Will post match

  • Could not have a better intro than that
  • Deserved 3 points
  • their goal was frustrating, we messed it up, poor throw
  • It was a silly penalty. Took a while to find our bearings
  • We created enough chances to get back in the game
  • We showed a bit of grit/determination to come from behind
  • Pitch seemed a bit sticky, it was early season syndrome
  • It crossed my mind we may not score, but we have to find a way
  • we got there in the end
  • We know Ryan has a great left foot.
  • We just got to have a go, and we did
  • Whether we won or lost, it would not have set the season, but good to get more people onside
  • We needed to show character, energy and desire..we did that
  • It is a million dollar question if Matty stays, he is a good player. Matty was not quite ready to start
  • Time will tell if he stays
  • Tyler not able to play, it was better for the team, and we will see
  • I hope not this Drama every week, but as they say, welcome to the championship

He was behind the ball when Manning played it.

Got to draw the lines.

Anyway, I don't care. Back of the net.

Well gonna be hard to not play manning from the start next week after that he was great . Downs looks lightning fast reminds me a bit of broja in a good way, didn’t really get much going for him but love the pace . I’m one of bazunu’s biggest haters usually but very important save and actually got down to it well which is usually one of his biggest flaws .

What a finish.

Pretty sluggish at times in the 1st half, slow on the ball.

2nd half much better, and the quality of the bench won it.

We really cannot go into the games with Arma as the central striker, that is ridiculous.

Manning was superb when he came on, quality crosses, goal and an assist.

Shout to Charles, who's cross-field ball to Manning was brilliant.

Edwards ropey, Quarshie not a comfortable on the ball, Bazunu with a brilliant save and Stephens was good, particularly clearing up for Edwards.

Manning Sky's MoM - well deserved.

taking the emotion out of it now

Pretty much how I saw it although I don’t think we were good in the second half. The amazing end papers over the cracks that we were too slow moving the ball and didn’t really create any clear cut chances. lots of work to be done we got out of jail there. Agree we can’t start with Armstrong as striker on his own got to be

first half was very poor and we were very easy to play against, second half it was attack v defence but very predictable

Manning was excellent when he came on a player who IMO has got a lot of unfair criticism since he’s been here

thought Robinson grew into it and showed some nice touches. Fraser worked hard and was okay

captain Jack with two goal saving tackles and the winner and Baz making a great save. Won 2-1 could easily have lost 2-0

Ref awful, rightly gave theres but missed two clear ones for And a lot of weird free kicks given against us

always going to be a difficult day Wrexham with the enthusiasm and something to prove and momentum plus I’d imagine most neutrals wanting them to win

Fantastic finish but Still will know lots of work still to do both in the transfer market and on the training ground

That's the kind of game that makes or breaks seasons. Being able to keep pushing and somehow win is something we had forgotten.

Plenty to improve on but being able to fight to the end gets a big tick

Feel a bit for Edwards today, he’s clearly a talented ball playing CB but Moore absolutely battered him about today

Wrexham knew what they were doing putting him on him

Yep he got bullied, but Moore often bullies us he did last time we played them sort of player you hate when he’s on the other team but love when he’s on yours

for a second, just imagine Marty McFly had told you Bazunu would make that save in the 88th (?) min and Manning would turn into JWP scoring a free kick before Stephens scores the winner in the 94th min have attacked the far post from out wide. 🤣 mental!

Few random non goal/Baz thoughts:

Charles was class, probably our best player

Edwards so poor. Wood would've been better on Moore as he's more of a unit. Should probably have left Suga on as we needed someone to cross it when the forwards came on.

We need a target man up front, one of Downs or Stewart has to play. Armstrong should never be played there again. Also he just is not clinical enough as we all know, he had several good chances.

Fraser and Robinson did OK, both had their moments. Really impressed with Robinson but we can't expect that every game from a teenager.

I thought Suga and Welington were both OK, but there's no point playing with them as wingbacks if we have a midget front line when they both want to get forward and cross.

Wrexham are a team coached by a manager who is very experienced at this level, and play within their limitations.

I think WS has a particular way he wants to play, but is on a steep learning curve, and until the transfer window SLAMS SHUT won't be able to know his best line up.

After all the stick he has taken, Bazunu had a decent game, my man of the match for that save at 0-1, miss it and that was a defeat. Shout out for Ryan Manning, where did that come from plus a decent win and cross for the much maligned Jack Stephens at the back post. Over 75% possession, 27 shots, 47 touches in the box, hit the post, two penalty shouts one a definite shirt pull. It was all about Wrexham from the outset on Sky. I thought we were far the better team against a counter attacking team.

He looked very good today, only our first game but that season at Wednesday looks to have done him some good.

Well done Manning, he changed the game! Was putting in great crosses as soon as he got on, nice whip and speed.

When he stepped up to the free kick, i was already clapping in cellebaration( and hope) before it went in😅!! Got us that tying goal we were pressing for.

The assist for the winner was just icing on the cake.

Shout out to cap Jack for some great last min tackles and having the desire to get on that cross. He bleeds SFC.

A rejunvinated Baz who is determined to show the naysayers are wrong, is a good thing, long may it last.

