Playing Style & Strengths

Modern GK: Comfortable with the ball at his feet, good short distribution, suits possession-based teams.
Strong shot-stopping: Fundamentally sound, quick reflexes, performed well in limited Bayern outings (e.g., solid in Pokal and UCL cameos).
Commanding presence: Brave in the box, good mentality under pressure.
Athletic: Decent height and agility for 1v1s and crosses.
Proven at lower levels: Excellent record at Maccabi (44 clean sheets in 101 games) and Israel NT.

Weaknesses

Aerial/command of area: Biggest area for improvement – can be hesitant on crosses/high balls.
Experience: Still raw at top level; needs consistent games to develop (reason for loans).
Long distribution: Prefers short passes; less effective in direct styles.

Current Form & Potential
Limited minutes this season (mostly backup at HSV, some Pokal starts with 80% save rate). He's talented but stuck behind Neur at Bayern. The Southampton move should give him starts in a competitive league – ideal for growth

Do think we need a keeper who can command his box, as Baz does not do that at all.

However I'd be prioritising a physical number nine. Beyond that any decent manager has all the tools he requires in the squad at this level.

But great to have him in the locker room for the second semester.

I hear this custodian makes some frigging awesome hand denials

Tonda Eckert asked about Daniel Peretz: “When it comes to certain positions, I don't know if I'm the right one to ask. I have an idea and a pair of eyes, but I trust the recruitment department.”

The same goalkeeping department that scouted Bazunu, Lumley, Long and a new expensive contract for McCarthy.

Assume McCarthy is off can’t see us having 4 glovesmen on the roster

I've been assuming that AMcC would have been off about 5 transfer windows ago, but he keeps hanging around. No doubt when he does leave, it'll be to become our new GK coach 😂😂

Low bar

Which Baz still wouldn't be able to put a ball over.

Seeing as Baz kept a clean sheet and made a save today, we have probably cancelled this last minute...

I think this guy has pushed Baz enough. No need to go through with the deal now.

Can't we send that 3rd rate loser back to Norwich?

I can’t for the life of me understand what people’s problem with Long is. It’s like complaining that your space-saver spare wheel is useless because it can’t run as fast as a regular wheel.

McC leaving would make sense. Out of contract in summer and (thankfully) unlikely to get first team football here, even less so with this new bloke.

I think the point is, we should have brought in a keeper to compete to start instead of Long...

Good luck to him and perhaps he’ll show the form that Bayern saw in him originally.

Hope  that as an Israeli international his time with Saints isn’t seen as reasons for others to make Palestine protests etc (might seem far fetched but you wouldn’t put it past some cretins ).

Clearly such a player wasn’t available at the time for the right price.

Clearly, and people said we could not as we had Ramsdale on the books and Baz is "fine" for this league

Yeah a club that has enough spare cash to waste 8mil on a useless lump like damion downs couldn’t find enough money to spend a few mil on a decent championship keeper.

Have a day off. It’s all just been incredibly poor decision making

What’s the point of a crappy spare wheel when the regular ones are also worn out crappy ones too?

If this is an accurate quote, what’s the point of even being a manager these days?  No wonder players appear to be so disconnected to a club and fan base.  The “together as one”mentality is long gone. We’re just a team patched together by various other people’s input with a “head coach” expected to make it all work.

I have no idea if this lad is good or not, but I assume we’ve disbanded our scouting network and just go with Spors’ contacts on who we can get from Germany now?

In other words we had a pressing need for a striker, we spent £7m and the one we got turned out to be worse than Archer. It’s really not as straight forward as some would like to believe. If it was, everyone would be doing it.

we had a pressing need for a GK. I know you were one of those 'Baz is fine for the Championship', but he really is not

It all seems very disjointed.

The lad at Derby is miles better and cost around £2-3m less. Their keeper was only £1.5m and better than anything Saints had in goal since Forster did his knee v Burnley. They’re out there, but it requires actually watching and buying them to fit into a team, not relying on what AI spits out.

Great point. But could you let me be excited for a few minutes?

Of course, we will be flush on that Scienza-money we all know will be coming from Chelsea/Liverpool in the Summer.

My Bundusliga watching brother said "he's crap" after prompting me asking about him.

We were watching the Liverpool snooze fest, so I couldn't see if it was a wind up. The guy's barely played after all.

From snippets I've read he has appearances from his home country league, bought with promise by a top team, but dropping now to third choice and out the door.

He feels he was told he'd be playing for his loan club. But they've just gone with their regular keeper as they try and stay up.

My brother did say that there were plenty of duds around German football at the moment, catching idiot clubs like ours recruiting in that market. So, that was cheerful to hear.

Not the right one to ask, meaning what? He's not qualified to distinguish a good keeper from a bad one 😀

Basically saying ‘nothing to do with me pal’ - usual response from a manager when a player is being sent to them that he knows little or nothing about. Adkins said similar about Mayuka and Yoshida.

And if your space saver just stayed there it would be fine. He still trains with the team so I'm going to assume people hit shots at him. So we're practicing shots against a keeper that can't get down to his left, a keeper that can't save at his near post and one which is a hologram.

Then we're surprised our finishing in matches is not the same as training or that opposition keepers do unexpected things like coming off their line to claim the ball when we cross

If you hire warm bodies that provide no competition it's easy for complacency to set in in training. Then carry forward into games.
