Sound like a ban is imminent,  Saints pulled the statement from site. Saints acknowledge there will be a punishment I think so that's a ban it won't be a telling off or go to this class once a week. FA will make an example of Tonda just like EFL with Saints. I think 3 month ban at least to ensure we dont get enough points first half season to make top 2.

Saints app on my phone gave an alert that "SFC acknowledge the charges against Tonda..." or something but I now can't see anything. So they put something up then pulled it

Will be interesting to understand why they've deemed that Tonda "brought the game into disrepute" but Bielsa didn't. Could it be the "bullying" aspect is the differentiating factor...?

It was pretty planned, organised and repeated which makes all look a lot worse than Leeds episode

The FA haven't announced it yet for whatever reason so we pulled the statement. It doesn't signify anything really yet. The pulling of our statement doesn't signify anything positive or negative.

You certainly like running with an assumption don’t you? 🤣

Not really Bielsa admitted doing it for every game

Given we have seemingly admitted it, presumably the punishment can be announced fairly swiftly.

I don't think we know that.  The pulled statement said we "acknowledged" the charge, nothing around "admitting".

Though I suspect given the wording of the regulation we will be in the territory of admitting, and attempting to apply mitigation to the sanction (though hopefully a bit less naively than the first time round with the EFL).

Bielsa admitted to doing it many more times than Tonda... It sounded pretty well "planned, organised and repetitive" to me...

I was just wondering how the FA dealt with the Bielsa incident:

"A statement from the Football Association read: “The FA has on this occasion decided to conclude this matter by issuing formal warnings against Leeds United, Leeds’ manager, Marcelo Bielsa, and a club video analyst.

“Notwithstanding the FA’s decision on this occasion, the FA will take appropriate action should further evidence of this nature come to light in the future.”"

Not even a charge!

Shows we haven't learned from our handling of the EFL charges though. Really isn't rocket science from the club to respect the overseeing organisations FFS 🤦‍♂️

Presumably someone at the club was under the impression that it was being announced this morning.

So he's breached another rule which seemingly has an entirely open level of punishments which can be applied, sounds fair.

If he's banned from football for this then the whole thing is corrupt. It cannot be anymore than a personal fine and a touchline ban at most.

Otherwise they're saying that a manager headbutting a player is less severe, makes sense. He should have done that instead, one way to have ensured Hackney was out of the 1st leg.

But there still aren't FA Rules for spying as a specific thing. This is the common acting in good faith/bringing the game into disrepute rule, which Leeds and Bielsa also did breach at an FA and EFL level.

The FA can only sanction him on a rule they hold, and they don't have a rule for spying.

Banned from a play off final, 4 point deduction and the manager likely getting banned. They saw Saints as the perfect opportunity to flex their muscles unfortunately. We’re moving from a disproportionate punishment to a joke, frankly.

This is a pathetic case of bullying a club outside the rich 6. The media and Boros dodgy owner are to blame , in that order.

If this becomes a footballing ban as where he can have no involvement in any footballing related matters for say 3 months then it’s going to destroy our pre season plans. Hopefully he gets told he needs to go on a 2hr on line bullying and harassment course lol

I know I said this before we were booted out of the playoffs, but I cannot see the manager getting banned. Touchline bans at most, surely.

If they do ban him from football, and we are forced to appoint a new manager and upset all the players/plans, whilst we have already started pre-season...then football is over for me. It'll be done.

ChatGPT thinks a ban is coming his way.

"If I were estimating the outcome based on the available information, I would put the probabilities roughly as:

  • 6–12 month suspension: ~50%
  • 12-month suspension or longer: ~30%
  • Less than 6 months: ~20%

I think a punishment limited to a fine, warning, or a one- or two-match touchline ban is very unlikely given:

  • the FA has brought three separate E3.1 charges;
  • the conduct was allegedly planned and authorised;
  • it involved attempts to obtain a competitive advantage; and
  • it followed findings by the EFL that were highly critical of the conduct."

If he's given a ban that long, he's gone IMO.  Realistically, a club can't facilitate that kind of uncertainty.  What happens if he comes back and the club is flying at the top of the table under whoever comes in?

Suspended ban surely is fair, if you do it again you’re gone

that and a fine

surely anything else it’s beyond a joke

Jacob Tanswell and Alfie House hinting that they don't believe a ban will take place.

Ultimately not getting excited as nobody expected the severity of the play-off final but it would be fucking madness for him to get banned on top of everything else.

Presumably three separate charges isn't good but there will also be some sort of mitigation (a clean record beforehand, admitted it and fully cooperated with them).

Posted

We are nothing to them so they will swing the hammer as proportional hard as the EFL did to stay in line with them.

What seems on par with being thrown out of the playoffs? Probably a six or twelve month ban.

They can never punish the big teams, as it will damage their brand, but punishing us won’t. So this is where they can show their power.

How would they know. Clutching at straws I'm afraid. The guy's going down for a while

Well we knew this was coming.

FA - just get on with it FFS!  They’re moving at the pace of a dinosaur. Let’s hope Tonda doesn’t get extinguished by an incoming asteroid.

This. We knew it was coming. The timing just sucks. Hope we have a contingency plan, I'm sure we do i just hope it isn't Adam.

He didn't break a league rule, but wasn't he in breach of the FA's "bringing the game into disrepute" rule regardless? (To which the FA chose not to bring charges for)

Surely you can still 'bring the game into disrepute' even if there was no specific league rule that was broken...? In other words, I'm not sure why people seem to think the FA disrepute rule is conditional on breaking a league rule first...?

I expect him to get the équivalent of a slap on the wrists. A fine, perhaps a few games ban and a bit more suspended.

He actually broke the EFL's 'Acting in good faith to other teams' rule, and Leeds' were charged (only £200,000 fine, and he then admitted publically they breached this rule to all clubs, so should've been 23 counts).

Except it says Tonda has until next Tuesday to respond, a rather important point. It means it's likely that nothing more will happen until Tuesday (unless Tonda responds earlier). So we can speculate all we like for the next 6 days. When he does respond this will go to a disciplinary hearing which will hear his mitigation, so could drag on for a while yet.

After the EFL booted us out the play-off final, I always expect the worst now.

It's probably in our interests to respond as soon as possible in order to get things done and dusted asap?Would be surprised if Tonda (via Saints legal team) didn't already have a pre-prepared response tee'd up ready to go...

So the FA have taken nearly all summer just to decide he should be charged? Fab. Purely coincidental that they have got to this stage just after the World Cup is over and there is a bit of a lull in football news in the media?

Which is different to bringing the game into disrepute first willingly breaching a known EFL rule

They seemed to revel in giving us the worst punishment known to man, so we will probs get more of the same.

That was the EFL, this is the FA but I don't expect them to be much better.

God this fucking club is weak.

Stop ‘accepting’ things. Fucking contest it. We’re being double dipped here.

Get the best legal representation in the land and tell the FA to go fuck itself.

Sorry if Ive missed this but why has is taken this long for this to happen. Why not as soon as the league finished so we could plan ?

I'm assuming they'll ban him, for a relatively short period, and the ban has more impact if it kicks in during pre season than just after the season ends.
