Southner Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago 3 minutes ago, Nordic Saint said: Let's at least give him a chance and get behind the team. He's done a tremendous job with the U21s, and significantly improved players. Their win at Tottenham on Saturday took them up to 4th in Premier League 2. He was also a first team coach at Barnsley when they made the Championship play-offs in 2021. He's certainly instilled some fighting spirit in that U21 team and he knows how to organise a defence as anyone who saw them battle to a a draw against the superior players of Real Madrid can testify. I'm expecting him to have a positive impact on our first team now, but, of course, he's still going to be hampered, as Will Still was, by Sport Republic's poor recruitment and the team's lack of a proper spine. Anyway, it makes sense to have an interim appointment now as I'm sure Sport Republic weren't anticipating having to sack Will Still. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league-2/table At least he's on the case with getting a striker sorted. Baz up top to bag us some fire power. 2

Not a random journo. If Ornstein is saying it then there must be something in it. I can’t believe they’d appoint him but, then again, I never thought they would appoint Selles off the back of one game… 1
Saint86 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Is he related to Selles? I reckon i've found Rasmus' type guys... Edited 8 hours ago by Saint86 8

We aren't at that stage yet. There are 33 games and a transfer window still ahead of us.

He was another coach “highly rated” by SR who won one game and got the job. SR didn’t “give up”, they tried to be clever and cocked it up. Let’s not pretend there isn’t a chance they do it again with Eckert. Might be unlikely but it’s definitely not zero chance which, to be clear, it absolutely should be as it should have been with Selles. 6

At this rate the next appointment could be somebody who has never seen a match. That was the person who recommended buying Downs for £8 million. 4
saintstowin Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago From those employees currently working within the club he seems a sensible choice for an interim seeing as he's actually managing (or at least in charge of) a Saints team at the present time, unlike the first team coaches.

Next manager could very likely question the number of players on the books, and prepare the squad for a game against the fucking Carolina Panthers next Sunday.

Convict Colony Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Based on what he has done for the u21s in a short time I hope he does a good job Weds. If we get a much improved performance then I'm happy for SR to string out the manager search a bit longer to see what he can do. At this stage I've given up on "names" just give me results now.
Saint_clark Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Part of me wonders if SR pulled the trigger now, before two "easier" games in particular Sheffield Wednesday, because two wins under this guy could help them sell his full time appointment. Put it this way - a lot of people on here were saying two wins this week wouldn't have changed their mind about keeping Still, so two wins this week for Eckert shouldn't get him the job either. Much like those demanding/hoping we kept Still until the end of the season, no matter what.

ErwinK1961 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago As others have said, he’s done a very good job with the u21’s and is a highly rated / regarded coach. Danny Rohl, who a lot of people had rather we appointed, had also not managed a first team game until Sheffield Wednesday. But now is just not the time for yet another gamble. The place is far too toxic at the moment and we need someone with experience to try and right the ship - if this guy gets the job permanently he will probably get about 5minutes grace from the fans. Plus if the players couldn’t be arsed before, this guy is hardly going to get them motivated. 2
