Brian Howard

He hasn't been playing in L1. Why do people obsess over stats without having watched the player? Maybe he lost form, maybe fitness, maybe injuries, maybe out of favour. All players have these stages in their career.

He's local, would give everything for the club and be playing at a level below his ability. Would be a great signing.

agreed but I bet it doesn't happen :-(

Brian Howard rang my son this morning, as I got him to send Brian a text last night which he responded to this morning. Firstly this site is grossly premature. That is not to say it can't happen but it is a long way from where it is implied here. I think he has had an injury earlier in the season and as Reading are doing well has to wait his chance.

Ok great so now when NA signs someone we have never heard off there will be a massive wave of disappointment and comments that either a) saints wont spend the appropriate cash or b) NA doesnt have the gravitas to attract a face. Add to the fact that the fans will turn on him at home after 14 minutes of his debut and then boo him off.

Clearly im talking about myself here and not all the other tolerant and realistic fans we have ;)

That really is s**t. Defensive/holding midfielder or not.....that's s**t.

Does the side suffer from a lack of chances and goals when Morgan plays? If no then there is no need for me to roll out the Makalele/Mascherano stats

We've won all 3 games since Morgan got injured, scoring 8 without conceding. Poor form I know, but it could be a lot worse.

I think there's a need to roll them out and do a comparison. It's only this second half of the season he has been of any real value, about 6 games before he got injured. Previously his defensive displays were petulant and not putting in the effort.

Prior to his injury he was doing the defensive midfield role extremely well and at last some value to the team. I hope when he comes back he continues in that manner but it's not been that great a length yet. When he started putting in those performances I said exactly as you, he does not need to do anything else when he is that solid.

Nicely ignoring the 1-0 loss at Walsall when he was only on the park for 4 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you have to take one of your central midfielders off after 4 minutes, it's going to create a problem whoever it is. Especially as Hammond and Chaplow were already on the pitch and we had to bring on Guess to replace him, who is a completely different player. Besides, from what people have said on here we had chances, but didn't finish any of them off at Walsall.

Or you can take everything at face value, in which case it's still 3 wins and a defeat. 2.25 points per game without Morgan, compared to 1.73 before Morgan got injured.

So your comparing a 4 game sample against the rest of the season ??

And thats scientifically sound is it ?

I'm not the one saying we struggle when Morgan is missing. I just pointed out that winning 3 out of 3 (or 4) isn't exactly struggling. Conversely at the start of the season, after Pardew left, we went 5 consecutive games without a goal and Schneiderlin played every minute. We weren't all on here saying, "Schneiderlin is crap" because there are other factors at play. In that case, not having a manager.

Why does anyone think that suddenly, the club is going to change their tight-lipped, secretive, professional, wont-talk-about-a-deal-until-its-done stance and start blabbing information to the world?

Nobody had even the slightest, genuine clue that we were going to sign a CM until NA mentioned it, but yet everyone is now suddenly ITK. Really?

Exactly! In fact, any possible transfers that have been leaked have very quickly gone down the pan soon after.

If there was any truth in this one the chances are it was dead and buried the moment it was leaked.

The club like to do business behind closed doors and don't mix well with gobby people that like to hike the price via the press or rumours.

The more rumours there are the more surprised I will be if the deal actually happens.
