Oxlade-Chamberlain- Injury update

Season in doubt...ffs. Talk about focusing on the negatives. Lallana being back is a million times more important than Chamberlain being out for at least 2 weeks.

This... Oxo is an impact player yes and he can turn the full backs inside out but he rarely if ever has played a full game. We have plenty of cover for him, we don't have the right cover for Lallana though, him bing fit is absolutely MASSIVE!!

Errmm.... I took him to mean that Chamberlain's season was in doubt, not the whole club's. If he isn't even being assessed for 2 weeks he may well be out for the rest of the season.

If I had to choose between Chamberlain and Lallana it would be Lallana every time for me too btw. In 2 or 3 years' time, who knows?

the infamous 'give it to the left back' season? Or the 'give it to Theo' season?

The "give it to Theo" half-season.

Difficult to know the direct impact it had, given that we also got shot of 14 others and had a new manager within those 2 months, but we spent the rest of 2006/7 looking at the line below, not the line above.

If he isnt being re-assessed for another 2 weeks, chances are his season is finished, considering we are only talking about ~ 6 weeks left.

I think this could have tragic consequences. He has been called an impact player - exactly what we need when turning 1pt into 3pts in only one game may be critical.

However, referring back to the very unpoular thread I started last week, it could make all the difference having a fit and rested Oxo in the playoffs.

Great news about Lallana being fit though, really didnt fancy our chances over the next 10 games without him.

But we did, Burley gave him a role for every match, right back, midfield whatever, as long as he got a game it didn't matter where.
Playing him LM at QPR away(?) was a personal favourite of mine, especially as Wright thought he could try and be a winger.

It all depends on the severity of the Sprain, obvious indications show that there's heavy swelling around the Ankle, however there isn't a break. What Chamberlain would have done to aid his recovery is rest his ankle, ice it and obviously compress and elevate it. Take it from someone who had a similar injury in the past 5/6 weeks. That can take weeks off a sprain, so if all goes well he'll be available for the last 4 games.

The comments from Adkins "we're totally shutting Alex off" in a couple of weeks the reassessment will be to do with how much he can turn and roll his ankle and if the swelling has disappeared entirely. If we're being optimistic he'll be back in light training in two and a half weeks and back to games in four weeks.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Solent: "He saw a consultant this week, and we've shut Alex down totally.

"He's a young boy so we have to make sure we get it right."

He added: "We'll re-assess the injury in the next week or two."

Does Adkins think Chamberlain is some sort of nuclear reactor - "shut him down" - LOL I do wish he would just speak clear English,

Interesting selection dilemma for Saturday then.

An obvious alternative is to play Stephens with Chaplow and Hammond and stick Lallana at the top of a diamond. Alternatively you could move Lallana to the right and play N'Guessan or Forte on the left, or play Guly on the right.

Whatever happens, we will still have a strong 11 and a good bench so no reason to panic.

He's now rebooting nguessan and charging forte while syncing guly.

Well, as long as he doesn't defrag the whole team... Joking aside it's good to see that they are protecting a young and still growing player. They'll obviously know how much growing he has to do but from his compact physique he looks almost there. Gobern, being much taller seems a later developer which is why I think he still has a future, and why recently he seems a bit more co-ordinated and less bambi-like!

Sounds like a Dalek to me.

Like many I'm not as concerned with AOC being out, we're probably gonna lose him in a couple of months anyway so a good opportunity to get him in tiP top conditiOn for the auction.

On the plus side we'll hopefully use my man Guly a bit more and I think he's more suited to Saints long term plans than Alex is.

Oxo and Lallana are `Saints going forward` we dont have backup which has creativeness and skill to get past players. If we have Lambert deep and wide trying to hold and feed to just Barnard thats not an attacking option. N'gussen and Forte are not these type of players and dont have pace at all, they are more ummm well not sure, ca they keep the ball, get rid of it quickly and shoot...no I think they are cover for last 10-15 min subs not attacking players. I just hope we can see these players as we expect them ! Thats why brighton are top and Saints far too many points behined, we dont have the squad...on paper with no bans, injury setbacks sure the 3 points can be scapped out but 3 out from 1st 11 thats only 8 giving an unbalanced team and inconsistant.

I want to now see Saints consistant in all the last games.

Nigel said he bought Forte in becuase he was quicky and pacy. I haven't seen enough of him play HTBH (just a couple of sub apperances) but it seems strange the manager thinks he is quick and you say he has no pace.

He's got pace and energy, but I can't recall a game in 2011 where he has come on and we've gone on to get 2 more points from the game.

Totally summed it up. The Lallana news is much MUCH more important at the moment. Hopefully Guly will put in the sort of performances he diud around the turn of the year.

Guly always looks lost on the wing though. His best performances have been up front. Surely AOC is a straight swap for N'guessen.

This news will mess up our oppositions game-plans no end. Although very effective I think we were getting a bit too easy to read.

I Predict a few nice early goals in the next couPle of games. Let's see what we're made of?

not knocking him, as we are lucky to have him and of course would play him if fit - but he does drift out of the game at times - expected for winger of his age. Another option may not bring the brilliance but may put in team performance?
