I'd be surprised if he stayed. Bree has a new contract, Roerslev is fit again and was signed by the current recruitment team. We don't need 3 senior right backs and would be hard to keep all 3 happy.

He could play ahead of Bree as a right sided midfielder. Probably more direct than Fellows 😬

I'm not sure I want to know the answer to this, but ... What on earth is the blurry object in the photo on the left?

Just his hand captured in motion in the first photo in the process of shaking hands in the second.

That’s all it looked like to me.

Hope not, Fellows is good, Sugawara is woeful and not a winger.

It's a good job the play offs have expanded with the likes of Blackburn making statement signings.

But are Blackburn making these signings? MLG says there's no link with Stewart (and he's often right) and I can't see anything on their website to say they are taking big names or Stewart or Scienza for that matter. In fact, Scienza has only said he's 'open to possibilities' = so he's possibly staying with us.

Ramsdale to Brighton? Just a guess given they're selling Rushworth.

Ignored the childish banter, it's the school summer holidays. Blackburn have not signed Stewart and they are not hoovering up any other players Saints would want

Ross Stewart was reportedly on £20k per week with us. Appreciate he also cost us £9m to sign.

I'd imagine at his age he's looking for a 2-3 year deal.

You'd have to be absolutely mental to give someone with his injury record a three year contract. Maybe that's why no one has signed him.

It was the main sticking point why he didn’t sign the contract on the table. We only wanted a 1 year deal, him 2 with an option of a third.

I don't think 2 years is unrealistic to be fair, depending on the salary

I hope we move on from Stewart for good. He may well prove valuable elsewhere but he cant be relied upon and it seems cant give us 90 minutes regularly or even for one game. And I do not think he is PL standard really.

I hope we go for a tall fast player more than capable for this league but with potential for when ee go up. No idea who but not Stewart.

I still think he could be an asset for us. When he first joined he was throwing in some delicious crosses for our midget-forward. Big Kyle would have thrived on them.

Now admittedly he made some simply woeful defensive mistakes....and a fair few of them. We're a stronger, more settled and confident unit now though, so perhaps that can be cut out?

Guessing he would want to be first choice though, and presumably we want the $$.

He might be useful,  but he showed he ain't good enough for the PL. His touch was shit, his decision making poor, pass selection crap and he was error prone. We have Bree, who has shown he is decent at this level, so let's sell Sugawara while there is still interest in him and then try again to find someone that might cut it at PL level at some point.

So, with the majority of the pre season matches now behind us, what have we potentially learnt from team selection?

Clearly, it has confirmed that we have two keepers surplus to requirements, but we knew that already.

Charles hasn’t been played, so potentially his departure is close and we don’t want him injured. Edozie might be in a similar position, as he wasn’t seen today, but there again, neither was Fellows.

BBB and Archer, and possibly Downs and Quarshie, have been tested, I suspect, with a view to deciding whether we look to twist or stick on them. Could we sell and do better, at what net cost? Sugawara will be added to this group.

I suspect that every player has a price on his head, and if an offer matches it, we will sell. Of course, some of those prices will be high, whereas others will be giveaway rates. Looking at the team Will Still selected for our opening match last season, it looks stronger than what we have available, but we know how that turned out. From that eleven we jettisoned a former Championship top scorer, a former Scottish international, part of England’s U21 winning squad, a Republic of Ireland and a Japanese international by January, and went from strength to strength.

Charles played in Brauschweig (2nd half).

Edwards v THB?

Sugawara v Bree?

Fraser v Scienza?

Robinson v Azaz?

Armstrong v Larin?

Plus Fellows, Jander, Roerslav, Dobbin

We are much better off

The only question is, will it be Still vs Lallana.

Plus the Championship is much stronger this year so yes it’s important we are stronger.

Its so important we hit this running from the off as that -4 start is certainly a burden if we do our usual slow start every season.

With the predicted departures and no real indication of arrivals, it's not looking ( at the moment ) that we are going to be stronger.

Eh? Are you suggesting we will sell first team starters without replacing them? Why would you think that?

They'd need to be a bunch of departures and some very shitty signings for us to pick a weaker starting 11 than first game last season.

You know what will happen, a few will leave and we will replace them with some randoms no one has ever heard of. Some of those randoms will be a hit, 1-2 may be shite. Its what we do.

I would hazard a guess that most teams in the prem (especially the top 6) will be signing players that people have previously heard of. We will be shopping in a different market.

I can’t say any of our last 6 signings have made the squad weaker.

I personally think our transfer network has been shit hot since Downs and I can’t see it changing.

I agree. We need to clear that and get in the running asap. I wonder if (after the mindset of last season's incredible run / chase) the players will pick up where they left off and be fully focussed on chasing down the teams above them - business as usual for them now?

Shift Archer, Diaz and possibly Downs.

Larin,

Salech and Ballard in

Not sure on shifting Downs personally.

i watched a 6 minutes YouTube clip where they are training in Germany.

He looks clinical and could be a surprise for some of us.

If Eckert wants him out then I will trust his judgement better than anyone else’s.

We certainly won't be selling Downs for anywhere near what we paid for him so another loan would be more likely anyway.  It's all well and good impressing in training and friendlies but that's a world away from real competitive games so at the moment I would say he's got an opportunity to prove he's worthy of a squad place.  Even that might be a stretch if we can't shift Archer or BBD.

Hopefully he comes good but he was so far out of his depth last season that it feels unlikely.

I have been told that we should only expect 2 major signings and they are both dependant on Stewart either resigning for us or not (currently our offer is the best on his table!) and Shea Charles moving, which is highly likely. So a replacement midfielder and potentially a new striker. Dobbin is definately NOT a Stewart replacement, he will be a RW and AZAZ relief replacement.

At this current time they are not expecting to lose any other major first team players.

They aren't likely to show him looking shit in training in a video on Youtube. He may have had 100 shots on the Germany trip training sessions and they just put the 2 he scored in the video! 😉

interesting as most of us assumed we’d have 2-3 big name departures lost likely Charles, THB and one of Jander or Scienza. Scienzas comments didn’t exactly suggest he was desperate to stay or leave by my issue is with him that at 28 convincing him to give it one more season might be a tough ask then doing that with Jander. Still think a lower half premier league club might come in for THB later in the window

I have to say, if that’s true then Stewart can get fucked and we should pull the offer. He rejected an extension, has had no pre season, and now he’s got our offer (which is his best one so far) and he’s still mulling it over incase something else comes up? No thanks, he’s made his bed let him lie in it.

I know this is far from confirmation, but if what you say came to pass and we had

Peretz

Bree Stephens THB Manning

Downes/bragg Jander/new cm

Fellows Azaz/Dobbin Scienza

Larin/Stewart

With maybe the likes of Downs,  Archer, Roeslev, Quarahie, wood, Edozie in reserve I would probably put some money on us for automatic promotion even with a points deduction. Obviously just speculation at the moment but that would be a stronger team than last year even without Charles. I still think THB goes because Blackmore yesterday seemed quite sure.
