Scienza to Blackburn?

Might be doing with Stewart what Liverpool did with Ricky. Get one up there and the others will follow. VERY worrying times

Was always going to be a difficult summer, bringing back memories of 2014 as you say.

But we might be able to hold onto BBD, Archer and Downs (Sods Law he has just hit form at this stage of the window). And perhaps Bazunu.

All is not lost yet.

If we sell BBD I’m going to cancel my Dhgate order. I can’t give this club any more of my money.

I miss those hopeful optimistic days.

A redeveloped docklands marina, Saints in a pure plain red kit, and 150 million or so new Chinese supporters

As much as I like Scienza, Im not convinced hes good enough for the Prem, and certainly not a side going for say top 8. I think hes a bit lightweight for that level. I hope he stays, we go up, and he gets his chance that way. But Id be happy with 30m+ for him this summer too!

Sacha Tavolieri reports that Nolan Galves has chosen West Bromwich Albion and a full agreement has been reached between WBA and the French defender. Galves will have a four-year contract. The deal is described as historic, as Galves becomes the first French defender playing in Ligue 2 to move directly to the Championship in the 21st century.

Ben Jacobs reports that Nolan Galves has agreed to join West Brom from Ligue 2 side Rodez, with a deal currently being finalised. West Brom signed the 23-year-old defender despite competition from multiple Championship suitors.

Personally I think we might lose Jander, THB and Charles, the problem obviously is replacing them properly but it could mean other players may agitate for a move if we start to look unambitious. I'm sure the club will want to keep them, just depends on the finances. I'm not sure about Leo, he doesn't seem the sort to go on strike or hand in a transfer request if he doesn't get a move.

I guess the good news is that if we lose Jander, THB and Charles that will provide £70m+ with which to rebuild the team. I agree though we had such a good energy in the team a the end of the season it would be a shame to break it up (assuming getting kicked out of the playoffs hasn't already killed it)

Yes, I would say it is worth Saints trying to head off the potential of losing Scienza late in the window by offering improved terms plus agreement to let him leave to a PL team after this season if we don't go up as you say. Whether he will go for that, we don't know... I think the Tonda situation is a poblem as not sure he will make that commitment while there's still a chance we have to change manager.

If a PL club comes in for him he will still want to move, so I don't see the point in giving him more money. Why would we want to agree to let him leave next summer? The fact he's tied to a contract is what gives us strength in negotiations..why give that away?

TBF if he signed a new contract on more money for a season it would make it much more likely that he doesn't go for a season. More likely that he Just waits it out and sees if someone comes in for him though

Scienza can go and I won’t lose sleep over it.

I get being thrown out of the playoffs is disappointing but the arrogance shown suggesting we were already guaranteed a place in the Premier League is astounding.

Hull may have beaten us.  He was a part of the Will Still era that ultimately cost us in the long run.

Would he still have moaned if we’d lost in the final?

He signed on 1st September, Still got sacked on 2nd November. In that time, he was only played in 8 league games and had a managed introduction to the first team - playing only 390minutes of the available circa 760mins (8x95)... It's pretty harsh to aportion him blame for "the Will Still era" 😅.

The guy is 27/28, has had a pretty rocky life in football, has never downed tools at saints, isn't kicking off or agitating for a move, and is well within his rights to back himself for a prem move and to say he'd consider it if it became available. Personally, I hope he makes it with saints as I suspect that's his best real chance of having a good couple of seasons in the prem - so a win win for all parties. But he has a long contract and we'd get good money for a sale. As with Charles, he isn't irreplaceable and we'll get well paid if he moves... In some ways, it's a good time to sell him.

Because he may agree to commit to another season with us if we offer him those improved terms. Realistically, he will not stay beyond the end of this season if we don't get promoted again. Obviously, we should stipulate that we will only let him leave next summer if we get a high enough offer. At the end of the day, only Scienza and his agent know how desperate he is to move to Prem now.

I didn't read his comments as arrogance or that he is "moaning". He's just saying it was frustrating that the chance of reaching the Prem last season was taken away through something beyond his and the players control. Factually correct. He wants to play in the Prem so he's saying he wants to talk to the club about the best way of him achieving that.

I don't see it as a problem that he is open about that, it's quite refreshing rather than the usual interviews where players just blandly say they are happy with everything when you know they are probably instructing their agents to get them a move elsewhere. He's saying he is "open to anything" so I still have hope he may commit to one more season in the Championship if he feels there's still a strong chance of getting to the Prem with us next season.

He's contracted until 2029. We don't need to do anything to retain his services for another year.

If a PL side comes in and offers £30m, financially it makes sense to us and of course he wants to play in the PL, so he goes. If they don't, whether he wants the move or not, he stays. How happy he is, is another question.

As I mentioned, the issue will be if we get an offer of say £20m. He may feel that the club doubling their money in a year is suffice. We may disagree...and then things start to get messy.

What a strange phrase. What is the club going to say other than "get promotion"?

All players want to play in the PL. he just doesn't want to be prevented from doing so by a high asking price and any discussion will be along the lines of. "I want to be allowed to leave for a PL club if they offer £Xm...oh and in the mean time I want my wage to increase".

Well, as you say, how happy he is if we make him stay without any offer to improve terms is another question. Of course, we can put our foot down and say "you are under contract and you are staying" but experience tells us that doesn't always work out well for the club/team. I suppose the way I'm looking at it, he was our best player last season (majority on here voted him as player of season as I recall) so whilst we don't have to give him a pay rise, I don't see it as ridiculous for us to reward him for his efforts last season, especially if it helps persuade him to give it another season in the Championship to try to get up with us. Of course, it will be difficult to replace the impact he has for us in this league (although I accept noone is irreplaceable) so surely better to keep him as a happy, committed player if at all possible?

Not to go all MLG on you, but you don't know that it"will be" an issue. He's done nothing so far to indicate he's kicking off or agitating for a move - if anything he's come across as one of the nicest guys in football and someone who very much lives for the day and whatever life brings.

Experience tells me that preventing a player leaving due to a exceedingly high transfer fee will create an issue - hence he wants talks to set out his expectation of that fee. If the fee is set too high from his point of view, he wont be jumping for joy.

Sure, he's done nothing yet....except state he wants talks.

If he was perfectly happy with his current lot and 'living for the day', then why the need for any talks at all?

It's obvious what he wants - a reasonable transfer fee that lets him go to the PL and/or a higher wage. Nothing new here.

His stock is high, ours is low due to missing out on promotion.

Just being smart from him. Doesn’t mean much anyway unless a club is willing to pay top money.

I still love him
