Sir Ralph Posted 22 October, 2025 Posted 22 October, 2025 (edited) If he was just not very good but putting the effort in I could accept that. He isn’t running, jumping, tackling or moving. So you can feel bad that people are booing him but maybe he should try a bit harder. I can think of plenty of average players (eg Omerod) that just worked hard and were loved by the fans. To get through bad patches you need hard work but if he isn’t willing to do that then he’s going to remain pony and people will keep judging. It’s football. start putting some effort in and things might change Edited 22 October, 2025 by Sir Ralph 5
Convict Colony Posted 23 October, 2025 Posted 23 October, 2025 This is a good point he doesnt look like he is busting a gut but maybe no matter how fast he runs he just is a dude who looks lazy. I do recall him making lots of runs in 1 game behind defenders for the ball to be played in behind but manning kept turning around and playing it back to CB's maybe he's thought why bother if no one is going to pass it lol

Maybe we need to start some chants to make him feel more at home. So on Saturday, a rousing rendition of "We believe that we will win" or "Defense! Defense!" should get him pumped up to score a hat trick.

Tommy Mulgrew Posted 23 October, 2025 Posted 23 October, 2025 Been looking at the free agent list and ignoring the small, the old and the completely unknown, these three strikers and one DM caught my eye. On has played in this country before but does anyone know anything about the others? All in all, I reckon I prefer Aribo; at least he is a known quantity. Our squad is too big anyway; I don’t know why I bothered! https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dembo-darboe/profil/spieler/699182 https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gerard-deulofeu/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/129476 https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-puscas/profil/spieler/208690 https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/idrissa-doumbia/profil/spieler/430579 1
Convict Colony Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 interesting but you'd assume something is wrong with them, broken or attitude etc, much like I think who is it bamford still unattached, obvs some long term issue.
Convict Colony Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 I didn't know the bristol city manager was his koln manager last season (sacked with 2 games to go in 2nd place), saintsweb knows nothing 🤣 a snippet from the echo We had a transfer ban in Cologne so one of my duties was to take this young player and develop him, and we did it together in a really good way. "He is a player with outstanding transition power, he has pace, he smells moments and he is so young. He is a player with outstanding potential. "Of course, in Cologne he had big trust, rhythm and gametime. He is a very sensible player but he had someone next to him to give him freedom. "The quality at Southampton is an outstanding high level, and with the quality of guys like [Leo] Scienza, he will find big chances in this position. "But yes, I have a big trust in this player, he is a really interesting player with a high level of potential," concluded the Austrian boss.
Weston Super Saint Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 He might fucking "smell" moments but he can't kick a ball.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 Yeah the problem with Downs is that his role in the team requires him to get near to and then touch the football. Were it not for this he would definitely show some promise. 😉 2
beatlesaint Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 (edited) I recall saying at the start of one season that James Beattie couldnt hit a barn door and he went on the score 20 goals that season. Therefore - Damion Downs couldnt hit a barn door ! There, you're welcome 😉 Edited 24 October, 2025 by beatlesaint 2

The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2025 Posted 24 October, 2025 Reports suggest he’s just training with Cov as a favour to him. As I see it, we’re at desperation stakes up front. So yes, hcdajfu imho tbh ffs. Even though he’s barely into double figures of goals since summer 2021. In fact he’d fit right in with our lot with that record.

spyinthesky Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 I know he didnt have much time on the pitch but reckon he only touched the ball once. I would struggle to put him in the Ali Dia bracket but at least AD didnt cost us £8m!!!!!!! 2
Osvaldorama Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 Make no mistake, he is in the Ali Dia bracket. Just not a footballer. The worst I’ve ever seen for us. 1
Pamplemousse Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 Yeah we have to cut our losses here. He's Non league standard. 4
LGTL Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 He’s never, ever, professional standard. No fucking way. When Manning smashed it across the box, he just had to move 5 yards for a simple tap in. But he fucking stood there and just watched it. Zero football brain, zero football ability. Absolutely disgraceful signing, probably the worst in our history considering the importance of the position. 9
James Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 It’s hard to imagine a worse signing and that really is saying something. 5
Osvaldorama Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 Says a lot that the u21 lad looks 100x the player in his 3 minute cameo 3
washsaint Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 I cannot believe the guy is a professional footballer. I think I would offer more at the age of 58! He actively seems to try and stay away from the ball: I know his confidence must be shot but, like so many of our players, he has no heart or grit. 4

What I cannot believe is the fact that Spors saw enough to decide that he'd be a good signing for us and that we paid any money for him. 1
Junior Mullet Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 I felt sorry for him. Looked really nervous getting ready to come on. Cant blame him for not being good enough for us. Not his fault the club went in for him based on some sort of potential they saw in him. There are non league players who would be a lot better for us. 4
Saint NL Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 Eight pounds is too much for this guy, let alone eight million. 1

Downs wasn't brought on as part of sublime tactical masterstroke, that was basically a 'stick a striker on and just hope for something' sub by a man who probably knows he's losing his job. 2

Tamesaint Posted 1 November, 2025 Posted 1 November, 2025 He sums up SR's approach to life. Wjy do something normal like buying an established, experienced centre forward like Moore or McBurnie? Lets try something different and buy a rookie centre forward from the German second division. In the same way they didn't go for a manager who knew the league, the players and what was required to get promotion like Coouper. Why not get a Will Still? Their reckless gambling is ruining our club. 1
