Dean Cox - B&HA

Professor

I hear from a Brighton fan that there is a rumour around their ground, that one of Dean Wilkin's starlets, midfielder Dean Cox, may be on his way to Saints.

Cox is said to be a young talent but he rarely plays a full game for Brighton and is currently a regular on the bench.

I think (?) there may have been a thead on him before...in August ????...

revolving around the fact that he was " small of stature " (as Shakespeare may have written)... but quite nippy on the ball.

Still, AP & Co. haven't done badly up until now with signings - so why not ?

As was Gillet ........ small players keep tripping over the hem in their shirt:D

Can you be a starlet at 22?

Yes at any club except Southampton were you must be the finished article playing to full international standard before the end of your teens, other clubs appreciate that not everyone is a Theo Walcott or a Gareth Bale! Plenty of big name professionals haven't made a huge impact until there early to mid twenties and some even later in life.

Wasn't he rumoured to be joining us when AP first took over and wasn't it pointed out that he was even shorter than Gillett? Might be thinking of someone else though!

Well of course, we shouldn't discriminate against players on account of stature. (I recall some who criticised us for signing Peter Crouch, for opposite reasons, of course)

We have a very poor history of utilising players of this build, including releasing juniors like; Dennis Wise AND Kevin Phillips (back in the 1980's ).......(mmm...wonder what happened to them ?)

Regardless of shoe size, or length of shirt tail, we should give Cox a chance and hope that ..IF Simon Gillett goes permanent at Doncaster... he doesn't move on and end up playing Prem.League with some team or other in 3-4 years time.

I wouldn't worry about that too much TBH.

Iv seen him at Brighton station a couple of times as i live nearby, he is as small as said. Tiny. From what iv heard he has got talent but is a bit hit and miss, and might have a bit of an ego thing? Wether thats true or not i dont know. A winger who comes inside a bit i think.

So we have established that this Cox is tiny and comes inside a lot.

Should be OK if he can stroke the ball around a bit and occasionally stick an oar in.

Maybe he'll be able to provide the penetrating runs into the box we're been missing, although as he's only a "starlet", I hope he can concentrate to deliver the goods rather than mess up before he's in a good position.

What's a West Coast Eagle - does it play rounders or netball or 'soccer' in America, or some such thing?

Aussie Rules.

Blimey, I'm in trouble when my son reads my query - he's heavily into Aussie Rules; an Englishman playing Australian Rules for Ireland in Croatia last week - how Irish is that?

Only in Australia could they have bunch of blokes in shorts 3 sizes too small, running around a cricket pitch booting a rugby ball about and call it football.....

Don't forget the two butchers who stand behind the goals doing that robotic dance when someone scores.