Great team win, stats showed we dominated, but a nail bitting finish was the reality. COYS

What a miserable scrote Parkinson is! All he moaned about was that Edwards should have had a red for their pen.....no mention of course of the pens we should have had. He seemed quite angry throughout the game.

According to the laws of the game, he should have seen red

Not if the ref has any doubts about the clear goal scoring opportunity and the doubt was Stephens in close proximity

Can't remember the last time we got 27 shots on goal in a game, felt like our frontline weren't used to having this many chances the way some of them were going about their business.

Shame lots of them fell to AA

Pretty bad that after a long preseason, there was seemingly very little structure or style of play being implemented. I’m not sure why Still waited until a competitive game to play the first team together

Arma doesn’t work centrally. RW or not at all.

We won, but truly that papered over the cracks and we need to be much better.

Having a wel defined structure and a style of play didn't do us much good in the (recent) past. Maybe some more individualism and creativity is what we need.

I am pretty certain that pulling a players shirt and handling the ball in the penalty area are against the laws of the game and should have resulted in pens. All are open to the refs interpretation.

He hasn’t but credit for the goal

What are you talking about, he was MoTM  even before the goal. He had two very nervous defenders either side of him, guided them through the game and put in at least two game saving tackles.

Lose the agenda for God's sake and enjoy the win.

Wow, wasn't expecting that finish to the game. The biggest take for me is how fit we looked right to the end and that helped get us over the line as Wrexham tired. Ref was useless and denied us two stonewall penalties. Thought Robinson was very good and will get better with games, Quarshie too did well apart from the odd mistake but he'll also improve with minutes. Bad call from Will to play AA through the middle, it's never worked and never will - Stewart should lead the line after his cameo today. Shout out to Jack Stephens - did little wrong today and came up with a great last ditch tackle and, of course, the winning goal. Baz also defied his critics, including me although I did say I'd seen improvements in the preseason games and wonder if the new coach is helping - anyway, he kept us alive with the save before we equalised. Ryan Manning did brilliant off the bench, superb free kick that JWP would have been proud of and a good take and cross to set up the winner.

Clearly we do need to bring in some quality creative players/wingers and hopefully the Dibling money will let us do that.

It was actually an entertaining game though probably wouldn't be saying that but for our two late goals. Enough promising signs to be optimistic.

According to the laws of the game we should have been awarded two penalties and I get that the match would have taken a totally different course if Edwards had been sent off.

What a fantastic finish, but that ref was terrible, and I hardly ever slag of refs. You can forgive the odd error, but that was just ridiculous.

Saints should have been comfortably in front but we're forced to do it the hard way.

Great scenes at the end, nobody gave a toss that they lacked structure, and that the forwards didn't seem able to finish any of the endless chances. That final score really mattered.

Kick on from there.

Stephens MoTM today he played very well. Baz was impressive as were Downes and Robinson. Work to do beyond that but early days.

tbf to Downs, I think he was pushed in the back.. Who cares? Forgotten what this winning feeling is like..

Yeah. Definite shove in the back just as the ball arrived that no doubt the ref would have missed had Stephens not been there to show Armstrong how to finish.

Agree, clear push and ref would definitely not have given it, he was completely crap all game.

Edwards did have a very bad game, but he showed last season he can definitely do it in the Championship, and the QPR fans were practically worshipping the ground he walked on so I think we can give him a few more chances. Downes and Charles should have controlled midfield but obviously didn't. I don't know how fit Downes was after his injury, so hopefully he'll do better over the rest of the season.

The first game for a promoted side is always like a cup final for them. If you watched our game against Newcastle last season you'd never think we'd only win two games all season, and Birmingham ran Ipswich ragged yesterday too. They will have been psyching themselves up for today since the fixtures were released, so it's no surprise they played beyond their quality a bit. Were they a Premier league quality side they would probably have finished 3 or 4 of their chances today, but they're not and we won't face a Premier League quality front line this season in the league.

It was very laboured for most of the game though, and we didn't seem able to shoot anywhere apart from the centre of the goal most of the time which was very annoying to watch! I trust we'll get some wingers and a CAM in by the end of the transfer window, but until then it looks like our only strategy to chase a game is to just play every striker at once, which I can't imagine being 100% effective!

Ipswich next week will be a very interesting game, we definitely need to play either Downs or Stewart through the middle from the start though, as Armstrong will never be much use through the middle. I'm also not giving Will credit for the Manning substitution as good as it was as I think it was one forced on him by injury haha

Does anybody at the BBC proof read what they post ?

From their match report......."Still's stated aim is to return this club to the Championship at the first attempt "

I doubt even Will Still would admit this as being a strategy. However, kudos to him for having the balls to throw every forward on the pitch and it somehow worked. But he's a much brighter thinker than to ever use this as anything but a desperate measure and not a strategy.

Ronnie was given a hard time having to compete with their best player- Moore. I thought he did ok mostly - not the disaster most here saw.
Ditto Quarshie. Few bad passes but otherwise he showed with his pace and strength and height how much we’ve missed having someone with those characteristics.

Think it was quite obvious the defensive line still not gelled but that’s more than balanced out by the long awaited return of …team spirit….last minute equalisers….and injury time WINNERS!
