That's a great example, and it shows the process - the EFL don't make the decision, they will make recommendations based upon the evidence provided by Boro and ourselves. Boro aren't 'close' to this like they believe they are, we have been able to fight our corner with counter evidence - so we'll see what they come up with.

If the EFL had recommended the committee to consider expulsion, we'd know about it by now. There will have been chats in the background with the clubs, media, Sky etc to set the expectation out in confidence.

yeah I tend to agree.

As I said the other day, from inside the club, I've been told we are expecting fine and points but are pushing for just a fine.

The case of guilt is cut and dry. We're going to be found guilty, we're not denying it, just mitigating it.

It makes no sense that the EFL would continue 'as-is' with ticket sales etc. other than some fancy arse covering "read T&C's", if they are heavily pushing for expulsion.

Surely there's been a spot of plea bargaining by now. Can't believe that everyone turns up this morning without any sort of contact at all so far.

I'm going to set off for the pub this afternoon to await the verdict.

There could be an Agreed Decision.

Regulation 86 allows the EFL and the club enter an Agreed Decision where it is appropriate in the circumstances to conclude a matter effectively and equitably without referring the matter to a Disciplinary Commission.

Now, I don’t know if the independent tribunal will be considered as a Disciplinary Commission.

Edit: yes the two are the same. So unlikely an Agreed Decision can be made.

If there was an agreed plea bargain in place why would the panel sit?  I’m not certain but I think that the panel will decide whether the rules have been broken and outline if any mitigating circumstances should be considered and the EFL decide upon the sentence. The sentence will then set a precedent so the EFL need to be in control of that.

No the panel decide the sentence also, hence the EFL having the right to appeal.

SAINTS have received an increased ticket allocation for the Championship play-off final at Wembley, with 37,604 supporters set to make the trip.

It is an increase of 1,620 from the club’s original allocation of 35,984 for Saturday's showdown clash with fellow finalists Hull City at 4.30pm.

Would be extremely cruel to issue extra tickets only to snatch the 37,000 back a few hours later.....that would almost smack of incompetence.....

Also I'd add that Boro's statement a few weeks ago was very desperate, and struck of them throwing their toys out - I reckon at this point everyone was told that the EFL recommends against expulsion, so they tried to apply a bit of pressure. That statement wouldn't have come from anywhere.

Ah, ok.
So the panel has the power to decide whether to use the sanctions to be a “deterrent” for the EFL rather than the EFL themselves?

The full written decision in the Swindon case from earlier this season contains:

"Further, the EFL submitted in the Referral that, in the event the Alleged Breaches were found proven, the appropriate sanction would be for the Club to be expelled from the EFL Trophy for the 2025/2026 season and forfeit the prize which would otherwise have been awarded from winning the Fixture."

That indicatres that even though the EFL don't dictate the sanction (the independant commision does), they may have already advised the commision what they deem an appropriate sanction to be as part of the rererral.

It would, I'm looking for positives and am assuming Wembley are convinced its still going ahead as planned.

Agree. It otherwise makes no sense for them to be so public.

Equally they could have been trying to apply pressure before a sanction had been agreed. I’m not sure we can draw any conclusion from their statement other than they were trying to play victimhood out in public to get everyone onside with them.

Bit of a snip from the Echo

10:42am19/05/26

Saints handed bigger Wembley allocation 🎟️

Saints have received an extra 1,620 tickets for Saturday’s Championship play-off final at Wembley. Hull also received 2,000 more.

That takes Saints’ total allocation to 37,604, while the club have also confirmed they will wear their traditional red-and-white strip.

10:17am19/05/26

Verdict expected later today 🚨

The two legal teams involved in the hearing are expected to receive the verdict before it is released publicly. It could go late into the day.

We’ll bring you the outcome as soon as it breaks.

Saints firmly fighting expulsion calls 😬

Saints believe expulsion from the Championship play-off final would be a wildly disproportionate punishment for the crime.

Some at the club would view such a punishment as equivalent to a massive points deduction or a financial hit worth hundreds of millions.

Promotion to the Premier League is estimated to be worth around £200million to the winning club due to TV revenue and sponsorships.

Unbeaten in 19 league games, Tonda Eckert’s side finished fourth in the Championship table and are now one game away from the top flight.

If the EFL were pressing ahead with explusion as a recommendation, why would they need to apply pressure?

Ross is in the Scotland squad

Probably nothing to read into this but, the club haven't put out a twitter or Facebook post* on this yet...usually they're all over an international call up like a rash on social media... Why not this time? Maybe they're just avoiding the flack that their tweets are attracting at the moment?

(* They have published an OS article)

The game is going ahead.

The winners will be promoted.

If SFC are found guilty of breaking both sets of rules as charged they will face a proportionate penalty which either SFC or the EFL could appeal against if they feel the punishment does not fit the crime.

Sorted.

Which is why I don’t think that expulsion was a firm option prior to the hearing, hence Boro doing their level best to make it so.

What makes you think we're being kicked out on Wednesday? They're still in the hearing now nothing will be decided.

I fear we won't hear for a long time yet . I'd guess decision late afternoon told to clubs then a cagey period with possible (correct and false!) leaks before we hear either very late today, or tomorrow.  Who cares about fans? 🤬

I didn't say we would be or that I thought we would be. It's a possible sanction as it has been throughout.

Will all of these members of the EFL Board be involved in the prosecuting case or only the EFL Championship representatives? Either way, I assume that Steve Gibson's employee, Neil Bausor, the executive director of Middlesbrough, will be at the forefront of the prosecution and demanding whatever Steve Gibson tells him to demand.

EFL Board - The English Football League

Anyway, no final decisions are going to be made until they've all had their lunch.

Which is why I think it won't happen. Can't see moving the game as a feasible option, especially with the World Cup call ups etc.
