Is someone seriously trying to say THB would rather stay at a championship club than go to a club playing in the champions league?

The only reason he doesn’t go to Villa is if they don’t match our valuation.

Yes, at some point it becomes a case of ‘either shit.. or get off the pot’ for several parties involved.

Perhaps give THB and his agent a deadline to tell the clubs after him we want it agreed by whenever or its not happening. Should have been pm yesterday in my view.

Alternatively, and I can’t see it, we sign another in the expectation that someone stumps up the cash we’re seeking by the deadline. Although this might weaken our hand if Villa or others know we don’t want/can’t afford keeping him.

I think what he's saying is that the appeal of villa has lessened because they've sold a load of players. That doesn't kick them out of the prem or the champions league though so I don't see the point.

I think hell go this weekend,  Saints will change thier mind and sell him at 2nd bid. If a player wants to go then no point keeping them as won't be committed to team, as already not committed by wanting to go. Just get the sale done and replacement.

It's not downplaying THB's value - we will get what we can and we've been pretty good at it over the years.

Picking out completely different players playing in completely different positions for established Premier League teams and then getting annoyed about it isn't getting you anywhere.

We should have set a deadline at some point last week. This situation is no good for us. Either Villa pay what we are asking, or close to or we tell them no deal. It can't be because they are waiting for other deals tp go through as they've sold well this summer. Only reason I can see is that they are more screwed over by FPP then they originally let on. Possibly explain why they think a centre half from the Championship is the solution to their defensive frailties.

So that’s Ordonez and Tomori not going to Villa. That leaves THB, who hasn’t played for the last 3 games waiting for his move to be finalised. It’s obviously going to happen.

The signing of Schlotterbeck massively mitigates THB's departure now. Just a question of not being mugged off.

Not sure it does since Schlotterbeck plays on the other side. If (when) THB goes we are going to need to quickly replace him. I’d imagine us agreeing a deal for a replacement will now come into the decision of whether to accept Villa’s next bid.

A bidding war is about the best we can hope from this situation, apart from Taylor staying, which seems unlikely now.

Let's fleece the PL teams for all they're worth.

I get the impression Villa are using THB as a fallback option which puts us in a difficult position. All the replacements we've likely earmarked won't want to wait around.

Even if he stays, rumours will be constantly swirling around him and all this will flair up again in January. It needs sorting this window.

It's a blow to lose him no doubt. I think we have a good chance of being stronger overall however if we get the likes of Falchener and the German. It makes things a lot easier in the aftermath of a 5-1 win without THB. If we'd lost yesterday I'd be feeling a whole lot worse about things! Lastly big well done for saints for holding out for what we wanted.

THB was always going to be the one to leave this window. He was our biggest asset, regardless of Shea going earlier.

JWP for less than a mill is a steal and If we can get Falchner in for less than £10M then the team have done a cracking job of min/maxing their fees.

Hopefully it frees up a little more capital for any 'Luxury' signings before the close of the window ala Scienza last year.

He was excellent towards the end of last season, Tonda really brought the best out of him and he was probably the best CB in the league. Hit and miss before then and I’d say a downgrade for Villa from Konsa, but that’s their problem now. 
 

Like the sound of the Norwegian lad as a replacement.

Villa finally pull their finger out after a few lowball offers.

25+5 is still the minimum we should be looking at, but at least it's done and we can now sign a replacement

I figured it would be £25 million with 5 million add ons and we got what we wanted. Now we need a replacement, get Falchener in and with Scholtterbeck we should have enough to cope with the loss of our best CB.

On to the attack, and a back up keeper.

Excellent Championship CB with top class shithousery. Will miss the latter more if we can secure a solid replacement like Falchener. Can’t blame him for wanting to go for Champions League football and the Premier League. I just hope he has a better unit around him than the rubbish Russell Martin left him with when we went up so we get the chance to see if he’s genuinely decent at Prem level or not.

Should have been a minimum £30M in my opinion , not enough
