He had a loan option last season with VfL Wolfsburg at £5.6m. I'd guess we paid something in that ballpark.

Ties in with the transfermarkt €6m value.

I am a bit bemused why fans are being enthusiastic about this signing based solely on the fact it came out of nowhere?

I'd like to know why Brentford are prepared to let him go and I'd like to know if there was a fee involved and then I'd like to see him play before I call this a "very good signing"..........to quote Forrester.

What sort of signing would you call it then? The reason Brentford were prepared to let him go is the same reason that man city were prepared to let THB go or West ham were prepared to let Downes go - because they are established Premier league teams and are thus much better than us and have established Premier league players in most positions.

Genuinely at a bit of a loss as to why someone would consider this a poor signing.

A. Cos they're miserable bastard

B. Haven't bothered to see what the bloke is about

C. Cos they forget where we are

D. Cos they're a miserable bastard

To be fair it’s just a couple of oddball on the fringe of society types.

Seems like a sensible bit of business. Not the most exciting signing we’ll ever make but it feels like a small upgrade in a problem position for us. Very much under the radar too. Welcome aboard Mads.

I'd call it a big upgrade myself but it's all about opinions. We'll see I guess but I'm sure this guy will become a fan's favourite in short time.

He only had one year left, plus had a loan option last season with VfL Wolfsburg at £5.6m. I'd guess we paid something in that ballpark.

At that level, if accurate, then I’d hope and expect him to be pretty outstanding in the Championship.

Plus it's a right back. Even someone vaguely competent who can attack a bit is going to be better than Sugawara and Bree and it's not like it's the most important position on the pitch. This guy has quite a bit of Prem experience and championship experience!

If you think he's better than KWP, you are definitely going to be disappointed

He'll be a better and more solid defender than KWP without a doubt. Less flair going forward but sometimes it's handy to have a defender who actually defends.

Yep. He just seems a really good player for this level, then a decent squad player for our 1 season in the PL, then decent again when we're back here, etc.

Pace, height, versatility, experience, quality, not Sugawara, etc. Pretty much bingo imo.

So does this signing mean we can finally ditch the awful 3 CB formation and play a regular back 4? Thank fook for that.

Think that’ll stay until we sort out the attacking mid signings tbh

Exactly what we need on that basis.

Yep exactly what we need. Good, solid, experienced pro. Not a flashy signing but just what we need, not another YHGTI, one who can do a job now and for a few years

I remember when Brentford were promoted to the Premier league I knew little about their players but this guy always stood out as an uncompromising, tenacious full back who didn't let much get past him.

Are you high ffs? Kwp was one of our best players consistently for the last 2 or 3 seasons and this reject is an upgrade?

Reject? Some of our fans are clinically retarded.

Last time we were in the Championship KWP got 2 goals and 4 assists.

The same season, Roerslev got 1 goal and 2 assists, or half the return, but in half the games and in the Prem. I'm willing to predict now he will get more goals AND assists than KWP did in the championship.

So they upgraded him last season and moved up to a top half Prem team - that still shows he's good enough for a side staying up in the Prem at least, which is what we are aiming to be. Get up, stay up, stay stable. Those three steps would be reasonable to aim for in roughly 4 years I'd say.

Great signing for Goztepe! 😉

Should walk straight into our team as a starter - Prem quality albeit not a big name. Have to remember who he’s got next to him in defence though - that’s going to knock 20% off his game. Overall happy with this signing.

You've got to remember that he thought Tadic wasn't fit to wear the Saints shirt.

Absolute tosh. Awful defender and offered nothing in the way of assists of any note. He did get us up the field though before he would go sideways and backwards

I'll call it when I've seen him play a dozen times. My point is just because Fabrizio never tweeted about this move beforehand is a bit of an absurd reason to get over enthusiastic. He looks a solid enough signing and as others have pointed out we need a reliable wing back and Sugawara has not been a success. Plus the Brentford fans seem to appreciate him which is positive news. But the cynic in me wonders why Wolfsburg declined to take up their option so I'll curb my enthusiasm for now. I've seen too many Jelle van Dammes in my lifetime to get too carried away.

Called a retard and an oddball on the fringe of society because I don't like that we've signed a Brentford reject on a four year deal

It's just my opinion, I'll gladly eat it if he's any good

No, I think that’s more about the front players - having quick wide players further up the pitch.

I don't like that we've signed a Brentford third stringer on a four year deal

All of our signings this summer have been four year deals, I think it's a standard length of contract these days. When a player gets down to two years remaining you either have to get them to sign a new deal or look to sell them as they start to move into free contract territory. Four year deals give you two seasons before you have to worry about any of that stuff.

He might well be. You could well be right - the Brentford fans seemed to like him.

Dont know why people are surprised about Suguwara leaving.

He's obviously the player who doesnt think he'll make the World Cup playing for a Championship Club, (which is true as he'll struggle to make the team.)

Welcome Mads

You accept he is well thought of a team significantly higher and better performing than us.

But your main concern is that another team at a much higher level loaned him and didn't buy him.

Sounds like an excellent signing for one of worst ever premier league sides trying to rebuild.

Of course we will have more of an opinion of him when he's actually played for us but is it not normal to give initial reactions on a thread about a player signing? I haven't seen anyone liking this player solely because Romano didn't tweet about him other than the fact it's a pleasant surprise to sign a player who no one knew about beforehand. Wolfsburg are miles better than us in a superior league.

Is he alright at defending?

Can he beat the first man at crossing the ball?

Can he take a competent throw-in, and not aim at a team-mates throat?

If yes to any of the above, he is better than Sugawara and is fine with m,e

Don’t forget the not playing basketball in his own penalty box. That’s another tick in favour of replacing Sugawara.

I can understand his concern, but I think a bigger problem making the world cup squad is him being crap.

Not one Brentford fan on their forum had a bad word to say about him, that will do for me. Good luck and welcome Mads.

Lots of nice words on their forum as was the case with Charlie Taylor, but when I read "he took a lot of stick, a lot undeserved", "got pelters for playing it safe" and  "championship is his level", maybe there is some devil in the detail?

We don't want championship level players, we want players that can win the league and play at that PL level.

However, on the flip side, when I read "did a great job of marking a winger from the top 6 out of the game" that sounds pretty promising.

I'm nervous because I dont know his game and the last few fullbacks have not been inspiring signings. I'm sure I'll get over it once I've seen him in the flesh.

Bree and Sugawara are not up to it. So if he isn't better than them a change is required in his our scouting.

Welcome Mads

To raise his profile Sugawara needs to sign for one of those gigantic Champions League level mega clubs like FC Krasnodar.

Nah, it clearly isn't, there are lots of Japan players in the Eredivisie and plenty in the championship from last year - Leeds, Blackburn etc. It'll be Fernandes. Sugawara hasn't even made the Japan squad recently, they have plenty of options.

We'll either take a significant loss, he'll be loaned, or we'll be stuck with him.

Love a surprise signing. It sounds like his best attribute is 1v1 defending and that he is suited to the high energy game we want to play. Perhaps a better James Bree? Certainly has more PL experience and has had runs in their side playing against the best teams in country and conceding less than a goal a game.

The key question for me is how does that translate into our team. We should be the dominant side, rather than the ones doing lots of defending. Good 1v1 ability should suit Still’s high line. Does he have that attacking output required when playing a level down? We will soon find out! 26 years old, so best years to come?
