  1. 1. Who do you want as manager?

Roy Hodgson was asked about Southampton’s situation during a question-and-answer session with England supporters during the team’s training camp in Miami. “If Liverpool are signing all these Southampton players, I have to presume they are signing them to play, not stockpile,” he said.

“I’m afraid Southampton have become a victim of their success. I feel sorry for teams when this happens, when the team gets broken up, but it is a fact of life that bigger clubs have more financial power. Life isn’t fair. The good news is Southampton will be very rich. The bad news is that you might have more [Dani] Osvaldos.”

Extract from the Observer story today on Steve Bruce being a contender. Another example of Woy Hodgson interfering with our transfer policy. It might be true but when I see the same story pushing £15m for Lallana and £10m in add ons I can help but wonder if Hodgsons impact is not only costing us players but money.

I hope Koeman has the steel to reinforce the boards statements that we are not selling.

Kreuger is not in charge of the manager role, that is Reed. :mcinnes:

From what I can gather from numerous people, Krueger is very much a hands off type of guy, who is more than happy to delegate and allow others with more knowledge of their departments to take control and make decisions for themselves. Krueger is purely there to be a chairman, for the major decisions, to be a figurehead, and lead the rest of the team at the club. Cortese was leading, running, taking control, getting too involved. Complete contrast to Krueger. As far as i'm aware, the staff at the club seem much happier and more relaxed with the new setup.

He will, alongside Reed, have a massive part in appointing a manager, so the notion that he isn't in charge is rubbish.

My question is' date=' what's Kreuger doing in Miami when we need a manager?[/quote']

Personally I am amazed it took this long for someone to post that. I had SaintRichmond in the sweepstake, so have to say I am disappointed.

Exactly. What's the point in being a chairman if you have no say whatsoever in who the manager is. Or even no involvement in the interview process.

How much involvement do you think Bruce Buck has had in Chelsea's managerial appointments, transfers etc. in the years he's been chairman there? Or Sir Chips Keswick (yes, really) at Arsenal? I suspect that Krueger's position at Saints is closer to that of Buck or Keswick than to Lowe or indeed Cortese in their times with us.

We are not Chelsea or arsenal though.

It's now all about Kruger and what he has to say. It's like he has taken over the mantle after les reeds initial, I comfortable with the MOPO situation, before the season ended

I used those two clubs as examples only because in both cases, the chairman does exactly what chairmen do in most businesses run by a board of directors - they are non-executives who don't get involved in the day-to-day running of things. Thus far, everything points to Krueger's role being closer to that model than to the executive chairman position that Cortese had.

So I don't think it is all about Krueger at all. I'm sure he'll be the person who communicates with fans, press etc. on behalf of the board, but that doesn't mean that he'll have anything like the level of involvement that Lowe or Cortese had. Time will tell I guess.

You may well be right about Krueger's role' date=' I have no idea. It would seems strange to leave decisions solely to Reed though, considering that Cortese's autonomy appears to have been one of KL's issues with him.[/quote']

I would think that Kat would want a say as well considering she will be paying the new guy and his training staffs wages. Whilst she might be happy to let Les and possibly Ralph select the candidates, if I was her I would be wanting certain assurances regarding longevity, ambition and whether they have Daniel Levy as one of their Orange (rather appropriate considering the preferred candidates origin) magic numbers.

This really. It will be a consensus decision as to the best fit for the club, as it should be.

We have two key players in Miami for a start. Why aren't we doing all we can to keep them FFS. Oh. Maybe we are.

I wonder. I hope we are, really do. If so it's like the Board woke up after the fans went nuts that they sold Lambert for a song. Still a long way to go in pre season, but I am more hopeful than I was 10 days ago.

Concensus can mean that we get the least worse candidate. Better that the specialists make the key decision, albeit in consultation.

There can be too many on a panel. Clearly Les Read and Kaherina need to agree. Finance needs to be agreed on, then health and fitness.

We witnessed what a mess all the Board got into when first appointed.

What mess did the board get into when first appointed? Meltdown by some on here doesn't equate to anything in the real world.

Ill advised statements like 'we have financial difficulties' that were interpreted by the vultures that we are now a selling club, followed by indecision and confusion when Mo Po finally left.

Fortunately lessons seemed to have (hopefully) been learned, ever since the belated statement that no decisions over player movements would be made before a new manager was appointed.

Someone should tell Roy that we don't actually need the money. We already are very rich. From what I can gather, we're lacking 1. Champions League football and 2. People lobbying for our club from within the England squad, including the captain and manager.

It's like going to the French castle and asking if the guy would like to join the search for the grail. Roy says that by selling these guys we can get a great big pile of cash.

"Tell 'I'm we already 'ave one!!!"

Basically nothing then apart from stuff people on here get upset about.

In the two weeks since the season ended. What has Les Reed achieved for the Club in that time?

1. Lost the Manager within 2 days.

2. Lost the top striker.

3. Not signed a single player from outside.

4. Not signed a new Manager.

PS - Also fired the two people running the youth team before the season ended, upsetting some of the key young players.

Did Les actually have a plan, with targets, milestones and actions to achieve things in the post season?

Why do some people gun for Les Reed? Since he joined us we've risen from dead as the dodo to half way up the Premiership, got our record of seven players in the World Cup and developed the finest academy in the country--he must be doing something right!

In those 2 weeks Saints have no wins, no goals, have put in 0 effort... This is awful!

Please be aware that Uncle Les is the only one in the running of this football club with any knowledge about football. That's a frightening thought.

He was the only one in the running of the football club with any knowledge about football for the five years previously as well.

With 83% in favour of Koeman, just do it. You can't please everyone all the time, but you can please a lot of people (83%) this time!

There is a little detail that Koeman apparently wants assurances that there will be no players leaving. While Bruce has not as far as is known stipulated that has to be a condition of him coming here.

Al negotiating points of course.

Source? If that is correct as stated then he won't be coming because its almost certain that Shaw is gone, plus Lallana very likely too.

He might well be seeking assurances beyond those but I would think anyone coming in knows they won't have those two at their disposal unless there is a huge change in the landscape.

He might be told that they are off after the World Cup for all we know

He might want assurances that the fonte's, Morgans and lovrens of the squad will NOT be sold
