my take on what my source told me is that they will only let any of our top players leave if we get offered a fee well above our valuation. The closer it gets to the closing of the window the more desperate some clubs become and will spend silly money on players. At present no one has put a bid in for any of our players that is acceptable. Therefore at present they are only planning on potentially needing 2 more signings, a potential Stewart replacement and a Shea Charles replacement who is seen as gone but just finalising the acceptable amount.

Is this Stewart or his agent? If you were his agent, wouldn’t you wait until you had what you considered to be all of the offers in before you sat down with him to make a decision? Yes, it is a pain in the arse for us, but it is his career.

So we get offered “silly money” for several players on deadline day. Do we still sell?

Personally without an immediate replacement already lined up to come in and as near as dammed it a guaranteed improvement or equal at worst then i would say absolutely NO. However it's not my money!

Obviously any last minute sale would be contingent on us having the time to sign a suitable replacement. That much is clear.

If it's true that we've only offered him a one-year deal then I think he's absolutely in his rights to look elsewhere

I’d argue he had plenty of chances to show something. Certainly more so than Downs (another seemingly limited player below the level we need) Sadly, IMHO, it was pretty clear from day one he is an incredibly limited footballer. I mean that debut…..at 6’7” and unable to jump!! But it’s all about opinions of course.

It's crazy how we all see things differently. 

I always thought he looked decent, certainly had his limitations for sure but he made a big difference when he played and looked far better than Adam Armstrong .

He is but I suspect he'll be disappointed and may well regret not sorting out a contract with us. His stock is not that high although being a free agent might help but, even then, he comes with a very bad injury history and will no doubt want decent money which few clubs at this level can afford to pay. I still think he's been badly advised by his agent but let's see how it pans out.

I think we got the message the last 41 times you mentioned Salech. He has never even been linked with us and I doubt Cardiff would sell him for anything we could afford.

His main strengths as far as I could tell were playing pub football against part time welders. 4 goals in 40 appearances for us in all competitions.

Time will tell at Fulham but like most ex Saints players I like to see them do well even if it didn't work out at Saints.

Who will offer him more, he's mde of glass and a huge risk for anybody that takes him on. Football is not a charity.

50 appearances in 3 years and he wants to leave us hanging before re-signing half arsed because no better offer comes in and we have to wait for him to get match fit again? No thanks.

If he would prefer the security of a two year deal then I don't entirely blame him

Okay boys my Neurodivergent ass back with  Ross Stewart replacements.

All the stats are below, these lads are strong all over 6 foot. 

Can you guess who is number 1?....

1. Salech 🤣 age 24:  Cardiff, 1.95m height, 14 goals last season.

2. Harry Leonard age 22: Peterborough 1.84m height, 16 goals, has championship experience with Blackburn.

3. Jovo Lukic, age 27, Universitatea Cluj, 1.90m height,  18 goals 

4. Tomáš Bobček, age 24, Lechia Gdańsk, 1.87m  20 goals.

5. Phillip Hoffman could be a good short term option 33 years old,  1.94m and 12 goals last season for Bochum.

6. Phil Harres  - 

Harres is the outstanding match: 24, 6ft 4in, mobile enough to press and still at Kiel. His market value is approximately €2.5m, although Kiel have no release clause.  10 goals.

 

Okay so the one we should sign is:

Southampton should sign Phil Harres.


He offers the best balance of performance, affordability, physical suitability and future value across the entire shortlist.


24 years old and 1.93m: ready to contribute now but still young enough to improve and retain resale value.


10 goals and three assists in 2,205 minutes for Holstein Kiel last season. Six of those goals arrived during his final nine league appearances, suggesting genuine progression rather than decline. Current statistics⁠�


Championship-suited profile: strong focal point, but more mobile and capable of pressing than a traditional static target man.
Affordable: valued around €2.5m.

Kiel have no release clause, so I would offer approximately £3m plus attainable add-ons, with £5m as the maximum. Current valuation and contract situation⁠�


Available: he remains a Kiel player; St Gallen and Udinese have reportedly monitored him, but no official approach has been made. Current transfer position⁠�


He also makes sense alongside Cyle Larin. Southampton have permanently signed the 31-year-old after eight Championship goals, while Ross Stewart—11 goals last season—has departed. Harres provides the younger, energetic long-term No.9 the squad now lacks.

Mentioned Salech a couple of weeks back. He's a very tidy player, having watched him live a couple of times last season.

I'd personally prefer him over Stewart coming back
