Ben Gibson

After the disappointment of missing out on JM let's move swiftly on to our next target

Heavy ITK hints that Ben is close to joining.

Also seems we have no competition, so promising signs

Let's just hope he's happy to live away from his mummy.

Lad has a great aura

Hopefully this goes better than the James Maddison thread.

I'm optimistic on this one (wasn't on JM despite rumors saying he was close) seems that ITKs have this one as almost done and importantly we don't seem to have any competition (just now)

Some on here will be disappointed, a modern football playing CB, modestly tall 6' 1", not as tall as any of our current CBs, i.e. more suited to the current PL. Hope we get him, has been decent for Boro, will give us decent options for 3 at the back, possibly pushing Hoedt out until he gets over his current lack of concentration.

During their brief stay in the PL, Gibson only looked any good when they were playing with eleven men deep behind the ball, trying to squeeze out 0-0s.

As soon as they got into relegation trouble and had to try and win some games by being a bit more positive, they shipped goals for fun and Gibson appeared to be pretty limited.

Think Roger Johnson and Scott Dann back in their Birmingham days.

Good player IMO. The missus’ family are Boro fans so seen him play live a fair few times in the Championship and PL.

Strong in the air, good organisational skills, reads the game very well, and a natural leader. Should add a bit of grit to our back line which is much needed.

Not happening. None of Heisengow's threads pan out. It's almost as if he does it to jinx us.

Actually they do pan out - speculative thread, we don’t sign the player then he and Alpine get to slag off Les & co !

It’s called ‘Heisenberg syndrome’, very clever !

He was only 23/24 then, younger than Hoedt/Stephens, another year of experience since then, probably matured a lot, still only 1 year older than Jack and Wes.

No, they call it the "Heisenberg uncertainty principle": you can never know simultaneously the position and speed of a football transfer.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day...

FWIW, seems big noises from Boro end that he's on his way. Think he would be a really good signing.

Not bothered bang average we can do better....

We won't. Another squad player from a continental club, like Carrillo, Boufal, Bednarek or Hoedt, would be more likely if the evidence of our recent transfer windows is anything to go by. If we get Gibson, he'll be our best signing of the last two years.
