Pompey 0-4 Saints - Reaction

Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Only 5 arrests, that must have included the Saints mush who jumped into their herberts and their pony-puncher. I trust the OB were filming all the skates rattling the low roadside barriers as our fans strolled past unchallenged, plenty of Saints fans got the 5am knock and even prison for that.

No idea if there was filming but would be surprised if there wasn't. They all have body worn cameras anyway. I'm sure that footage will be uploaded and sifted through.

Some left when the 4th went in, but the majority stayed until the end and didn't stop singing. As much as I dislike them they did get behind their team even though they were getting a thrashing.

Was a proper atmosphere last night, both sets of fans were giving it plenty.

Don't know where you were looking but there was a stampede for the door when the fourth went in. The atmosphere was great from the Saints end, but to be honest I expected more from them.

Watching the highlights back all the goals were good but Redmond's goal was ****ing brilliant when he is on his game the lad has serious talent.

Was a lovely run and finish, but I really love Ings' first. That first touch and turn were sublime. Had that been Salah or whatever Sky would have been totally jizzing themselves.

LOL. It was a perfect Heisenpost.

- lost phone - can't take photos - check

- 200 pounds - big man with wealth to show off - check

- Apple products - see above - check

- 3 hours sleep - tough guy image - check

- 1,200 miles - gets the distance utterly wrong - check

- PM boys - he receives hate mail all day every day, pity me - check

- Towie - name dropping to look important - check

Don't think I've ever sent a PM to him except for telling him to **** off after he sent a "respect me" PM.

What a ****ing bull****ting oddball.

Could he have been the guy blocking the view of the bloke Saints have given the Vlog video gig to.

yes hands up I had a peek at it.........sorry lads!

Doubt it. Everybody knows Heisy didn't set foot out of his smelly bedsit in Govan for one minute last night let alone go to the match.

I hope people realise the significance of last night. Saints fans that haven't even been born yet will be talking about this result in 30/40 years, much like we do with Moran, and saying how they wished they could have been there.

Those of us lucky enough to be there will never forget it.

Agreed... A night we will never forget.

Will admit I have at times been critical of saints fans, frustrated with the apparent silence during the Les Reed decline and while we applauded the player sales.

However after last night I realised (thankfully) that this forum no longer represents or reflects the saints fans in anyway anymore. The support was loud, passionate and a real credit to SFC.

Absolute pleasure to be part of it all and I'll be making more effort now to attend more games. Already looking at Man city and Arsenal away fixtures.

They do that when it is televised, to enhance the 'we are the greatest fans ever' myth.

It's easy to seem passionate by singing for a lost cause in a knock out competition. There was never a win on the cards. We all know they are just the same as any other supporters when the tits hit the floor in a regular league match

That Redmond goal from the side view, he smashed the Granny out of that!

Someone asked why the greatest fans on the planet were leaving when Redmond scored, there were a few who got up when Ings scored his second, looking at the Cedric goal seems a few weren't going for a half time beer as their seats are still empty!

People are weird - when we were in the final Man U went 2 up there were people on the lower level at Wembley who left their seat never to return, our daughter was on the upper deck and she said the same happened up there too.

I’ll be interested to see how sold out this weekends game is and how long before they turn on Jackett.

They already have. They were chanting "We want Jackett out" in their last league game and have been regularly booing their team off this season even when they've got a draw.

This is absolutely brilliant! Can't believe matey shared them unless it was one of ours in the home end? Our end looks ****ing brilliant!

As for the arrests, only one Saints fan for possession of pyro. That means the lad that broke through the police and waded into their lot was not only uninjured (no use of ambulances/ reports of serious injury according to official report) but also didn't get nicked! The mush will never buy a pint in the city of Southampton again! Another Pompey myth turned upside down, hundreds and hundreds of their famous 6:57 lining the roads but all held back by a 3ft fence used to direct queues in airports. Meanwhile the scummers not only turned up but one broke out the escort and got right into them.

Make no mistake, Tuesday night was a total nightmare for Pompey on and off the pitch. They live off the 6:57 thing as they can't cling on to anything football related due to their only post war success being aided by financial doping that saw local businesses shafted and charities out of pocket just so Kanu & Sol Campbell could earn £80k a week. The videos of scummers walking down Goldsmith Ave with their chests out and chins up as well as the carnage in the away end will hurt even more than the score.

Well done to everyone that went down there. I've been critical of our support but Tuesday was brilliant!

The scenes back in town also worth a mention. Looks like literally thousands out on the lash all day and ending up in Guildhall Sq.

Love the Saints and love the city of Southampton.

Top post. They’re going hard on the myth that we were church mice due to a video of one **** getting his phone out to celebrate.

Those that were there (cos the sky mics are moved away from the away stand) know the truth, including the blue few. We didn’t stop singing. Amazing bundles for the goals, half the seats broken, pyro everywhere.

On the journey to the ground I was in the small group that got the earlier train. 300 of us, thousands of them. They had every opportunity to do what they wanted. Police were holding us back, a curb was holding them back. I saw 2 people break away from our group.

