We aren’t asking him to be captain and main man for a mid table PL side, he will be 2nd or 3rd choice CM in a championship playoff chasing side, which is a completely different level. Look at how well players like Matt Grimes have done in the Championship. He’s good enough.

My worry is about not having a Charles profile of player, not that JWP isn’t good enough for what we need.

Im not sure it was his fault as he always gave 100%, what I was alludingtowas the facr that he was a leader to the team, and so the evidence could be seen as he wasnt a very good leader. I must add he was brilliant when he marked Saha (?) for Palace and he took some fantastic free kicks, but he did shuffle of when he got the chance

It really is sad that the JWP deal is only happening after the feeders had been put out by certain sources.

It reminds me of the Glenn Hoddle return rumours many years ago. 99% hated him and wanted nothing to do with him but the public opinion started to change slowly as chants were heard at matches.

Then all of a sudden they announced someone else. (Mark Hughes was it?!?)

I really don't understand why people seem to want to erase this because it doesn't fit the narrative, he's a skate cunt, he was born there and supported them, and held a season ticket.

If people are going to say he's not then no one is. Then again they'll also be the same people singing "we hate pompey", or fathers gun, when clearly they don't actually hate them. I on the other hand do.

Where’s this quote of him saying Portsmouth winning the fa cup was the best day of his life? I’ve not heard that one before.

Being a STH or mascot as a kid isn’t always the child’s choice. 

Pretty sure he’s kissed our badge a few times in celebrations etc. Played over 400 times for us over a 20 year period. I don’t think he’s the full blown skate you are making him out to be.

Pretty much my thoughts too. I think other than Downes our options are a bit lightweight/slow.

He won't be 3rd choice and likely not 2nd choice. If he signs he'll probably be a regular starter.

I dont know if you have played competitive sport, but if you have and not had players/captains/managers tearing you off a strip to get a reaction your teams may have been pushovers

Why do you care about it?  It's not an issue. Do you think he has ever not given his best for us because of it? Maybe for him and most normal people the club you support doesn't define his entire life

I get what you're saying. I heard that he actually approached the skates prior to enquiring about a return to us but they said no because he'd played for us for too long. That's why whenever you see a picture of him now, he's frowning even when it looks like he's pretending to smile.

Even in the derby you can see how uncomfortable he looked playing for us and in some instances he even celebrates the goals in front of their supporters instead of ours. He really is a disgrace

Is Franny getting upset because 8year old JWP didn't go out and work really hard on his paper round, spend that money on a season ticket for saints, and say, "no no, I'm off to Southampton by myself" when his Pompey supporting season ticket holding family took him to krap nottarf?

To each his own I guess.

Although I do then feel it's a tad harsh to call him a c*** for choosing not to embrace child labour and travelling alone on public transport to saints every weekend, or to imply he doesn't care about the club after giving 20years+ of his life to it 😅

I worked in a lot of kitchens, and only being shouted was a good day in many of them.

I'm not a fan of the ex players returning for a last pay day, especially after considering how some of them left. But. JWP did not leave under a cloud, in fact the opposite, we moved him on because we could no longer afford his outrageous wages. So if that is no longer an issue, then I'd happily have him back. We look so weak in midfield, this might not be even a big gamble right now. We need something, and desperation is all consuming. 

James has lost three years, maybe that manifests into hunger and desire to prove people wrong. Bring him back.

His family recognising that our academy was better, going on to then make 410 appearances, score 55 goals. Being present to score his first goal for us against Coventry in the FA Cup and then seeing him commit to and flourish in our colours, going on to represent England. Becoming our captain, representing us in European competition and playing a part in some incredible memories that will last a lifetime.....

..... That does tend to count for something too. Not everyone buys into the tribal hatred and even if that is important, Christ, what more would you want from the guy!?

And those are relevant to people trying to communicate assertively in a noisy football stadium how exactly?

If a player is out of position with an attacker bearing down on goal I would rather someone puts the effort into being heard and communicating the urgency of the situation. This typically involves raising one's voice or to put it another way - shouting.

There are times when other forms of communication are more appropriate but when the situation requires urgent attention then you put the effort into getting their attention. For example if a child in your class was about to pick up a rattlesnake saying they'd always loved poisonous animals, the correct response is more likely to be "STAY AWAY FROM THE FUCKING SNAKE!" and not "don't you mean venomous animals?".

Footballers are professionals. It's fairly rare to play for the club you supported as a child. What effect does it have on his playing ability that he supported a rival?

Just read an interesting point about Larin signing this summer as a 31 year old. Prowsey the same age and always been very strong on the fitness and stamina. His dead balls will be good for Larin too. Free kick winner in the derby in front of the Northam please, thank you.
