For the level we are at both are replaceable I'm not worried or losing any sleep.....

Happy with Finn Azaz coming in. Proven at this level, and exactly the kind of creativity we’ve been crying out for.

Roerslev looks a smart bit of business too. Experienced, reliable, great engine, more signings like that and we’re in good shape. 👍

The emergence of Jay Robinson really softens the blow of losing Dibling. Honestly, I think Robinson’s ceiling is even higher in terms of potential and ability.

And don’t sleep on Matsuki,  he stood out in pre-season and definitely caught my eye. Could be another bit of quality we’ve already got in the squad.

Now it’s about shifting Diaz, Edozie, Aribo, and Smallbone.

As for additions:

- Two quality wingers

(loans with option to buy?) Could we even make an ambitious move for Fellows?

- A proper striker. It’s time we replaced Danny Ings with someone who’s got height, strength, and power.

Like others have said, the loan market is where we’ll find real value.

Overall, I’m optimistic and genuinely looking forward to the season ahead. ⚽️

Yes, he hasn't exactly lit up the games he's played this season. And it was noticeable he wasn't in the squad against Norwich so with hindsight, you could see he was off.

Come to think of it, Adam Armstrong wasn't in the squad either. Here's hoping.

Did anyone really expect Fernandes to stay? He will be offered a huge wage increase, chance to play PL football, chance of a World Cup place etc - its a credit to him that he has played for us this season, most players in the same position would have downed tools.

At over £40m its a good fee, can cover the relegation shortfall and allow some additions to help us be overall stronger for a promotion push.

Quite simply, if you want to keep players like Fernandes (and Dibling) then don't ger relegated - once we did exits were inevitable.

No I didnt but i expected bettere than bloody West Ham. He could easily find himself on the manager merry go round we had last year cos Potter has been shite since he went there.

So, when Still said on Tuesday evening that leaving Fernandes out of the squad was "nothing to do with a potential transfer" (paraphrasing) was he being economical with the truth or has the move to West Ham suddenly cemented over the last 24 hours?

(Not that it really matters, just curious)

Yeah, but the interesting thing here in my mind is that Saints wouldn’t have contemplated spunking £42m on a young player from the 2nd worst team in EPL history. Whether that’s wise or a false economy will be interesting to see.

Like it or not, players like Fernandes are brought to sell on in 1-2 years time at a profit. I'm relatively happy with the model, so long as the money is re-invested and we continue to find players like Fernandes, Alcaraz etc. 

High risk, but In that respect, its been a success for SR.

I'd rather us sign and sell players like Fernandes, than sign dross like Aribo etc. who we cannot shift.

I suggest that it was precautionary in case someone did come in late for him. Afterall he was our most saleable asset and a couple of clubs were allegedly sniffing about. Would be a shame if he got injured and the funds not come in
