Summer Transfer Window 2019

Do we have any fairly reliable sources of information on the forum any more?

I am aware that one deal is as good as done. One is close to as good as done. Two more are possibly soon to be close to a good as done. Plus a lot of super fun this week.

So basically no, I have no idea, but at least I am honest enough to admit it....

The market only picks up once some of the big teams start getting a few deals done.

Its probably about replacements replacing replacements and so on.

Let’s say we wanted a Leipzig striker and 20m was accepted then it’s them that needs to get a replacement in before it’s public knowledge as their targeted replacement price would go up.

Ps if this does not make sense then not too worry as I stayed up to watch the AJ fight :/

It seems that our first signing is usually around the last week of June. Hopefully we can sign one player without having to wait for the dross to go: Austin, Carrillo, Boufal, Moi, Hoedt, Cedric, Forster, Stephens. I fear we won’t be able to do much until we can shift some of these. That will be tricky.

Dutch media reporting that Kevin Strootman has been told he can leave Marseille. He might be 29 years old and had a few injuries, however he would be a massive upgrade on any of our current midfielders and bring loads of experience. Might need some convincing joining us.

Not based on the season he 's just had at Marseille he wouldn't. He is either toast or can't be arsed, whichever it is we need to steer well clear of him.

Complete opposite of the type of player we should be going for. I'd much rather we signed a 50:50 Mane/Moi player than signed more over the hill Ings' and Austins.

Bournemouth have offered more for Dragowski according to Alfredo Pedulla, who reported our bid yesterday.

Dragowski sounds like a great prospect - would be a shame to lose out to them.

As we did with Mepham. Quite alarming if we are being left behind Bournemouth in the transfer stakes.

On the other hand this bloke could be another Bialkowski.

Arsenal seem to want Ozil out. Just saying. :(

And he'll still want his 300K a week or whatever it is that he gets... so that's a non-starter for all but a few elite clubs with sponsors money to throw out of the window then, most of them wouldn't want him either..

it's not alarming.Their budget is pretty similar to ours and they have not ladened themselves with quite so many monstrous contracts, a la Forster, on players that never play. They also still have a few players they brought with them on their promotions, and they will inevitably be on lessor contracts than big signing coming in, even if they have been increased during their time in the top flight. That's before we look at their owner and his willingness to back the side with funds/loans.

If anything I'm actually relieved we aren't just chucking whatever it takes at players to outbid our rivals. On top of what we've got now, we could also have the likes of Defoe and Walcott on massive contracts, who we can't shift.

Although if we'd have got Walcott in January of 2018 we might not have saddled ourselves with the utterly useless Carrillo.

Bournemouth are definetely in the market for a new GK. I thought they were in for Butland but this guy would be way cheaper.

Well that lad that they fielded against Spurs last month looked handy enough. Probably needs more experience before he's first choice though.

Agree to an extent but at some stage if you have identified the players you want and who you think can make the team better than you have to go and actually get them.

Most of the PL clubs outside the top 6 are looking at the same pool of players so the ones you really want you may need to pay slightly over the odds (within reason) to get them. Pointless missimg out on top targets for the sake of one or two million given how much cash is around.

I don't doubt that Saints identify good players to bring in. But I do doubt the ability of the club to actually get good deals over the line and now we have little idea who is actually performing that role at the club.

Well thats a damming indictment of our transfer policy and planning when you go from missing out on a diminutive speedster so opt for a cart horse instead. And to think the person responsible is now our DoF.

Have we announced a "released" list yet, or did we have no-one whose contract was up?

Not yet mate. Only Davo was really out of contract.

A fair few academy & U23 players are out of contract though so interesting to see who gets offered new terms.

Check out the contracts thread (1st post) to see the list.

Hot off the press :

16:26CARRILLO SET FOR ARGENTINA RETURN

Argentinian giants Boca Juniors want to give Guido Carrillo a route out of Southampton and back to his homeland. Sky Sports News understands they are among a clutch of teams interested in signing the striker this summer.

Carrillo joined the Saints from Monaco in January 2018 while his compatriot Mauricio Pellegrino was head coach – but it has not worked out for the 28-year-old at St Mary’s.

Carrillo has made just seven Premier League appearances and three more in cup competitions without scoring a single goal.

It is understood there are also clubs in Spain, Italy and Mexico who have expressed an interest. Meanwhile, Southampton are not trying to sign the Fiorentina goalkeeper Bart Dragowski, contrary to reports in Italy.

The Saints are not in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer with Angus Gunn, Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster all still on the books.

Whether any of those interested in Carrillo can afford him remains to be seen.

We're likely/definitely going to have to take a hair cut with this one. One would like to get our money back for the remainder of his contract (which is something like £10.5m). I doubt anyone would pay more than £8m or maybe €10m.

Re Dragowski (and lots of deals for all clubs), always intrigued as to whether not being interested comes before or after knowing a player is going elsewhere.

Man Utd masters of not being interested in players that they used to be interested in up until they knew he was moving elsewhere!

Am already bored of this all and it's only early June. At least we have pre-season to look forward to but our transfer windows are like when you meet up with a girl from a night out and remember her as a goddess so get all excited and then we end up with stig of the dump.

this is absolutely brilliant news. Hope it is genuine interest. Getting him off our wage bill is essential, no matter what the loss on the fee.

Someone on 606 saying deal is virtually done for the keeper. Links to an Italian website

He was rumoured to be on 12k/week. With a fee of £22m.

The damage is done regardless.
