Southampton Football Club can confirm that Gastón Ramírez has joined Hull City on loan for the rest of the season.

With Ramírez keen for regular first-team football, something has been further limited by recent attacking additions to the squad, the Uruguayan has been allowed to join the Tigers on a temporary basis.

23-year-old Ramírez will not be allowed to play against Saints when the teams meet this season, and will return to St Mary’s next summer.

Squad player, signing of Mane pushed him further down. Bit irritated he was loaned to a rival, but we get a decent fee, no wages for a year, and he's back with us in 12 months and we'll see how he got on.

Presuming Mane will sign, but not announced yet. Hope not tempting fate.

We'll miss the feeling of 'hey, at least Gaston's on the bench' more than we'll miss his actual contributions on the pitch.

Wasn't going to get a game and hey, if Hull give him a regular run in their side that's more than Pochettino ever gave him. Might come back stronger.

Played just 500 minutes for us in the league last season.

Thats a combined 7 games.

Wont be a starter for us, wont be for Hull either.

Forget the hype that he arrived with...... Hes been very poor all considered

I'm a big fan of Gaston "the potential", but when you read stats like that, you realise Gaston "the reality" is a big old frustrating disappointment

Spot on, the thought of Gaston is nearly always better than the reality.

We all wanted him to be a success as he arrived with a huge reputation and for a record fee.

Sadly its not worked and we move on.

Still feel he never really got a genuine chance.

Far too often he was brought on with 15 minutes to go, played out of position when we were defending a 1-0 lead away from home (or whatever) and of course, struggled to create anything, which gave his critics the chance to frantically point "see!? SEE!? he's rubbish!"

Still, I remember him in matches against Villa, Newcastle, Arsenal, Everton etc. at home in the first season and he was terrific. Even against West Ham at the weekend he kept the ball very well and looked incredibly comfortable and assured in possession.

Ahwel. Best of luck at Hull Gaston.

it's a good deal even if Hull only pay his salary for a year.....(wasn't he supposed to be on £35K / week from the beginning?)

we're never going to get back the £12 million-worth of his fee, but the less he costs us from now on ....can only be regarded as a plus.

Even for his occasional flashes of brilliance, he was never fit enough to play regularly, and seldom first choice anyway.

Financially speaking....a very good deal....football-wise...(sadly) we'll never miss him.

Ridiculous considering he was our record £12M signing only a few years ago, seemed this was to be his breakthrough season after the loss of some key players gave him a chance to shine and he looked like he was up for it in the performances this season when he came off the bench, just think Hull will see the best of him as he will have a point to prove too, just hope they don't finish higher than us or it will be even more gut wrenching, hope RoKo knows what is doing in taking a punt with this Mane fella too

Just knew this would be the reaction. The bloke has taken a ton of flak since he signed but now he is off he is suddenly a key player???

Yup, that sums up our schizophrenic fanbase! He's not really delivered on his promise, but he's not a bad player. Perhaps with a season of first team football under his belt at Hull he'll come back to us next season a better and stronger player?

Just want to check you take the same attitude to Redmond, Townsend, Welbeck and so on? Opinion is fine, but I'm seeing some people seem to say incoming players and targets are good because they have potential and something to prove, but for some reason that doesn't apply to our own players?

All 3 of those have done a hell of a lot more than Gaston Ramirez at this level

Hope he does well up North. I like his style of play but get the frustration with him too. I'm sure the freeing up of the wage bill was a big part of the move; my only concern is if Tadic gets injured there isn't a lot of creative play in the side and that is where he could have shone this year.

WELL THAT WAS A SHOCKER, everyone.....sorry, some people had hope that this would be his year to shine, agree he made a good effort at the end of the season when given games. This year he looked ready for the challenge, still noticed his flaws (giving the ball away with poor ticks or passes) but also displayed his brilliance at times. So we see Gaston on the field (not much for 2yrs) but the coaches see him all the time. What did they see, a lazy player in training? (Roko has shown Tadier the door with his skill but lack of desire). A player too injury prone to continue to pay his wages on the rehab table? Just not good enough in training, continuing to make too many mistakes? or just doesn't fit ROKO style? very curious indeed.

Oh well, Hull can now see if he can stay fit, and I think if he can, and Bruce plays him as AM we will see him improve each game. He is on loan, no mention of option to buy. So if he is great for Hull we can take him back, just like the big boys, feels kinda good :)
