Pre-Season (2016/17)

So who gets left out of mid-field? The three playing yesterday looked settled and good with a good understanding already so on this showing will be first choice to start so where will Davis & Højbjerg fit in?

If the six Euro 16 absentees do not get game time in Holland, will they be automatic starters or will they have to fight for their places and how will this affect this pre-season bonding? Wonder how we'll line up against Watford, will Puel place faith in what he has seen in pre-season or take a flyer on the returning internationals doing their stuff from the get-go?

There are some big challenges ahead for M Puel.

Pal you make it sound like Puel is being to forced to break up a title-winning team, not a makeshift side that has played two halves of preseason football (and not even that) against patchy opposition. You do talk some ****.

Some of your theories - "how will this affect pre-season bonding" - are incredible !

Bear in mind we will be playing Europa League matches and we are in the fortunate position where Puel could pick a completely different midfield from one match to the next and still have plenty of quality about it.

Question that interests me is whether RK was right in saying that the U21 were all crap. Personally, and I know it is only a pre-season friendly, I thought that some did OK 2nd half and could be brought through.

Unlike the pre season games where all the under 21s seem to play one half together. During the season you are looking for players to come in and do a job for a game or two while surrounded by seasoned pros

I'm sure a lot of our under 21s wouldn't embarrass themselves in those circumstances.

Spot on. If you take one technically gifted u21 player and put him in amongst our first team, he will more than likely look the part and flourish. It's exciting to focus on youth again. A lot of people in and around the club are v happy again.

Any news on transfers and Tadic?

Just back from Holland.

Great trip as usual and too much beer drunk as usual. Couple of days of detox then back out on Wednesday.

As for the game. 1st half we completely dominated. Some nice quick passing and some rally nice movement from the front 3.

2nd half we lost the intensity. Zwolle were poor but we rarely troubled them in the 2nd half.

Only 1st real game of pre season so plenty of game time to come.

I do think though that some of our youngsters will be on the fringes this season and may be better off going out on loan to play more competitive football.

Didn't hear you. ;-) What did you think of Yann Valery, the young full back? Think he's only 17 but had something about him.

About 15 of us managed to get through the road blocks, riot police and the mayors personal protection unit so felt we should keep a low profile in the ground :-)

Would need to see how he fared against better opposition.

Yeah, it seemed a really rumbustious crowd, very wise. :-)

Those who have already bought the Bilbao tickets, also get the other match free, using the same ticket. Good news.

Bad news for people who don't want to cart a ticket around with them and have to get it home again. :D

The worst thing about it is the "unreserved seating for Espanyol" rule, you're going to get loads of helmets thinking they've booked their seat for both...

We have got a large number of fans incapable of understanding basic instructions as I witnessed last year with the print at home tickets causing delays at turnstiles but I think we'll be fine for this one.

It is a fantastic deal , £2 matches for £8 and fans will be eager to welcome Monsiuer Puel , Black and Plonk along with the new players but I doubt we'll have more than 10,000 at the game and if they open a few stands will be plenty of space to spread out.

I reckon they'll do a combined match programme as well as ticket stub.

Lewis, Yoshida, Martina, Van Dijk, Hojbjerg, Clasie, Reed, McQueen, Tadic, J-rod, Austin

Nice to see Pierre starting, although looks like he could be playing in the back four?

Back four is Martina, Yoshida, VVD, McQueen

Sam has played there last two matches. He started as a left back at Saints when he was 8. Swopped with Luke Shaw to left wing at 12/13yrs. Knows the position and has shown he can tackle last couple of games. I reckon he can but then I'm biased :)
