This is on Martin … complete ignores the art of defending especially in this league.. he was the same at mk dons and swansea.. t

we shouldn’t be so high up the field when we get turned around it’s basic !!

Hopefully he learns quickly

He won't. Another in a long line of stubborn managers.

Being saying this since day one with Martin. No defensive midfield - Every single game…..

At half time I watched the replay for their first goal, at the point of the ball being thumped up the pitch following our corner, their attacker was level with our last defender, and anyone else was around 10-20 years upfield. Just hideously naive defending.

We press high but once we turn it over just retreat back to our box and it’s so easy for them to cut through us. No defensive solidity in midfield, full backs trapped up the outch, everyone else panicking to try and get back.

Absolutely no excuse for conceding a goal when you have a corner.

We sit 5th in the table with a negative goal difference.

Big improvement needed over the break

Good timing for a break. If we come back after that and still look lost at the back then Martin is suddenly under pressure. He has to fix this.

This is the big worry. By that I'm not panicking after a game like this. But longer term, his tactical approach has to be flexible enough to handle various teams and situations, as we're not going to always have it our own way. How we adapt and react to that, wihin his framework, will be key. We were found out today, and repeated the same errors for a lot of the game, while also failing to impose any of the good things Martin is trying to put into place.

We all watched what happened under Ralph, where all the good things were unpicked when other teams adjusted to his approach and beat it. Our current coaches will have to learn how to prevent the recurring errors.

Fuck knows why our fans immediately start singing his name.  Do the6 just enjoy a day out and a sing song?

There’s a helluva lot to criticize today but the fans who got up at 3 in the morning to get to Sunderland to watch us get battered aren’t part of it. Fucking good on them to keep singing. Best effort from Saints all day.

It is that a complete no mark player gets serenaded because his name ends in O.