1 ran across a car Park next to the Rifles Club and landed one on a skate before police bundled in. Then one ran into their crowd by the Pompey centre which there are videos of. Not a single one of them got close to us.

Don’t let the portsmyths win.

Regarding the comments on Higginbotham, it's no secret that he had a pretty torrid time here but since he left, it's come out that he gave Franny his FA Cup Runners up medal from 2003 as he didn't think he deserved it and knew how much Franny had given to the club. He also did it on the quiet as well, not as some great gesture to get noticed. Not even MLT knew until fairly recently. Can't bring myself to dislike Higgy.

Higgenbottom sounded like a Pompey fan he didnt say anything positive about our club at all

He repeated the story about the 'Welcome to hell' banner on the motorway half a dozen times along with the bit about some of his Southampton team mates turning white on the centre circle in the pre-match warmup. And, as you say, didn't say one positive word about SFC or its fans. All of the Sky Sports team seemed desperate for Pompey to win. Let's face it, it's all a load of bullsh!t. The Pompey Boo Boys are notorious for turning against their own team and regularly boo them off the pitch in their league games, and as for any fighting, about the only blows that have ever been struck in anger been landed by Saints fans, apart from the one to a horse. At least one Saints fan ended up in prison for punching Pompey fans when they were being escorted to the ground the last time they visited St Mary's.

This might explain it. From his Wiki:

Higginbotham rejected a new contract and as a result was placed on the transfer list in July 2006.He told the local press that he felt disrespected the way Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe had handled his contract – he had taken a pay cut to move from Derby, a 40% pay cut following relegation, and then the new contract offer was lower still than his current contract.

Totally correct about the noise. We were on it pretty much non stop. If they couldn't hear us that's more to do with them singing and there being 8 times more of us than them.

I couldn't hear them when we were singing. It's pretty simple, if 2000 people are chanting around you, you ain't going to hear what's going on at the other end of the ground.

Their lot had plenty of chance to get at our fans outside if they wanted to but chose to stand around shouting and throwing stuff instead.

This is going to be a massive story in Portsmouth for years to come. Like the cancelled fundraising match story and the mythical dock strike it's going to be dragged out by them before every derby game. https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/portsmouth-fc/southampton-fan-branded-plastic-for-waiting-to-celebrate-goal-until-he-got-his-phone-out-during-portsmouth-game-1-9086034

I think the most pathetic part of all this is the News actually deeming this worthy of a news story, talk about trying to score points over any trivial thing. Mind you, how anyone could think about getting their phone out when that second goal went in...…….

What is almost as weird is that there must have been Pompey fans filming every move Saints fans made and then combing through it all afterwards looking for something like this. As for the News, they know that any story which bigs up how 'hard' and 'passionate' Pompey fans are and how 'plastic' Saints fans are will sell well in Portsmouth. For the 'hardness' bit all they could find was one of their fans hitting a horse, which according to a thread on one of their message boards proved he was hard. They studiously avoided any mention of the Saints fans wading into theirs.

Maybe he wasn't filming himself but video phoning someone back home who he wanted to celebrate with. I guess if you look closely at a couple of thousand people for two hours you are going to find one or two examples of odd behaviour but you don't know what the real story is behind it so it's possible to put any spin on it you like.

Even weirder it was originally posted by a WestHam fan. Although is bio says he's engaged to a girl with the same surname so maybe he has Portsea connections.

A 52 year old bloke. Even by the standards of a cretinous retard within the PO postcode area surely he's old enough to know better..

Whatever the circumstances of this non-story, this bloke has clearly managed to get hold of a ticket to Pompey away, which is like rocking horse sh*t for us. A man who has managed to either do 6 away games or paid through the nose for a second hand ticket is clearly not a plastic. I think we should save such insults for the prawn sandwich eating, half and half scarf tourists at the Emirates.

Unless he the guy that bought the tickets for £1500 off twitter on Tuesday afternoon ? ;)

Firstly the match (the part I saw, see below):

- poor quality game, but who cares, albeit to be fair surface very wet down our end on side of pitch where dugouts were saw some struggling to keep on their feet

- Yoshida and Bednarek excellentg and should be nailed on to start at Spurs

- Romeu a real physical force, and Cedric good form rewarded with a goal

- never for one moment felt they would get back into it in the second half and only a matter of time before we added more. Felt we were in cruise control mode

- The moron who ran across the pitch to deliver hand gestures to 2000 Saints fans as we were all kept back is I am sure the pride of his family. Truly embarrassing

In terms of off field matters, had no option but to get train coming from work expecting to get to Fratton an hour before kick off, but Pompey fans got on the mainline and managed to stop trains and as a result Network Rail switched off power. As a result many Saints fans arrived very late after Ings’ first goal.

After the match fair play to the police who dont get too much thanks. Did a great job of safely getting everyone back to station past the maronic Blue Few, and despite some attempts at some “action” by a few locals on the other platform managed it all brilliantly and got those of us who did not need the non stop service back to Soton into sections of the train away from skates. Well done Old Bill, and I hope they lock up the jerk who punched the horse and throw away the key

We got the 6.25pm train from Eastleigh and did not get to the ground until 35mins after KO due to there idiots, wish we had got the 18.10pm football special now.
