If he was just not very good but putting the effort in I could accept that. He isn’t running, jumping, tackling or moving. So you can feel bad that people are booing him but maybe he should try a bit harder. I can think of plenty of average players (eg Omerod) that just worked hard and were loved by the fans. To get through bad patches you need hard work but if he isn’t willing to do that then he’s going to remain pony and people will keep judging. It’s football. start putting some effort in and things might change

This is a good point he doesnt look like he is busting a gut but maybe no matter how fast he runs he just is a dude who looks lazy.

I do recall him making lots of runs in 1 game behind defenders for the ball to be played in behind but manning kept turning around and playing it back to CB's maybe he's thought why bother if no one is going to pass it lol

To put it in context, he actually makes Sekou Mara look competent, dynamic and engaged with what is happening on the pitch

Yeah the problem with Downs is that his role in the team requires him to get near to and then touch the football. Were it not for this he would definitely show some promise. 😉

He jumps out the way or ducks when the ball is coming towards him in the air and won't get into any physical battles. That definitely isn't confidence. That's just called being a pussy.

Did he? I didn't see anything from either of them. That's not a criticism either TBH, they were both thrown on hopelessly at the end of a game in which we were completely rudderless and could have played until midnight without scoring. Downs wasn't brought on as part of sublime tactical masterstroke, that was basically a 'stick a striker on and just hope for something' sub by a man who probably knows he's losing his job.

I am actually speechless at how bad Downs is. We must have never watched him before we spent 8million (!!!!!) pounds.

He sums up SR's approach to life. Wjy do something normal like buying an established, experienced centre forward like Moore or McBurnie? Lets try something different and buy a rookie centre forward from the German second division. 

In the same way they didn't go for a manager who knew the league, the players and what was required to get promotion like Coouper. Why not get a Will Still? 

Their reckless gambling is ruining our club.
