Looks a decent footballer. Interesting that he plays both on the wing and in central midfield, with an nice combination of attributes like athleticism, dribbling, shooting and tackling. You can see from his youtube video why Rennes paid €12m for him. There are a lot of goals scoed for Glint. Questions do have to be asked why Rennes are giving up on him after only half a season. Have they made their mind up already that we can't `do it' at their level? That seems strange. If they are right, then he won't be much use at our level either.

they said his days we're numbered if he'd stayed in France

Now he's on the south coast and thinks Pompey's really pants.

That’s the spirit 😆 Maybe Rennes needed the money, and/or maybe he fancied moving to a bigger club and a nice payrise?

Liked in his interview that he specifically mentioned he likes to run and press.

Hopefully he does well and financially is a viable option for next season.

Some google translate posts from Rennes’ mboard. Disappointingly they seem alright for a bunch of Frenchmen.

15M was with the 3M bonus and it is possible that his former club did not receive much, given his playing time and his performances. But not exactly a glowing endorsement of him.

For those who find his career choice strange, joining the bottom of the Premier League still remains an opportunity to enter the big leagues and the most beautiful football championship in the world. In addition to leaving a club plunged into a deep crisis and managed haphazardly, he is also leaving a championship in economic and soon sporting bankruptcy. So okay, the Championship extends its arms to him. But in the meantime, he's in the Premier League spotlight. Surely a childhood dream for him which is coming true with the increased desire to get back on track. We are really not in a strong position to mock his career choice.

How can players say to themselves that if they cannot win in Rennes, they will succeed elsewhere? It's beyond me.

What a leap for the last of England! This type of player who doesn't last 6 months, that says a lot about his mentality in the event of a battle.

He is on loan with OA, will the English club spend 15M on him to play in the championship? So if it turns out he's looking for playing time for 4 months, before coming back this summer to take stock, see where Stade Rennais is at, who is the coach and does he have any touches following his playing time in the Premier League which will be higher than if he had stayed here.

Yeah... relaunching in a team in the doldrums (worse situation than ours) in a championship where they get stepped on every weekend and where their only ambition is to defend well so as not to lose their bags, There's no worse context for an offensive player who wants to fiddle with the ball and produce great team play. At least, it will build his character and physique. Perhaps he will come back with less qualms and more "fighting spirit", like Assignon after his loan to Burnley last season?

No wonder. His record is cataclysmic.

I'm not normally one to judge players straight off the bat, but this fella does seem to tick all the usual Sport Republic boxes... i.e. might turn out to be a golden nugget but more probable than not he'll turn out to be another low budget flop. If there's any room in the Saintsweb "Happy to be proven wrong" club, then save me a place ;)

He's not remotely Premier League quality but I assume we're looking at him with next season in mind. Should be a decent addition for the Championship.

Looking forward to seeing him play. Looked great for Glint. Let's see if he can do it in the Prem. 

Rennes tend to balance their books. But, maybe you are right, they are getting rid of him so they can get someone better in or he simply forced the move despite them only bringing him 6 months ago. Either of your explanations doesn't paint him in a great light though does it? My explanation is that he hasn't really worked out, hence Rennes are happy to get their money back, like they did with Sulemana, while on our side we are bringing him in based on what he did at Glint, not over the last 6 months. Again, similar to Sulemana - judging him on earlier promise and not his more recent performances at Rennes.

I guess sometimes moves just don't work out, so moving quickly makes sense for all parties. Considering our current plight, I think this is a pretty decent signing for us. Doesn't mean it will work out, but better than no one, which is what I expected this window.
