Sugawaras defensive issues won't be as problematic in the championship.

What about his poor first touch and passing? the championship is much more forgiving, but he didn't look a good player this season in any facet of the game.

Out of position a lot and tends to play football with his hands.

That would be hugely depressing if yet another manager thinks Stephens is the answer.

if the lineup on the opening day features Bazunu (or McCarthy) and Stephens there will be grown men in tears

all three have contracts, so likely they will be in the squad next season.

It did strike me, frankly that his appearance on MNF was a come and get me plea to any clubs watching.

very smart move by him/agent to increase his uk profile

@MindtheGab mentioned that Still's MNF appearance was a key factor. I'm very intrigued about that.

In this data-driven era, and with a business-critical decision to be made worth hundreds of millions of pounds, surely even SR are more organised than to pick a manager by just watching Sky until they stumble across someone who sounds clever doing a TV interview.

Would love to know more about how his MNF appearance influenced or focused the thinking on Still, to the extent it made him our number one target.

It is progress though. I got the feeling they picked Nate and Russ from the EFL radio shows that boosted them both for quite a bit, and Juric from Talksport's Trans Euro Express. They've now made the leap to TV. 🙂

Sugawaras defensive issues won't be as problematic in the championship. We need to focus on the obvious frailties in the team that need replacing - keeper, centre back, centre midfield.

If he’s playing right-back there will be a frailty there.  His defending is on a par with Manning’s - absolute dogshit.

With Still coming in and looking at his style of play I think some of you are going to be disappointed if you think Sulemana and Onuachu are leaving. Two perfect examples of players who do well in a direct style of play transitioning from defence to attack as quick as possible.

Neither work hard enough for Still in my opinion.  Tall Paul blows out of his arse after a 10 yard run.

Do you thik there may be a hint or even suggestion of something within that post?

Will be announced before the game I hope all signed. Otherwise he might see the mauling and change his mind.

Will Still's RC Lens were linked in the media with a move for Sulemana as recently as January. So he may quite like him.

I'll back him, as I do with any manager we appoint until they show they're not right for us. I really hope this is a good appointment. Has some experience despite his age. Back him SR.

Oh, and please don't play 3 CBs. Ta.

Welcome Will!

Thanks trousers. You remain a trusted, early source unlike the rabble who are just in it for the attention and to try pretend they are breaking the news.

He lived in Belgium, does he have a dog called Snowy? Tin Tin is our new manager.

A bit of a gamble but I guess he who dares wins!

Glad to see us getting him in quickly unlike last time, good to have the whole summer to prepare. With the right backing there is no reason why we can’t bounce straight back.

I was hoping for someone with more of a track record of championship success to be honest like Cooper.

His initial work in France is certainly interesting and they are clearly gambling on the potential long term benefit

Let's hope he can hit the ground running and get the team performing at the top of the league, which will be the expectation.

Suspicious gait.

It's because of the ginger nuts he's got in his pocket.

Great to get it all done early. The whole summer to sort it out. Great move imo, it feels right this one tbf.

I hope I’m not eating my words come September……………

Totally agree about getting it done early. I'm feeling underwhelmed TBH but as with all jobs, you can only judge a person on their performance not on their appointment. I wish everyone well who joins our club. Let's see where it goes. Deep breath, reset.

As still was announced as our manager before the game, does that technically / statistically mean he's got one premier league game on his CV, regardless of whether he was in the dugout or not? (Just preparing myself for a possible quiz question on such matters in years to come....)

Welcome aboard Will. I hope you turn out to be lucky for us. Please bring back some hope and a few smiles.

advice to you. Don’t get drawn into the theories and philosophies of non footie people and stick to what makes footie clubs great. Good basics good tactics, good footballers and great team ethics.

What I’m really looking forward to is the first new manager interview with the usual searching questions…

”How excited are you to come to Saints?”

”Was it Saints 100 years plus history that helped you decide to come here?”

”Have you spoken to the players yet?”

”How proud are you to be here?”

Etc etc etc…

That, and prevent Smallbone and Bazanu from being anywhere near the first team, preferably away from the entire club.

Potential long term success is the part that makes little sense to me ..when you are going for the young exciting up coming manager types like this he’s gonna get snatched if we are going well.. West Ham could even come calling around Xmas and what good would that be ?

honestly that aside it looks a great appointment and I love that he is adaptable
