The players are absolutely shot to pieces, even the new ones. It isn't as simple as bringing in a football maestro. No matter how genius their tactics are, the players aren't in a place to implement them. Panic sets in as soon as the opposition put together a decent attack. Neither is a sergeant major, old school 4 4 2 type going to solve the problem either. It would bring some resilience, but modern tems easily find a way round traditional tactics. You could reincarnated Cloughie and even he would struggle. Someone like Southgate (I wish) would put a decent rebuilding plan in place. He would have the gravitas to keep players and fans from wobbling. Robins or Carsley would fit, maybe Viera, but whoever gets it they have one hell of a job. Southgate would be appalling. Fortunately he's got no interest in management anymore. 7

Are you telling me the likes of Jack Stephens and Harwood-Bellis wouldn’t sit up and take notice when he tries showing them a thing or two? By all accounts he was a popular figure at Villa as assistant under Smith.

Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted yesterday at 16:35 Posted yesterday at 16:35 I wouldn't be too upset if Carrick came to Saints. He'd definitely sort the midfield and he's worked with both Archer and Azaz, who both showed good form under his management. With us not currently having a manager, I wonder whose idea it was to sign Romeu? This must have been decided before WS departed? Maybe there's someone already lined up who said they wanted him onboard? Ralph watched us a couple of weeks ago. We're the board sounding him out? Could he have influenced this move? 1

Suggestions that Romeu was seen at Staplewood before the pre-season training camp in Spain where he was pictured with the squad. Maybe he would have joined if Aribo and Edozie were sold but management felt the squad would have been too big. Now they feel it is worth it to try to raise standards in the squad and morale amongst the fans. Edited yesterday at 16:50 by Patches O Houlihan 3

Would the feeling be the same if for example we lured Mousinho here ? I’m not advocating that we do, and wouldn’t be keen on it, but can’t help feel the reaction to O’Neil is also due to him being considered crap.

Regarding Viera - On Solent just now the chap from TSP pointed out that Spors hired Viera for Genoa, and that he also worked alongside Eckert there, so there are some strong connections already in place. Factor in that he is available, has a lot of experience of English football (including some as a manager) and that they may want a 'name' to bring some authority, and that could have some legs. Yep, did alright last season (finished 13th in Serie A), then sacked 2 days ago with the club bottom and without a win from first nine games of this season (six defeats, three draws). 1
