Fleetwood did similar (turned down £750,000) with Jamie Vardy way back in 2012 and eventually got £1m rising to £1.7m when he moved to Leicester, who were in the championship at the time. He obviously made the step up in divisions, although he didn't set the world on fire in the first season as I recall.

If they have played against you and run you completely ragged, I'm guessing your concerns about them making the step up disappear quickly.  I noticed on transfermarkt He was let go by Millwall and his full name is: Abdulsabur Oluwatosin Olubukola Alao Oladipupo Abdulmalik.

Stick that one on the back of your shirt.

Okay now Stewart is off to the Swans. Time to get a striker, one of these and we will get promoted 😅

Phil Harres,

Dom Ballard - Some will say nah he won't step up, I reckon he could do a job and offers something different.

Léandro Rousseau,  - Not a target man, more mobile penalty box type striker, 23 years old, 17 goals last season.

The obvious Salech.. 🤣

Pape Moussa Fall - 6.8 height 🤣 plays for Metz.

Rob Street - Lincoln ( younger similar to Stewart )

Ewan Ferguson ( on loan long shot)

Seems Ballard is off to Bristol City to join Tolaj who looks good. Fee is £5m we get about £925,000

Decent striker signings although something of a risk element (i suppose most are) but decent nonetheless. Skubala has a lot of knowledge of League One so he knows what he's getting.

Another Million odd for us though as we seek to get funds for new players.

A lot of that £5M will be add ons i reckon, especially with Ballard's injury record. He's a good player though if stays fit and certainly knows where the goal is.

I would still like to see him back at Southampton.

Bristol City doing some good business 👍

I liked the look of Tolaj

Regarding Ballard I'd also like to see him back at Saints and 5 million I reckon will be peanuts for him.

Yup, £4M for Saints. Would be a good addition up front.

Play him off Larin, perfect. Guess we're just fully focussed on the tall, athletic profiles up top now, which is probably the right road to go down considering what we've witnessed in the last five years. But, will be frustrating if Ballard becomes a £10m+ striker.

Who are you leaving him out to play though?

Fellows/Matsuki Downes Jander Scienza

Azaz/Dobbin

Larin

We play 4231, Azaz and Dobbin are the number 10 options to play behind Larin. What we need instead of a player like Ballard is another striker to play instead of Larin, for rotation/injuries like we had with Stewart.

Exactly my thoughts and was obvious from game at weekend where we had no focal point or outlet.

BBD should be that but isn’t he has the right frame but not ability.

I do trust Spors now and think he'll likely deliver, but after such a fast start it does feel like things have slowed right down. I appreciate we need to offload players first, but part of me thinks that if we're squabbling over £1m or so for Shea Charles, perhaps we should just get it done.

Look at Boro - they got Hayden Hackney out the door early and they're having a really good window so far, with supposed Saints target Phillips looking like he's about to sign too.

Maybe the summer's just gone on too long and I'm looking for something to moan about, but I really hope we're not left playing catch-up again when we're already starting the season with a four-point deduction.

If we did that then a very large number of people on here would be sarcastically talking about how we can't wait to sell our best players as cheaply and as soon as possible. If we can stop squabbling over £1m and just get it done, then so can any team wanting to buy. The only difference is he's our player, any we don't want to sell him at all, unless we get an agreeable deal.

We’ve got a perfectly reasonable squad as is and only really need to react to any unwanted outgoings. What do you want us to do? Phillips? Which of our 4 CB’s is he replacing? A striker would be nice but this idea that us being content with our squad is ‘slowing down’ is silly. But hey, winning the window is what it’s really about nowadays. Well done Boro.

Some clubs need cash sooner than others, that’s why some sell early on; nothing to do with being organised. It’s about cash flow.

You could interpret in any number of ways:
We don’t need to sell.
We don’t want to sell.
We can afford to wait out for higher offers.
We’re prepared to play hardball and not buckle.
We have no takers for any of our deadwood.

🤷🏻‍♂️

All the fringe players will be gone in three weeks or so.

Cool. I reckon we will see our mystery replacement signed soon. Get a striker in too then batten down the hatches and hope that no one goes big for any of our other big ones. Pray that THB stays.

I’m assuming but that’s presumably the transfer Tonda was alluding to at the weekend when he said we’d made some progress and were hopeful of announcing another signing soon. When we sold Fernandes last season we announced Jander the same day (and also completed the Fellows and Azaz deals) so I’d imagine they’re aiming for a similarly quick timeline with this one

The striker is the big one for me. Selfish maybe but I'm hoping we get a top signing like Azaz and Fellows were when we went for them last year. No guarantees either way of course but it would make the start of the season rather exciting and Dragan did say we would be stronger than last season. With Stewart and Charles gone (and potentially others) that's a big ask!

Yeah, me too. I like Larin but he did have games where he couldn’t do much right and wasn’t quite happening for him. I’m slightly relieved with Stewart going somewhere else as I was apprehensive about trying to get through an entire season relying on just Larin and Stewart

Agreed. Larin is good value and I think we might yet see the best of him, however overall a decent CF will be the difference a sustainable charge to the top will need. We wait with baited breath.

Shea going to Fulham for €30m.

Crazy money for him I feel, we done well to get that. Just hope we add on a % on his next sale incase I am wrong 😅

30m is stupid money as he’s not worth that.

Not a bad player for us but he does step up in some big game moments and I guess that’s why Fulham want him.

Who’s coming in?

Believe it’s the guy that was linked a few days ago and we won’t get a striker in until Archer or BBD are moved on.

Is Charles €30m package or will there be add ons and sell on clauses I wonder? We wait to see who his replacement is having missed out on Neil.

Yep, another player like Fernandes who will go for even more in his career.

A good player who I think might be very good but he’s definitely the sellable asset I’m happiest to see leave.

Absolutely gutted he's going. We'll need to spend big to replace as none of the other CM offer anything going forward

£26m would give us around £22.5m once you take off Man Citys sell on %.

What is their sell on percentage?

If he’s not interested in signing a new contract then it seems a reasonable decision to let him leave now for a better fee. To some extent it’s forced, not a case of him slipping the net.

We should look to maximise the sell on. I’ve been disappointed with the % talked of, 15% for Fernandes seems poor on our part. We were told we had a big or good % on Ballard, report yesterday was less than 20%.

He’s worth nowhere near £30M.

A decent player but blows very hot and cold.

Will be interesting to see who comes in, that’s a CM and a ST we need through the door now. 👀

He has improved in leaps and bounds and is definitely mid level Prem now. He will be a big miss for us this season and especially next if we do go up. His value will only increase.

Just got to get the replacement right.

Would have preferred to have kept him, but think we all expected him to leave.

No doubt, not a definitive starter, yet one of the biggest assets we have.

Really high ceiling.  We will miss his versatility but good luck to him.

Think this is a great move for both him and us, he didn't progress last year and probably wouldn't get much time this year, a straight loan to a top level and we see how he does.

The rumored figure that is being quoted is £25.7M (not £30M - you are quoting a euros figure in pounds). I would say that is a reasonable fee for Charles, and a good price for saints given we need to pay City their sell on. I agree with others who say that we'll look back on it as the one that got away, but right now he's a player we can afford to lose that brings much needed funds in.

Saints do need to sell, we lose £15M on parachute payments this year, and have the outgoings of Larin, Peretz, and Dobbin to cover with just the fernandes monies (which will be installments) coming in.
