Pompey will not be calling off their manager hunt, despite the sudden availability of leading candidate Richie Barker.

The 38-year-old was yesterday surprisingly sacked by Crawley following a bitter argument over a budget cut.

The row saw the two-year contract he penned in the summer terminated with immediate effect, a timely development considering the Blues’ interest.

the man appointed by chief executive Mark Catlin as Bury boss previously is, at present, the most realistic candidate to take over the Fratton hot seat.

In addition, there is the added attraction Pompey will not have to pay out compensation to another club for his services – an aspect which would have been a concern 24 hours ago.

Under terms of the Football League granting the Blues their ‘golden’ share to come out of administration in April, the club are unable to pay transfer fees for players.

Catlin believes that stipulation could also apply to compensation to clubs for a new manager.

So Barker leaves a club because of a dispute over budget cuts and gets linked to a club with whose finances are constrained by the Football League.... nope, can't see that ever ending in tears, can you...?

@pn_neil_allen How long do Pompey have the embargo on paying fees for players ?

Neil Allen ‏@pn_neil_allen

@BileysMullet I presume until legacy debts are paid off - to football creditors at least.

Bileys Mullet ‏@BileysMullet

@pn_neil_allen four years !! ?

Neil Allen ‏@pn_neil_allen

@BileysMullet@gdhawkes Last player compromise was summer 2016, but club looking to settle payments Christmas 2015 last time I heard.

Bileys Mullet ‏@BileysMullet

@pn_neil_allen @gdhawkes seems odd when parachute payments all in well before then.

"I presume"? I thought these journos knew all the facts....?

Gary Knox ‏@GaryKnox

@pn_neil_allen So you don't actually know anything. More supposition and rumour.

Neil Allen ‏@pn_neil_allen

@GaryKnox No ‘supposition or rumour’ in there. Thems the facts.

For similar reasons Nigel Adkins left Championship S****horpe to drop a league to join Saints in League One and Simon Grayson left Championship Blackpool and dropped a league to join League One Leeds.

Yes, there are many delusional things said by Pompey players/owners/fanbase, but it would be foolish for any of us to deny that dropping a league from Crawley in League One to Pompey in League Two is still a good career move (in theory).

Pompey are basically a mid to small Championship sized club with their current infrastructure and fanbase. They have delusions of being more than that, but are still bigger than every League One/Two club apart from Wolves and Sheffield United.

Less of the mid. I would say more small.

“I presume” and “last time I heard”.

Oh well, I suppose it’s just as factual as anything else he writes.

Did this lad actually play for them? They talk about him being good in training, but the picture looks like an actual game (With Stewards and empty seats :) :) )

Anyway...... he can't sign (Clever old community club doing their homework) Could be interesting if they did field an illegal player

Thierry Henry is training with the Gooners (won't let me post A.R.S.E.N.A.L on a footie section of a paper W.T.F.?)...he "gets" us and I'm sure he'd help us out.

LOL PMSL!

Classic skates :mcinnes:

Love it, im sat on a long distance train, I never realised how amusing this glorious saga can be when reading in public etc, I now know how lord Trousers feels and all those coffee over keyboard posters.

SHALALA

And it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to find that the skates have been rigging their own games!

Add Sean O'Driscoll now to their list of most wanted, been sacked by Bristol City sono compensation to worry about. They are certainly lucky to have got rid of GW at a time when so many good managers are available, the few must be wetting themselves with excitement.

Wikipedia says he had a loan spell with them in 2012 when he was contracted to Birmingham.

"The 56-year-old leaves Ashton Gate with City currently 22nd in League One after just two wins in 18 matches."

Seems an ideal candidate.

In other news today, former Portsmouth Manager elect Diego Maradona went to extraordinary lengths to make sure that nobody from pcfc could find him.

He is presumed to have said "I am very worried that due to their financial situation they will be using their mobile phones from 4 years ago that could quite probably have my number on them.

I want to make sure nobody can locate me and try and blackmail me into taking that job on

Sean is far too classy for that lot

I'm guessing that Sheffield Utd are the famous club in trouble, just based on their League position. As for that Skate in the amber kit, they wore that in 2012/13, so the pic was from last season.

Oh, and if you fancy a laugh... and why would you be here if you weren't? :

Tickets for Pompey’s home match against Newport are now on general sale.

The Welsh club visit Fratton Park on Saturday, December 14 (3pm kick-off).

Blah blah...

Newport beat Pompey 3-0 at Rodney Parade in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy earlier this month.

But it was the Blues who came out on top when the sides last met in the league, romping to a 4-0 victory in Wales en route to winning promotion from the third division.

That 4-0 victory was THIRTY YEARS AGO, they love a bit of history over there.

It would be rather splendid.

I like the comment in that article that applications for the job are "believed to stand at more than 100". Not quite sure in what quarters that's believed, still less that there might be more than 100 serious applications.

100 would be of no surprise, as there are loads of people out of work

Its the top job at the Pompey Job centre, as the job requires no particular qualifications or skills so workshy skates are applying to make it look like they are actively seeking employment, its highly likely one of them will get the job on the Tory work for free scheme.

Probably not a common view but I think Andy's current position is more important than the Manager's job in the long term. I'm impressed that we've had 100 applications though. Would be nice if there are some big names in there or if Harry gets fired at the weekend!

What can you say? They really don't get it do they!

As a number of people here predicted, they are a shambles at board level with Chairman Ian McInnes admitting to boardroom infighting...

http://www.expressfm.com/local/podcasts/the-football-hour-933450/

The explanation of why Whittingham did the pre-match press conference for the Southend game on the day he was sacked is laughably tinpot.

The inmates are running the asylum...
